Hi, my family and I are staying in the Bonnet Creek in August. We've never stayed before and although looks beautiful I'm beginning to hear mixed reviews. A lot of people have posted on Trip advisor that the rooms are dirty, have roaches in some and noisy occupants and the crowd was undesirable so i'm a little worried. We are a family with two children and keep to ourselves but like to have fun. I just need some honest answers. Am I reading too much into the reviews?

thank you

Yes, you are. It's a great place. It's not perfect, but no place is. The chances you won't have a good experience are minuscule.

We stayed there for a week in June after spending a week at the royal pacific universal studios. We stayed in a 4 bedroom building II rm 942. Not one bug, never heard the neighbors and enjoyed our stay and the space very much. I have 3 kids and was not worried about them at the resort. I can't speak for other rooms or towers but everyone I interacted with during the week was having a great time and the staff were very nice and helpful. Hope that helps.

We stayed there last September for 9 nights with our 5 yr old, 3 yr old and 3 mo old and had a fantastic time.

First of all, WBC is a great resort. You'll have a great time.

With regard to critters...welcome to Florida!

When you read about bugs in hotels in Florida, 90% of the time the poster is talking about Palmetto Bugs.

The lovely Palmetto Bug is a flying cockroach which is big enough to BBQ. Seriously...they can be 2-2 1/2 inches long! I had one in my bathroom a couple of nights ago and it was so big I heard it running along the baseboard before I saw it.

Palmetto Bugs are everywhere in Florida. They are not a sign of uncleanliness -- they simply FLY, and they go wherever they want. Leave a door or window open...bingo! I have encountered Palmetto Bugs in deluxe hotels all over Florida, including onsite Disney resorts.

We also have lizards, snakes, alligators, cute little bunnies, and if you get lucky you might see a whitetail deer at WDW. Again, it has nothing to do with cleanliness, they are just part of the landscape here. It's that whole nature thing we have going on...kinda like the thunderstorms every summer afternoon.

We absolutely adore WBC. Last summer we stayed for 2 weeks. We are also a family of 4 and are very quiet. The only noise we occasionally heard was when people were in the hallway and slammed the door. Aside from that there was one night that when we were in the master suite we could hear the people next door.....it sounded like teens having a party but you had to turn off the TV and really listen to hear it. It may have bothered me if I was trying to sleep but it wouldn't have kept me awake was long. We also experienced a few idiots at the pool but that will happen anywhere.

Never once saw a bug in the suite. It was very clean.

We are, right now, trying to rent a place at WBC for 2 weeks in August. The only hold back at the moment is budget. We weren't planning to go so there isn't much money in the vacation account.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat, and we are! We stayed the first week in June in a 2 bedroom deluxe in Tower 1. I have already requested quotes for next year's spring break because I know for sure that WBC is where we will be staying again. Unless there is a convention where we need to stay in an on-site hotel we will probably keep coming back to WBC.

We did not see any bugs at all. Our room was clean and we had nothing but good experiences with the staff and with other guests.

My family is in the minority I guess, that wasnt impressed with wbc and wont return. I will spend the xtra for a disney hotel. Just my 2¢.

My family leaves in a week to go to Bonnet Creek for 2 weeks and I am a little concerned with all the mixed reviews lately. It seems like everyone on these boards love Bonnet Creek.

There's good and bad at everyone hotel, but if you read the postings here everyone just loves BC. I have been reading the reviews on Tripadviser for months. For a long time the reviews were good, but lately the reviews have been mixed. There are quite a few that have been mentioning worn and torn furniture. There are several that have been mentioning roaches, and one of the reviews that mentioned roaches was from a VIP Gold member and in building 6.

I take the mixed reviews with a grain of salt, but then again not every bad review is from a person that wants to complain. If the clientelle at the resort is changing due to the fact that people can rent at a very low price, then the people on this site must be seeing that change too, but don't mention it.

The reviews are mostly about rooms with a parking lot view or garbage disposal view. When a person with a room near the compactors said they had roaches in their room I would definitely believe it. I think a lot of people know the difference between the palmetto bug and a roach. New York has their own version of the Palmetto bug -- it's know as the waterbug.

Roaches are everywhere. I would love to know of a state that doesn't have their fair share of them. I read these boards for some honest opinions, but there are way too many fantastic reviews for all of them to be so true.

Does Wyndham give renters the rooms that aren't in the best of condition and face the parking lot or garbage disposal area? I'm sure that when a person checks in, they know whether the person is an owner or renter.

I'm just hoping for a room that is clean and the furniture isn't that worn out. Since I am on vacation, I would love a nice view. I would rather have a noisy pool view on a low floor than to have a dumpster view. We see enough of that in Manhattan on the lower east side.

Is there anyone on these boards that has stayed at BC lately that hasn't been thrilled with their room or that had a pretty decent room, but the clientelle was a little shady?

Thanks for any info.

I too read some unpleasant reviews and have the same questions. My husband is dying to stay there so now it's a matter of finding the best deal. Everywhere I look to book this resort you need to pay in full at the time of booking which is a turn off for me. Hope to get some good advice here.:)

I'm planning a last minute vacation for the end of July if I can get it or early August. I received a quote from an owner and the price is good, but the mixed reviews on Tripadviser lately are making me hold off.

I will probably bite the bullet and go for it since it will be a two bedroom and we save money by cooking and eating most of our meals in. I'm on vacation and rally don't want to cook, but having a dishwasher is a lifesaver. I don't have a dishwasher at home so that is a frill.

I joined these boards a long time ago, but I only read the postings or ask a question when I am planning a vacation like I am trying to do now. I usually love staying at a Disney resort, but the hotel rooms at Pop Century are too expensive and way to small for 4 people.

I would really like some honest reviews on Bonnet Creek. Is the furniture in a lot of the rooms worn out or torn? Are a lot of the rooms getting roaches in them? Are the people staying there more rowdy lately? Since I will be a renter will I have a chance of getting a room with a nice view?

Thanks.

We have stayed there once or twice a year for the past 4 years. We have stayed in 4 different buildings. We used to be DVC members and have stayed at almost every hotel on disney property. I much prefer bonnet creek, we have never had a bad experience there or seen a bug in our unit (I wish I could say the same for my house) WE get fabulous deals on ebay, so we can get 3 nights in a 3br 1600 sf unit at bonnet creek for the same cost as a one night in a 350sf room at the polynesian. WE don't do the parks so much anymore so the convenience is a non issue. I really cant imagine what the bad reviews are about, havent seen them.

A friend of ours has their timeshare in BC. We were fortunate enough to vacation with them last year and we loved it, no problems at all. Not a bad word to say about it. Good luck!!!

Thank you everyone for your responses and your honesty. I'm not trying to trash the place at all. I always saw good reviews and lately not so great that's why I was asking. We are not rich or stuck up people but we are family people and enjoy hanging out with other families. I'm just worried about families, who I seem to encounter all too often now, who not only curse in front of their kids but the kids are now cursing too! It is such a turnoff for me and inappropriate. We like to stay at more upscale places but don't want to pay the upscale price and I think that's unfortunately attracting different people. I live in ny so I know what a cockroach is. I don't know what a palmetto bug is though so I will have to look it up.
I guess I should have also asked what other place is comparable that you would recommend?

We've stayed there twice and rent points. We had a great first visit and an ok second visit. Part of it was our first room was in tower 6 which had just opened the week we got there. The second time we were in tower 5 on the second floor facing the parking lot. The second unit was older and showed its wear. We never saw bugs.

For the money, you can't beat the space and the location. That said, it was so much more crowded the second visit than the first visit. I'm not sure if more people are fitting into every unit but it really was a lot busier for about the same week. The pools really were very crowded. I would say the lazy river could get rowdy in terms of the crowds but the others were just busy.

I'd still recommend it but not with the same 'we loooooooooovvvvvvve the bonnet creek' enthusiam.

It seems like a lot of families stay at WBC, and a lot of families traveling together. It is not unusual to see groups of 20 people cooking out at the grills or gathered around boxes of pizza by the pools. I would say it has a very nice family atmosphere. Friendly people with smiles on their faces, LOTS of kids, have never seen anything I would deem inappropriate going on. We have in the past stayed at the most "upscale" as you would say, properties at Disney, we have done many of the concierge there. Staying at expensive upscale places does not always exempt you from seeing people behaving inappropriately, just saying.

I agree with this.

As with any place, regardless of price or star rating, you will see bad behaviour. In my experience at WBC it was all good with a few minor exceptions. Yes, we saw and heard adults cursing at their children.....I've also witnessed it in MK. We saw a few kids, in the pool, get a little out of hand because their parents weren't watching them....also saw this at the Waldorf. No matter where you go there will always be some people that leave all the rules and common courtesy at home when on vacation.

As to the previous comment about worn furniture. Last year while we were there they were replacing the furniture. At that point they had completed about 50% of the resort so by now everything should be new.

We stayed her this past April and loved it!! We never ran into any of the issues you mentioned. Room was clean, no bugs although in FL I would not be shocked to see one, and we were in the 1st floor. No noise and no out if control guests but that can happen anyway.

We stayed at BC about a month ago and really like it. After we stayed we decided not to stay onsite for our October trip and booked another stay at BC.

I thought our carpet was a little worn and somewhat stained. The furniture was in good shape but I don't think it matched, looked a little hodge podge, like they had took the best of what thye had and put it in there. The room was very clean. We didn't hear any noise except for our last night. Our neighbors were being a little rowdy. That can happen anywhere. Other than that one night I didn't hear a thing.
