Anyone know where I can get some great shots od Disney to use as wallpaper? Night shots would be better. Thanks.

How about taking them the next time you go to Disney? Best way to get what you want!

look on photos right here on the dis just right click on photo you like and save as backround
or do a web search for free disney wallpaper

Check the Dis scrapbook board (under Creative Community), Mark Barbieri and others have graciously allowed us to share their photos (for personal use only).

I respectfully disagree with this idea, unauthorized use of someones copyrighted photos is copyright infringement and is illegal,

the best thing to do is politely ask the person if they would mind sharing their photo for the purpose you have in mind, many, but not all people on the dis will happilly share with fellow disers

I agree with Mickey88, even though there is little stopping anyone from using an online photo it is wrong. I have seen a few of mine turn up in places and it gives me a bad feeling about the user, if someone is going to use it at least give credit for the photo.
Better yet, ask first, I have never turned down someone who was decent enough to ask.

i should have said ask first and not assumed that someone would do it without permission check the creative board anyone there will make you one
IF YOU ASK

I found a DIS desktop page right here:

and there is another thread I am looking for... it is a thread of photos people have volunteered to let others use. But I cannot find it right now.

feel free to look through my galleries, and use anything for your desktop.

I have only one thing to say for people who are going to be uptight about someone using their photo as their desktop wallpaper.

:rolleyes2

One would have to be a charter member of the "No Fun Club", probably related to the person who instituted the recent camera restrictions at Disneyland. :lmao: Someone setting a picture as their background is about as innocent as you can get, especially since the file already exists on their PC in the browser's cache.

If you're looking for wallpaper-size photos, check out some of the galleries linked from Barrie's Great Disney World Photos page. Many of the pages there have photos in desktop-sized (or larger) formats. You will also find some of the big Disney news sites (Mouseplanet, AllEarsNet, etc) having desktop photo areas.

can anyone find the DIS thread for wallpapers? It may have been on the community board.

Nah, can't be the Community Board because I have seen that thread and I've never been to the Community Board. I'm thinking maybe Theme Parks Board.

I respectfully disagree I think each person should decide for themselves if they wish to share or not, I choose to not judge others just because their choice may be different than mine..

one thing to keep in mind, is that if a photographer freely gives away their work, they set a precedent that can hurt them in the future if they go to court for an infringement case

While I understand proper etiquette and think it is wise to ask before using, I think when people post a picture it's because they are proud of it and want to show it off to other Disney fans. I think that most of us are not professionals (maybe I'm wrong), and would not have issue with someone using a picture as a desktop. Legally, I don't know if any laws are broken in setting a desktop with images from the web. If you would like to use it for other puposes then maybe you have an issue. I would like to think that most of us on this site are here to try and show off some great pictures we were fortunate enough to capture.

I don't think I've put any "personal use only" restrictions on the use of my Disney pictures. My only restriction was that they not be used in ways that a typical person would find distasteful. That is, not pictures mocking my wife or kids (I'm fair game, though). Basically, I'm not interested in commercializing them but I don't care if others do. Just be aware that you'll probably need Disney's permission for most commercial uses. So if someone wants to include one of my pictures in a collection of wallpapers for sale, knock yourself out.

While I agree that it is probably technically illegal and that asking is polite, I think saving a photo for personal wallpaper falls under the doctrine of, well, stuff that isn't important enough to worry about. It's in the same camp as forwarding an e-mail with pictures without first securing the rights to do so, letting a neighbor have a copy of a show you recorded off the TV (without the express, written permission of Major League Baseball), or mailing a photocopy of a story in a newspaper.

BTW, you can now legally make blocks that fit together with Lego blocks.

for the most part I agree, however wanting to show off a pic and wanting to give it away are 2 different things..

when a photographer or artist, hold an exhibit, yes they want to showcase/show off their work, but that doesn't mean they want people to take one with them when they leave..

is it illegal..technically yes...will you get caught and end up in court..most likely not..
however there is software that will hide an electronic watermark in the exif data..there are companies that search the web for unauthorized use of such photos, and I believe it can even detect them on your hard drive if you are connected to the net..

I'm having a hard time believing that. I can accept that a hacker might be able to get through my router's network address translation and my firewall and turn on file sharing for the folders that have my pictures, but I don't believe that anyone is doing this to look for copyright infringing photos.

Well, your entire hard drive is shared by default ("administrative share") and since, by default, XP has a blank administrator password, it doesn't take much to get into anyone's PC! But if you have a router, it's virtually impossible for anyone to get to your PC unless you've specifically configured it to allow one PC to share resources that way - very unlikely.

Regardless of the technical things, there's no possible way any copyright holders would be able to get away with searching your hard drive. With Napster and such things, they'd prosecute you based on what you were offering for others to download, but they had no idea (and no legal way to find out, I don't believe) what else existed on your PC.

Remember also that all these photos that you view on the web do exist on your PC, in your cache folder. Surely someone's not going to claim that they're legal in one folder but not another?

If any photographer wanted to sue me for using a picture as a desktop wallpaper... well, bring it on. :teeth:
