My sister's friends are throwing her a surprise 40th birthday party and have asked me to do a slideshow to play during the party. I have all of the pictures, but I'm trying to find some songs to play. The only one I can think of so far is "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder.

Please give me some song suggestions.

The only song that came to my mind when I saw the title of the thread was "Hell's Bells." That's what was played when DH's best friend arrived at his 40th birthday surprise party.

If you're trying to be nice about it, how about "Forever Young" or "Through the Years?"

I would include the most popular songs the year and day she was born

Yes, I'm trying to be nice. "Forever Young" is a good suggestion.

Can you think of any appropriate songs from the Disco era? She really likes disco music. I was thinking about "Brick House".

How about....

100 Years-Five for Fighting
Good Riddance/Time of Your Life-Green Day
Seasons of Love-Soundtrack from RENT
Now and Forever-Carole King
I'll be There for You-The Rembrandts

I'll keep thinking on it and post more if I think of any...

Chris

The only song that comes to my almost 40 mind is....
Garth Brooks - Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)

If you have pics of her in the summer or the family on vacation, you could always play "School's Out", but *not* the original version, use the one that the A*Teens did with Alice Cooper a few years back.

Forever Young is really good, but I'm thinking you might want to mix up the tempo and feel of the songs, have some upbeat stuff in the middle of the emotional things.

Trying to think of groups...The Police, Phil Collins (both Genesis & the Disney stuff), the Commodores (the concert/live version of "Brick House" is one of my faves), is there any Aerosmith/Boston that would work?

How about some movie/musical soundtracks - Grease, Saturday Night Fever

and "What a wonderful World"/Louis Armstrong
and I love that version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with ukeles & that great late Hawaiian singer, someone else upthread mentioned it...fabulous song I first heard on ER when Mark Greene died.

OH, here's an idea...how about some TV show themes, like Miami Vice or maybe some of the shows that your family would watch together?

agnes!

what about that Elton John song about " Making friends for the world to see" sorry cant think of the title for any pictures of her and her friends.

More Than A Woman by the BeeGees might also be nice.

Did she have any teen idols? David or Shaun Cassidy? Andy Gibbs? Davy Jones?

How about "I'll Be There for You" - the theme from "Friends"?

Who sings this song? It sounds familiar.
Frank Sinatra

Out of the tree of life, I just picked me a plum
You came along and everything started to hum
Still its a real good bet, the best is yet to come

The best is yet to come, and won't that be fine
You think you've seen the sun, but you ain't seen it shine

Wait till the warm-up is underway
Wait till our lips have met
Wait till you see that sunshine day
You ain't seen nothin yet

The best is yet to come, and won't that be fine
The best is yet to come, come the day that your mine

Come the day that your mine
I'm gonna teach you to fly
We've only tasted the wine
We're gonna drain that cup dry

Wait till your charms are right, for the arms to surround
You think you've flown before, but you ain't left the ground

Wait till you're locked in my embrace
Wait till I hold you near
Wait till you see that sunshine place
There ain't nothin' like it here

The best is yet to come, and won't that be fine
The best is yet to come, come the day that your mine

Or you can select "It Was a Very Good Year"

When I was seventeen
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for small town girls
And soft summer nights
Wed hide from the lights
On the village green
When I was seventeen

When I was twenty-one
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for city girls
Who lived up the stair
With all that perfumed hair
And it came undone
When I was twenty-one

When I was thirty-five
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for blue-blooded girls
Of independent means
Wed ride in limousines
Their chauffeurs would drive
When I was thirty-five

But now the days grow short
Im in the autumn of the year
And now I think of my life as vintage wine
from fine old kegs
from the brim to the dregs
And it poured sweet and clear
It was a very good year

It was a mess of good years

Did she travel anywhere? Family vacations? Songs associated with the places she went
