and I have no idea how to do it. I tried searching the Providence Journal archives, with no luck. But I am driving myself crazy until I know.

Saturday Jun 23, we were driving through Providence at 4:30AM, on our way down to Vero Beach. There was an accident, and we were stopped. The accident had just happened, so the road was blocked. It was one of those scenes where you see people turn off their engines, and get out of the car, we were not moving anywhere for awhile. MY mistake, was I walked up to see what happened. BIG mistake. It was not a pretty scene. It was a two car accident. One of the cars had the roof cut off. I saw no victims, they were already removed from the scene, THANK GOODNESS. But the car, it was a mangled mess. A police officer was kicking stuff from the car off the road, and I saw a bag of some sort. Like a small duffle bag. It really hit me hard, that the person or persons in this car did not make it. How could they? I could not shake that devastation. I kept thinking, someone did not make it home. Someone else was getting the most devasting news ever. A bunch of guys were taking pictures with their phones, and I asked them if they knew whether or not it was a fatality. Their response seemed a little bit excited when they said "oh yeah, I'm sure". The only thing missing was a high five. GROSS.

I was depressed for hours. Everytime one of my kids would ask if they could unbuckle their seatbelt to get something, I had a stern absolutely NOT response. I can't get the accident out of my head, and I just want to know if their was a fatality or not. Anyone in the area know about this accident? Was it on the news? In the paper?

TIA.

Can't help you but giving this a nice little :bounce: to Page 1. Good luck. :)

Unfortunately there's been several fatal accidents recently. I'm sure it hit the news but there's been a few accidents since then so it probably dropped off the local news.

Do you remember what exit the accident was near, what time of day?

Please don't think all of us are like this....quite the contrary. I'll have to check the weekend papers too see if there was anything there.

I work for a newspaper and unfortunately we just don't have room to report every accident. If there were a fatality, it's more likely it got coverage, though. Chances are if it was in the paper it was part of a series of blotter briefs or an overview story of holiday weekend accidents, so you may not find it there. You might try calling the highway patrol or the county sheriff's office - if you can find out who responded they can probably tell you the results. Sometimes those reports are even available online.
