I Really Want a convertible!

I know you stated that you do not want a Sebring, just going to chime in that we had a Sebring convertible from 2001-2004. It was a 2001. My husband and I both loved it. It's got a lot of get up and go and got pretty good gas mileage. It was very comfortable to ride/drive and had plenty of room in the back seat. It was not windy at all with the top down. I really miss it on pretty days!!!!

fyi - i bought a 2004 vw nbc and have had NOTHING but problems with the roof. they started about a year after i bought it and now i am trying to sell it back to the dealer (for a loss) because it appears to be unfixable.

i really love my nbc, but i have to say, i am wary of buying another one (even a later year) because of all the problems i have had with this one.

one of my friends has a audi convertible (the 4 seater) and it is a beautiful and very well made car. every time i ride in it, i wish i had one.

if i had the money, that is the convertible i would buy, for sure.

another thing to be ware of in the beetle convertivble - the back seat is basically useless for humans (i put luggage back there all the time though since the trunk is so small). if you or your dh are on the tall side (i am 5'10" and have to have the drivers seat almost all the way back) there will be NO leg room for passengers in the back seat. with the front seats all the way back they are almost flush against the back seat. also, with the windstop in no one can sit in the back.

You want to drive around topless  Won't that be a little chilly in the great white north :teeth:

I have the Saab 9-3 Convertible. I love it, but the prices have gotten to the point that I doubt I will replace it with a convertible.

When I bought I test drove EVERYTHING out there at the time (Audi wasn't out with one then)

I found the Sebring TOO noisy. Plus at that time it had a plastic back window. Over time those turn yellow on you. I liked the Volvo, but they could not come close to the deal Saab was offering me.

18 months after I bought my first Saab, I was rear ended. I was stopped, the van that hit me was going about 60 MPH. I walked away without a SCRATCH from a car that looked like the driver should have been in the ICU! (They sent an ambulance based on the way my car looked!) I went right back out and bought the SAME car.

I really like the looks of that new Volvo C70.

Of course I'd go with an Audi in a heartbeat too.

We talked about going the convertible route - until I priced out insurance rates with teenage drivers in the household. Yikes!

Guess ours will have to wait until we get the kids out on their own!

If we're dreaming, what about a BMW 6-series? My daughter's doctor has one. That's a beautiful car. But for $75k, there's a whole lot more I could do with that money besides gettin' a head & arms sunburn and bugs in my teeth...

I have to warn you Dawn ... once you go topless it's hard to go back to a regular car. We have a 2002 Saab 9-3 Convertible. I owned a 1995 Toyota Celia for almost 10 years but sold it to buy the Saab. I like the Saab a lot but the back window annoys me. It is totally useless and I end up using the side mirrors more than the rear-view mirror. I assumed the lease for this car and then paid the buy-out price when the lease was up. Saab also has a nice Certified Pre-owned program that extends the warrenty to 6 years and 100,000 miles.

ETA: CarolA: great taste in cars ;). Saabs will give their lives for you. That's one of the reasons I sold my Toyota and bought the Saab. We also have a 2001 9-5 Wagon but it's a lemon and I will be getting rid of it soon. I may have to sell my beautiful 9-3 to pay for a replacement for the wagon .

I bought a Sebring 1 year ago, and love it (a used 2002 limited). Kids (DS7, DD4) love it, too. The wind in the back they like at anything less than highway speeds. At highway speeds, we roll up the windows. Looks kinda funny with windows up and top down, but it works.

That's my CAR< but mine is Silver. I have never had any trouble with it and plan to drive it until it falls apart. (I don't put a ton of miles on it so hopefully....) The blind spot issue is just one I deal with. (I told Hertz recently that if they gave me a Mustang again, I would quit renting from them. The hard top has a MUCH bigger blind spot then my Saab and I thought that was IMPOSSIBLE LOL! That said my coworkers Toyota convertible has a simular issue, I think it's just a risk of the convertible)

The other thing is that these cars have SMALL trunks... that top has to go somewhere! The mustang convertible trunk is really tiny. My trunk is so so!

re: blind spots

my nbc has a pretty good sized back window (for a convertible), but i definitely had to get used to using my mirrors in a way that i was not used to with my previous (non-convertible car). it took me a while to find the perfect position for my mirrors. the first week or so i almost got in a few accidents.

Two words, Jeep Wrangler. Seats 4 and fun to drive!

Nope, not my style. I like the leather seats with the seat heaters, 6 cd changer, etc. etc.

The 2007 Jeep Wrangler will have an optional 6 disc cd changer with mp3 capability, so you could plug in your mp3 player into it. No leather seats, but it will have power windows/locks and other stuff never seen before in a factory Wrangler. When girls drive Jeeps, it raises their cuteness level :thumbsup2

It definately is beautiful but I think that the "3" series is more in line with my budget. Maybe I will go out a buy a lotto ticket. ;)
