Yes, this topic may shock you, but I had to say that tonight, I actually
did what I despise:

I intentionally quit a game of Haunted Mansion. Perhaps after I share my
story, you wouldn't blame me! I don't like to miss out on credits, so you
KNOW this story will be good!

I was in a 1 on 1 game with a player. At the beginning of the game, he
"cleaned" me, and we continued on a normal game until.....he announces,
"I've got enough ghosts. I'm stopping." I figured out that he thought he
had 20 ghosts for the Tron room quest.

I warned him that if he quit the game, the quest won't count. I also told
him that the ghost he cleaned off me wouldn't count and he MUST catch
more ghosts to make it count. The first round ended and we went into
the second round.

He still refused to catch ghosts, and for those who think, "What's
wrong with moving around without catching ghosts?" Well, it really is
not fair for the opposite player because if you don't catch ghosts, the
other team will run out of their own ghosts to catch.

I told him that he wasn't being fair to me, and that if he did not start to
catch some, I would quit the game. I gave him chance after chance, even
after he said, "No!"

After all that fair warning, I quit the game....with 16 seconds left to go.

Now you KNOW I can't stand players that quit. But I think that I'm pretty
much justified in my reason.

:rotfl2: :thumbsup2 I applaud that. I abhor people exiting HM as much as the next person, but you had a very valid point, and I think it's hilarious that you did that. Besides, even if you've caught enough ghosts to complete the quest task, what fun is it to just sit there anyway? Plus, you won't get anymore credits if you just sit there. I don't get that person's logic (at least, not entirely).

I had a girl do the exact same thing to me just a few days ago! Is this a new trend? I didn't understand the logic and tried to explain that stopping at just 20 ghosts wasn't going to end the game any faster and she would lose out on gaining more credits. She refused to catch more ghosts and chatted so much I could no longer see the screen! I didn't quit the game, as I still had a few ghosts left before the time ran out, but next time I will most definitely consider it! And I thought the people who told me I "had" to let them win were annoying! Arg!

Would it be wrong of me to say that I am glad rudeness is not limited to Pirates??? :rotfl2:

Breath in.... breath out.... breath in.... breath out...

SOme people just dont get it

I don't blame you. :)

No common sense in these kids these days (but not all kids thankfully).

I think that's why I stopped playing Mansion and Pirates and stick to Fireworks and Jungle Cruise these days. Opponents can quit all they want and they can't say anything to offend you. :rolleyes1

i agree with quitting HM in your situation. it's not really fair.
There were a few times during the old pirates game that people would just sit there, while they told the others to do all the work and then collect at the end. i quit a couple of those games. annoying!

I actually quit a fireworks game because there was a blatant cheater on (i think he/she scored something like 57,000 at the end of the first round). i didn't want to mess with that.

Quitting a fireworks game is not the same as quitting Pirates or Haunted Mansion ... When you quit fireworks, it doesnt affect other ppl game ...

But I would have done the same things as BriarLori, why should the opponent player win without catching ghosts when he reached the 20 ghosts ... That's a normal act ...

Sometimes you have to do it. I've never quit myself, but I can see it happening in a case like that (although it might have been more fun to hope you wound up in the same lobby, and have him see that he didn't make the number).

I think this is the reason I prefer to play mansion with friends only. ;) Sorry you had to experience this Briar, but you had good reason. :goodvibes

Yes, it would have been amusing to finish the game, hope we're in the same
lobby, and then go, "See? I told you from experience that it would not
work for you!"

People quit on me, all the time. Some quit because they don't know how to
play. "How do you play?" is not something you want to read when the game
starts. I never asked anyone, "Why did you start a game if you don't know
how to play?" yet.

Others quit if they aren't winning after the first round. I've seen lots of
second rounds start where suddenly I'm alone. But when a player blatantly
tells you that he won't catch any more ghosts because he/she has enough
for a quest, that was my breaking point. I was winning the game, anyway,
but playing "avoid the green ghosts" isn't much fun. :)

I think you handled it with grace and tact. It is unfortunate it came to that, however sometimes these folks need a good lesson thrown their way. That'll teach em.

Yes, but you know that when he tells the story, all he will remember is
how "mean BriarLori" quit the game to ruin his quest! ;)

oh before i read all of it i thought he was going to Say something like that and the other person would Keep saying No while he catches ghosts so you wont get any .. HEHE :lmao: :rotfl2:

Players in fireworks game can be as boring as ppl playing pirates and haunted mansion ... I am so mad each time playing fireworks and being first just bc ppl stop playing at 240K (and I am playing well those days i can really barely reach above 240K so that makes me even more mad) ... At least there is still Yeti Vision Level 3 and no ppl to bother you ^^

I have noticed more and more of these kinds of players...you know, the kind that do everything in their power to frustrate, upset, annoy, or "hurt" others in the game. It's a main reason why I don't really play vmk anymore. I haven't actually "played" the game in a good month or so. I've been on once and while for about 5 minutes, but then I find myself logging out. This game is going downhill and quite frankly, my bike doesn't have brakes so I'll try not to go riding down so fast with it. lol.

I think what you did was a smart move. You gave him fair warning, and even tried to help him advance in the quest. He was doing no good for himself by disregarding your advice and doing no good for you as he essentially kept ghosts from you. I wouldn't want to play in a game like that either...why would I want to?

I think some people are under the assumption that if they get more than the required amount for a quest, That they wont move on. They believe they have to hit the number exactly. :confused3

I believe that clueless player was playing under that (false) assumption,
and he was adamant that he couldn't catch more ghosts or he'd fail the
task. :)

I just didn't want to deal with the aggravation.
Typically I'm much more patient with players who TRY to catch the ghosts
but can't seem to get the hang of it. ;)

LOL...I give you credit, I would have bailed 16 seconds into the round. :teeth:
