I-Pod's

My son has saved up his hard earned money to buy himself a mini I-Pod. We thought about buying it in florida but I can't find any retailers web sites to show me a price guide. They are currently £180 here (equates to about $310)

Can anyone help me find some electrical outlets to see if this will be any cheaper to buy in the US.

Hi,
Best Buy stores stock Ipods I have put a link to their site below. According to the store locator they have a place at the Florida Mall aswell as other sites around Orlando. You might need to be careful that you don't exceed your customs allowance or you may have to pay duty which will reduce your savings. Also you would need to check that that you could obtain the adaptor for the charger so you can use it in a UK electrical socket.

They are $250 excluding tax in America. There is an official Apple shop around Orlandon somewhere i think which might be a good place to get it from.

The price seems to be pretty much fixed by Apple. A mini ipod will be cheaper than buying it in the UK though - about $250

On our last trip DS bought a 'proper' ipod from the Apple store in the Mall of Millenia - a lot cheaper than in the UK.

You may be able to save a few$$$ by shopping around when you get to Florida- but it won't be a lot.

be very careful about the connectors you need...
make sure you have the right kind of computer, connection, electricity etc.

if you have a computer with a firewire or USB 2, i believe you'll be able to re-charge the Ipod right on your computer...
but be careful to make sure that the version of ipod you're buying comes with all the accessories you'll need.....
the different sized ipods (different size in terms of memory) come with different accessories....

i bought my kids the midsized ipod because it came with all the accessories they needed....the smaller, cheaper one didn't, so i would have had to pay for them seperately....the midsize was the better buy even though it was more expensive....

and yes, apple fixes the prices....they prices should be basically the same regardless of where you buy it...

i bought my kids ipods at the apple store....(at the time they were very hard to come by....even the apple store had only a few in stock)....

ipod minis generally come with all the cables you need. you dont need to worry about charging cables as the mini ipods can be charged via the USB cable that plugs into your pc.

theres a wide variety of places to buy from there. wal-mart, best buy, circuit city, all of these three are right next to the florida mall and like a previous poster mentions an official apple store.

one piece of advice, mini ipods are still MEGA popular so find their addresses and numbers before you go, and ring them once you're there to check they have stock. nothings worse than driving round to find no one has one for sale.

and yea make sure before you go that you have the necessary ports on your pc.

Another point - make sure you know where Circuit City etc are located. We trawled round and round Florida Mall and the surrounding area trying to find Circuit City - which we did in the end. DS bought the 20 GB iPod from there back in April. Very disappointed whe we got home to find we needed an extra connector so he could connect it up to the USB port on our PC. Had to wait almost a week to get delivery of the extra cable from Amazon - as no local shop seemed to have one available.

He does LOVE it though!

We planned on some time at the Florida Mall so maybe I'll leave DW and DD in the mall and take DS to look at the I-Pod's..

be sure to take your running shoes then as bestbuy/wal-mart/circuit city are accross the road from the FL mall. and it can be a busy road hehe.

seriously though just keep your wits about you and the roads easy enough to cross. either that or get the cab to drop you direct at the store and then walk accross to the mall.
