I really need help with OKW ...anyone PLEASE.

We are about to leave for a week stay at OKW in a one bedroom, I have no idea of what area to request or any thing, I have heard rumors of pool rehab that I would love to avoid. So where can I find a map of OKW and isn't there a search of some type that I can do of this board to pull up all the OKW ones???I appreciate any assistance so much, I am sure I will be back with more questions as soon as I see a map and understand this resort a lil better. Thanks again

regarding location.

Request building cluster 23 -26 upper floor.

Why buildings 23-26? - walking distance to Hospitality House and the last bus stop out when leaving, however that cluster is the first bus stop back (very convenient). Also walking distance to main pool, Olivia's, and the store.

Why upper floor? - more quiet, and I prefer the view from upper floors, of course strollers, heavy luggage, lots of groceries, etc may alter that perceived value for you.

Finally, bus traffic patterns may have changed given the newer buildings.

Anyway, that's my suggestions. We are going the first week of June and we have requested exactly the above (as well as non-smoking).

Thanks Candance.....I have been searching for that maps for hours...really. Oh don't I wish I owned a DVC book but I rented my points from a fellow DISer. KellyDVC, Thanks I have printed the map and can see where I am being refered to. Sounds like a perfect location...except my DH smokes, but not in front of our child so he HAS to go to the balcony...so would/should I book a smoking room?? Thanks, Suzy

I think I remember seeing on Deb WIlls site under Rehabs the information about the OKW pools. It's www.wdwig.com If you're going next week, I think the only pool affected is the South Point pool (by #56), closing 5/28. I'm not sure though.

Yes, if your hubby smokes you should request a smoking unit.
Building 19, 25, & 41 (there a a couple more) are smoking buildings.

for the people that are above or next to you in a non-smoking building?? I would reccomend a smoking unit like Gail suggested.

Not to turn this into another smoking/no smoking debate, but I too would suggest a smoking unit also. The balconies are enclosed with a ceiling, the odor still lingers, plus the neighbors may not be to happy!

Webmaster Doc...all I can say is WOW...That must have been hard to do it took me more than a few minutes to understand it, I now think I understand...very impressive. Thanks for the advice about the smoking/non-smoking room, I want to be considerate while obeying rules, however if DH is permited to smoke on the balcony of any building I don't feel I should give up any thing or stay in a room that smells of smoke when the rest of my family are non-smokers......Am I being fair, I belive so as long as I am obeying the rules set forth by WDW and OKW. So if I have misunderstood please correct me. Thanks again for all the great advice.

I would totally concur with you on this IF the smoking units smelled like smoke, which they do not. We have had rabid anti/non smokers with us and they were more than a little impressed about how non smokey the unit was.
I don't wish to start a debate here, but, why do you think it ok to have a smoker in a non smoking unit infringing on the rest of the building by having a smoker smoking on the balcony? Why should anyone else "give up anything" to accomodate your husband? I could see this happening IF all the smoking accomodations were already in use, BUT, this is not the case, as we know it now. You would be following the rules, for sure, but, let's think about consideration for others, which IMHO, trump rules anyday. IE: there is quiet time from(using an example of time here) 9pm on to about 8am, does that mean if you happen to be under a family with kids that it is ok to have to listen to them scream and jump on and off the furniture until that time? NO, it is not ok to disturb someone else's "quiet enjoyment" of their vacation because it is within the rules. There are many non smokers out there that are severly bothered by the smell of smoke and while I am sure they would understand the situation if there was no other way(and hopefully some accomodation could be reached for both sides), I am sure they would be less than understanding if you took a non smoking room to accomodate your husband so you would not "give up anything".

Gail , very well said and rather informative, knowing that the smoking rooms do not smell of smoke I will try to book there, unfortunately I can't stand the smell of smoke either....I don't have a closet smoker...I have a deck and on vacation a balcony smoker Thanks for your very enlightening post...

Thanks for being so considerate. Actually, I am a smoker and I also detest the smell of smoke. Go figure!!!! I can honestly tell you that I have only hit one unit that smelled of smoke(mildly) and that was eliminated by opening the patio door for awhile. Ask for building 25 or 41, both are great buildings, also, 19 is good, near the pool, as is 41.
