I really hate some people...Stupid Customer rant!

Earlier this season we had a customer in our cottages here, there was 2 adults and a baby. When they left and the cleaning staff went in, they found DIRTY DIAPERS in the FREEZER of the fridge....Ewwwww.....Gross!


Well, the cleaning staff had to unplug the fridge, sanitize it completely, and as a precaution, re-washed all the dishes in the cupboards and cleaned the kitchen more than usual. Can you say time consuming?

We have a reputation as having the cleanest vacation cottages around and we have the highest star rating of any establishment in our town. Well the cleaning staff (real good staff of NEAT FREAKS) felt that the cottage needed a total redo...I agreed and on one of the busiest days of the year, that gave them another 1 1/2 hours. They were exhausted but could not even imagine what else might have been done in that cottage after finding dirty diapers in the freezer.

Well, long story short, I charged the clients $50 for the excessive cleaning fee. I could have charged more but I felt weird doing it at all but the diapers were more than I could handle.


Fast forward to today, he calls me to complain about the $50 charge. I tell him what we found and he asked who told me there were dirty diapers. I said the cleaning staff. He then asked me if I saw the diapers. (I think he was going to say they were lying if I said I had not seen them) I told him I saw them with my own eyes.

He then says that they do this when on vacation to minimize the SMELL... I told him this was unacceptable. He said he sees that he forgot to throw them out and agrees he should pay but says $50 is too much and thinks we should split the difference and he should only pay $25. I told him TOO BAD!!!

WOW, thought I had seen everything but I can still be amazed by SOME PEOPLE!!!

I just put him on my "Can't return unless hell freezes over " list...

When DD was in diapers I did a novel thing and threw them away in the outside trash. Never would imagine doing the freezer thing. GROSS!

I would have charged whatever the amount was that you ended up having to pay your cleaning staff for the extra time they spent in there. 50.00 was cheap. Now I'm getting grossed out thinking about how many places they did this in but remembered to throw them out!

Who the heck puts dirty diapers in a freezer to minimize the odor?

BTW, I just want to add that we rent houses/cottages when we go on vacation and cleanliness is really important to me. If I find that the cleaning crew hasn't done a thorough job, we don't rent the same place again and will NOT recommend it.

This summer we stayed in a beautiful home overlooking the ocean on the Gulf Coast. The cleaning lady did a horrible job. There were several dead roaches under the kids' beds, it was obvious that a broom nor vacuum had cleaned that area for a while. The master bathroom was not cleaned to my standards or at all, pee stains on the toilet seat= GROSS! Found food under the sectional. Beautiful house, but horrible cleaning lady. We left the house cleaner than when we arrived. I didn't give the owner any feedback until we got our deposit returned.

So, you are doing a good thing by being so meticulous and having a good cleaning crew to support it! I still can't get over the diaper in the freezer thing!

YUCK YUCK YUCK YUCK DISGUSTING and GROSS!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even imagine!! Blech! Hmmmm I might have to think twice about using the freezers and refridgerators while on vacation now.

You totally did the right thing. I would have charged more to cover overtime and extra work by the housekeeping staff.

Yep, I think a $50 fee for your crew spending an additional couple hours disinfecting their unit - is not enough of a fee though.

My entire family thinks I'm nuts for throwing every dish in the dishwasher and wiping down the kitchen and bathrooms with bleach when we check into the villas. Unfortunately, people like this diaper man make that necessary.

I think you did the right thing and your cottages sound like a great place to stay.

I applaud you and your cleaning crew for caring enough to do a through cleaning....and I am thinking about the times I rented a shore home........

Heck yea you did the right thing and this is coming from someone who has 30+ years in the hospitality industry. I think you were completely generous in only charging $50.00 and they would definitely be PNG'd at my place.

If they store diapers in the freezer, perhaps they were using the toilet to stash the hot dogs... did you check?

Then they call back to dispute the charge? Have these people not one shred of dignity?

I've heard of putting water bottles in the freezer, but never dirty diapers. Did it ever occur to them to use that new fangled invention called a trash barrel???

Yes, you did the right thing. You would've done the right thing if you charged 3 times that amount! That diaper incident caused a lot of super cleaning. And he knew he was in the wrong when he admitted he forgot to throw them away.

Weird he'd say he does it when on vacation. He doesn't do it at home. It's just other people he doesn't think or care about. That is soooo low.

I think the worse part is he said he would take them to the trash every couple of days...YUCK!!!


He then tells me our place was not nice and that he had to rewash all the towels in the unit as they smelled awful...I told him if he had a complaint it was when it happened that he needed to say something, not now...He said sine he had to do that, that the charge should even out...NOT...

I told him that Dirty Diapers in the freezer were much much worse and that I was not going to budge on the cost...

He seemed surprised that I knew everything about his week here off the top of my head (dates, names, number of people etc...) I wanted to say that people that disgusting have a way of staying in your thoughts....
