Here's a bit of background - sorry its a bit long:

My mom is 74 and in great health. She and my dad live in a huge old New England Farmhouse they inherited from my grandmother. Its a three story house with a three story barn and a two story section that attaches the house to the barn. It was full of my grandparent's things when my parents sold their house and moved all of their things in! While they did get rid of some stuff, they're doing quite a bit of renovation and my mom doesn't want to get rid of too much until she gets the rooms done and decides what she really wants to keep. Needless to say the house is really full and she doesn't need anymore stuff.

Because I have a lot more vacation time than DH and because he hates theme parks, heat, humidity, lines, crowds, etc. I take the kids to Florida myself and leave him home (trust me, we're both happier this way). Since my dad really doesn't like to travel, my mom tends to be my travel buddy and we've vacationed with the kids together quite a bit over the years.

In August 2007 we went to Florida for 16 days. Because I rented a house, my sister and her husband and their three children were able to come with us. Due to finances I doubt they'll ever be able to come with us again (but that's another story). We went to US/IOA, Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, WDW, Kennedy Space Center, Ripley's, WDW, Wet n' Wild and the beaches on both coasts. We also visited with my mother's uncle in Tampa (this was the last time she saw him alive - he died shortly after that trip and they were very close).

For Christmas I thought I'd make her a scrapbook of that trip. There's lots of great group shots, and most importantly we have some great groups with her uncle in them. The only thing that's really missing is my brother and his family (but that's another story too). I got it all laid out and started it and then my kids made me doubt myself. They've told that its a dumb idea because the trip was three years ago. I think she'll like it because she always is taking photos at all the family events (my grandfather, her father, was a professional photographer). So Grandmas - what do you think? Would you like a scrapbook like this even though the pictures are from a trip that was three years ago?

I'm also getting her and my dad a gift certificate to eat at one of their favorite restaurants and my dad a tool attachment thingy that he wants.

I think it is an awesome idea.

One year my MIL went with her other son and dil and kiddos....and they gave her an album with all the photos in it......The outside of the album was Mickey cloth that she made to fit it.......it is adorable.

Because she already had the album, when she went with us (we gave her the photos too) ...hubby made her a Birthday card with little thumbprints of everything that was important to her.....and she loved it..

Heck, I'm not even a Grandma and I like this idea. I'm always looking for meaningful gifts for my 76yo mother. When you get to their age, how much more "stuff" do you need? I'd much rather have a nice scrapbook than another sweater.

I'm not a Grandparent, but one of my folks most treasured gifts is a scrapbook my sister and I made them (of the grandkids) one year.

Yes - do it!!! Absolutely!! :goodvibes

After my DH passed away, I made scrapbooks for each of my 5 Dsteps - and it took me more than a couple of years ( maybe 3?) to get them all done.. (Each one was personalized with photos of that child and their dad; cards they had sent him; his military career; etc..) They were thrilled to the point of tears..:lovestruc

Also, I made a scrapbook of a trip I took to Florida (where my sister lives) after I treated her to a WDW trip in 2007.. Never finished it until 2009.. She loved it!! :lovestruc

I'm postive your grandmother will be thrilled.. Go for it!!!!! :thumbsup2

Great, great idea!! :goodvibes

Not a Grandma but I give it a big :thumbsup2

I think it's a great idea! My Mom is in that same age group and photos are something that are really important to her. She went to WDW with me and DD15 when DD was 9. I made her a flip book from that trip. . .I did a lot of silly captions. . .and she loved it.

I'm sure she doesn't need anymore "stuff" but a book of photos like that would be great. Don't listen to your kids. . .they're kids.

5 time grandma here! lol.... The best gifts we get now are the beautiful collage photo frames of our grandkids from our DIL! I would LOVE to have a scrapbook type photo album!! I think I may drop some hints! :) She's a lucky lady!

To me, its not the content, its a question of weather or not she enjoys photo albums. If she does, its a great idea. If she does not, would not really look at it after the first time. It would be just another piece of clutter in an already over cluttered home.

Thanks everyone! I'm going to do it. DH was no help when I asked him and I know everyone here would let me know if it was a bad idea.
