I need vacuum cleaner advice

I have a Kirby. I know not the cheapest, but we have had ours for 6 years and works great. We have all the attachments including shampoo. It works great. I did spend $25 last month getting its first tune since we bought it. The repair man said that it works better than most new vacuums nowadays. It was costly up front, but I know people that spend $100-150 a year on a vacuum or bought 2 Dysons within 6 years. They are spending more than I did on my Kirby.
I agree with a previous poster that vacuum are a personal preference and mine is the Kirby.

We bought a Dyson one suggested for animals. We could not believe how much stuff they get out of the rug. The living room rug feels like a new rug everytime we vacuum.Ours is only about 6 months old.

While I want an animal purple dyson, $500 is out of reach, and dh also feels that once they break, they are hard to get parts for... (which is indicative of posts here!)

So I have a dirt devil, which I like, but my dil bought a Kirby (I think I watched a segment on a news magazine show on Kirby's, I was not impressed!) but when they got that, they gave me their Yellow Eureka - it does have some kind of wind tunnel, hepa filters all over - and while I think it is a good vacuum cleaner - dh LOVES the thing - he exclaims every time how much better this is than any other vacuum we've ever had! :rotfl: I had no idea he even noticed to tell you the truth!

Its a Eureka 12 amps - and I think that "amp" level is what helps with the power of the vacuum

We have a purple dyson (animal) and I've had it 5 years. I love that vacuum and will be very sad when it dies. :)

I've never had it break or stop working, so maybe the newer models aren't built as well as the older ones.

It was expensive when I got it--and it's probably a lot more expensive now--but I've had the same Miele for 10+ years. It works great and has never needed a repair.

You should google Good Morning America vacuum cleaner reviews. I think the vacuums in this segment were reviewed by Consumer Reports. There were a couple inexpensive models that were highly rated. I'm in the market myself.

Well, I just went out and bought a Dyson (animal) at Costco. I hope it will be worth it.

I bought a refurbed Kirby G5 off of Ebay a couple of years ago with ALL of the attachments and the shampooer for $150 shipped. Worth EVERY penny. My mother had a Kirby that she bought before I was born (1972) and just replaced it within the last couple of years because she wanted something newer. Still worked fine. They are heavy, but my newer one has an automatic transmission that makes it feel like it's only about 5 lbs. when I'm pushing it. It cleans better than any vacuum I've had and it's well-made enough to the point that it has survived my daughter's learning to vacuum. :rotfl: When DH asked how I liked the new vacuum, I told him it really sucks and it does. :lmao:
