I have to keep reminding myself to breath...everything will work out. Let me just start by saying H (yes, I removed the darling part) is not a big disney fan. He has always thought I was a little crazy because I love it so much, but he has indulged me with a few visits to the kingdom. He even let me talk him into Fl resident passes one year.
But now he has let me plan and dream of our 3/21 cruise since last August and is threatening to cancel. He says we can't afford a $3000 cruise, so the only way we can go is to get a Fl resident discount. I told him that was not a guarantee when we booked it. And, his company has paid for $1400 of the cruise thru a bonus program they have.
We have been married for 13 years and have a DS 12 and DD 9. It would break their hearts to cancel. I told him I knew of a way to save $900 real quick. Leave him on land!
Thank you for letting me get that off my chest.:worried:

Praying for pixie dust:angel:

:wave2: Throwing you some PD! DO NOT BUDGE! If he wants to cancel, than let "HIM" cancel and save yourself $900, but DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT let him guilt you into canceling the whole thing. If he felt it was too much to begin with he should have never have given you the go ahead to book! PD PD PD ::yes:: ::yes::

So sorry to hear of your predicament.......I don't blame you for being upset but I know you will find a way to work things out.

Hope to hear good news from you soon...

If you truly can afford it, go!

Life is too short.

You can even do a few creative things to take some pressure off as far as money goes. Sell stuff on Ebay, take olds clothes to the consignment shop, save all your change in a big jar, cut out extras like coffee shop drinks, fast food, etc.

Let us know what you end up doing! :D

Ack! Sending you lots of pixie dust- I know I'd be upset if DH did that to me!!! I'd be like uhuh, I don't think so dude!!.... especially if the kids already knew and had been waiting all that time! :( I hope you end up going as planned!

Dear Rabbit,
Hang in there! My DH did this to me regarding a trip to Ireland. He was all gung ho for the trip and after it was planned, changed his tune. (We are married 14 years, and this was a big disappointment for me; maybe it's like the 7 year itch- the 14 year tightwad phase.) When it came time to get his passport renewed he balked, sulked and said we can't possibly pull the trip off. He complained so much I cancelled.
So I decided to let it go, and last Feb. booked a cruise for this spring and have been paying for it gradually. He didn't know about it until a month ago, when I knew he'd have to start looking for friends to cover the business. We haven't been away for a week at a time since our WDW trip in 2000, on which by the way he had a blast.
Just do the best you can to budget well, and don't cancel. He's trying to put it all off on you, even with the two kids counting on the trip. If it has to be cancelled, let him do it and explain to the kids. Good Luck.....I hope it turns out he's just having a bad day and will see things differently tomorrow.
Buggie

So sorry to hear your H is such a tightwad. Mine is too. He took the initiative however, to start selling off things on ebay. That little stinker has now sold more than enough to pay for the whole cruise, the 4-day passes to the park (for our family of 6!) and probably a bit of spending money as well. He's so darn proud of himself it's unbearable. He sold everything from old cameras, old records, books, kid's toys, skiis and I don't even want to guess what else. All I know is my house is a bit roomier and we are heading for a great cruise on Feb 1-5 2004 for all 6 of us!! That ebay stuff is well worth checking into!! Good luck to you. I hope the dust falls your way!!

I just said I little prayer for your DH that he would see the dust at the end of the tunnel. It all works out in the end!:grouphug: GoofyFD

Pixie Dust coming at ya.

I agree with floridafam. If you can go - go! Money is worth far more then memories. Looking back on my childhood - our fmaily vacation is some of the best memories I have. Tell him you'll limit the number of bahama mamas you have to like ....three a day! That's savings right there!

I think a majority of people cannot afford the vacations they take, but they go anyway! We always recover and are so thankful we are away. I hope it all works out. :grouphug:

Have you thought about changing your dates? I looked up for four people and if you moved it to 2/29 you could go for only $1887.00 if you subtract the 1400.00 his company paid well then the trip is only 487.00! Other dates with reduced fares are 3/17-$2387.00 and 4/18 for $2087.00. You might want to consider just switching your dates.

edited to add, I just checked the florida resident rates and if you went on 2/8 instead you could go for only $1467.00! That would only be 67.00 after his bonus. I would seriously consider switching the dates.

Way to go Ann!!! So resourceful!!!

Just remeber one thing.........................if you wait until you can afford it, you'll never go!!!

I think once you get him on the ship, he'll be glad he went! There's something for everyone all the time!

PIXIE DUST YOUR WAY!

I have always believed in the power of prayer!

Okay, we have changed our date to March 4. I don't know how many of you are from Florida, but in March we have FCAT testing. It is a BIG deal. I put in many calls to my DS school today to find out the exact dates, and I work at DD school. They will be testing on March 1,2,3,8,10. So the 4th works out perfect:cool1:
I hate to lose a day at sea, but the cost was only 1523.40. So we only owed 73.40.
He can't argue with that. So, I booked it and paid in full. I guess after saving all that money I can have more Bahama Mamas!
:jumping1:

I want to thank all of you for the prayers and pixie dust. :love1:
You guys are the best! Okay, I have to go figure out how to change my countdown clock and start packing!

Great news! It seemed like the best option to me, since you live in Florida and didn't have to deal with airfare switches!
To change your countdown clock just go into your user cp and profile and adust the date in your signature.

Alright!

Glad to hear you are still going.

I never thought about swithching dates.

Have a wonderful time!

FL resident rates are only available about 3 months in advance. However, if they are made available, your TA can call and have you changed to FL resident rate...so you don't lose anything by booking in advance. THey are also available only in limited categories...all dependent on how full the ship is.

I vote for leaving Grumpy on the shore waving goodbye.....

I know exactly how that is. I'm one of the ones who has to take the FCAT and it is very important, especially to my high school which is fairly new (only 3 years this year)

Glad to hear that you can go on your cruise!

Good for you!! My "H" doesn't care for ANYTHING Disney but when I told him that this was something the boys and I really wanted to do and I'D UNDERSTAND IF HE'D RATHER NOT GO (;) he suddelnly changed his mind and is now telling everyone how much he's looking forward to the trip!!!! We also decided to spend a day at Epcot after the cruise. It worked again!! I told him to feel free relaxing at the pool or whatever and that we'd be back in the late evening. He started talking about riding "Mission Space"!!

There's more than one way to skin a rat!! (or so the old saying goes!)

Three cheers for Brer Rabbit 70...........she's "crusin"!!!

:bounce:

Kudos to Ann for being so resourceful! I love a resourceful person!!!
