We could say poot but not fart when I was growing up.

A friend of mine was raised by her father. He used to tell them things like:

"Fluffernutter is a really bad curse word. It's actually THE worst curse word you can say. If I ever hear you or your brother say fluffernutter, I will beat you like there is no tomorrow. I don't ever want to hear you cursing, especially saying fluffernutter!"

So, she and her brother would run around behind their father's back saying "fluffernutter" and thinking they were cursing and getting away with it.
