I received a JURY DUTY letter.....

I have been called 4 times. I've been chosen and rejected once. I had personal experience with car repossesion. I repo'd my own car once and then I was chosen for the panel once on a domestic dispute.

Tell the judge that when you are called and you will never get on a jury. BTW it's about time someone else got it. All four of us here have been called in the last year. There is a GOD!

For everyone else we live in the same county.

I got called for Jury Duty once and was let go as I was a legal assistant. The plaintiff's counsel was all ready to keep me, but the defendant's counsel felt otherwise. I wonder why.

I would love a chance to sit on a Jury. DH is a police officer so I think a criminal trial is pretty much out for me. Though one never knows.
I DO NOT believe In doing Jury Duty!!!! I have seen too many GUILTY People Get OFF because of People wanting to GO HOME!!!
Poohbear, Isn't that what you're doing, but just in a different way?
I do NOT want the responsiblilty of someone's life In MY hands! Or anyone else's for that matter! After all, we are ONLY HUMAN!!!
Yeah and that makes you a peer, as in a jury of your peers.

I would go with an open mind. I truly believe Jury Duty is a good thing.

I have served one month on the Grand Jury about 20 years ago, was called as a prospective juror (did not have a jury trial so dismissed) aboutt 10 years ago and have to call the county in about 2 weeks to see if I need to serve again. I think it is great we have the right to serve, and therefore the duty.

I've been called too and I'll be glad to serve if they want me to but I am kind of clueless about what to do about picking up my son from school. We're new in the area and the people I know work all day so I'm not quite sure how to handle that yet. But I'll figure it out somehow because it's my first time to serve and I'm rather intrigued.

I've been called and have served one time while DH was an officer of the law. Granted, he is SS, not a regular police officer, but I told them about it and they still called me. Here in D.C. they will take what they can get. :teeth:

I got jury duty once, but never got on a case. Sometimes I think they only pick "challenged" folks for that! They don't want you to know much about anything!

I was called to jury duty, spent the day waiting around and was picked to sit on the jury. I had a sick 15 month old at home with my DH at the time and wanted to get out of it. The judge wouldn't excuse me.

I was 2 days into this drug trial that took place in my city and these thugs were trying to make this other guy take the fall for them...we as a jury could see right thru these guys. It was interesting.

That night my DS had a febrile seizure and I called to tell them I'd be out the next day. WHen I returned, they said they had deliberated and found the thugs guilty and they were going to make me the foreperson? Is that the right name?

I enjoyed the whole experience and I was glad to see that justice was definitely served and proud to be a part of it.

I'd do it again if they asked.

I always thought I would love having jury duty. Unfortunately, when I was called I got on the jury from hell.

It was obvious the guy was guilty from the evidence presented. In fact, the jury all agreed that he was guilty. BUT, they didn't agree that the laws that he broke were sensible, so half of them wanted to let him off! Even though that is not what we were supposed to decide about. Sigh. We weren't there to consider whether or not to change the law, but to decide if he was guilty as charged.

We were deadlocked and spent 2 days stating our reasoning. Some of the jury smoked and couldn't have their cigarettes. To say that they were crabby is an understatement. We also had a pregnant woman on the jury. She kept feeling shaky. The whole thing made my head hurt.

It was a horrible experience. I was so amazed that seemingly educated people could have such poor reasoning skills. My advice is to bring an industrial-sized bottle of aspirin and some snacks with you. They may decide not to let you go home until you come to an agreement.

Having said all of that, I would do it again. I'd pray that they didn't want me, but I would answer the questions honestly. Oh, and I now know that if I am ever in trouble, I don't want a jury trial. Even if I am obviously innocent.

There was a case in Massachusetts several years ago about skipping jury duty. Seems a businessman got called and he did not show up. He did it twice and an arrest warrent was issued. The police picked him up at work and after being booked was brought before the judge. The judge asked him if he wanted a trial before just a judge or if he wanted a jury of people who did show up. The man plead guilty right then.

My biggest complaint about jury duty is the sitting and the waiting. The last time, it was in the summer and the air-conditioning had broken. The humidity and heat were terrible, but we were not allowed to leave the room (except for rest room breaks) in case they would call another panel in. It was brutal.
I did serve on one criminal case involving drugs, burglarly, robbery, impersonating police and attempted murder. It was actually pretty interesting and luckily I had a really nice group of fellow jurors. We convicted him and afterwards were told by the judge our defendant had 3 other murder charges against him and he was only 18!

but I am STILL not thrilled about doing Jury Duty! Seeing its here in MIAMI! I can just imagine WHAT kind of case this is going to be, plus I have NEVER had to serve in the past, so I am pretty sure when I call on Feb. 25 they will tell me to come in the next day and WAIT WAIT WAIT!! Also, I am NOT getting Paid for this, as I was just made Full Time and have a WHOLE year to Wait till I get the benefit of being Paid while ON jury Duty! Plus I DON'T drive, and that means DH will have to DROP me OFF and Pick me up! I hate going to Court, as I practically LIVED there when I was married to my X-DH!

Ick, I hate jury duty, it might be my "responsibility" but that doesn't mean I have to be thrilled about doing it. I got that horrible letter in the mail the week after my 18th birthday. Sat in a very crowded, very uncomfortable room all day long, bored out of my mind and when I finally got called for a case I was rejected because I worked in the same type of enviroment where the crime occurred. Back to the boring room for a few more hours and they finally let us all go home. If ya'll like it and look forward to it, more power to you, but for myself, I hated it and hope I never have to do it again.
