I need help with an argument...

"Of course you don't have wings. You're a boy!"

  • I know what movie this is from!!

  • Clueless, will wait for the answer in the thread.

  • Something completely different came to mind.

  • I don't care what movie it's from, that's going to be cute with wings on the back of that t-shirt.

This is kind of :offtopic:, but it needs to be settled. I'm posting it here b/c it involves family. I'm currently making t-shirts to wear at WDW. The shirt references a non-Disney movie, but it is Jim Henson. I would just like to know what comes to mind when reading it.

"Of course you don't have wings. You're a boy!"

& on the back will be a pair of wings.

This has become a rather serious bone of contention between myself princess: & my mom :stir:. If only b/c she feels it's her duty to stop me from looking stupid. I feel it's only her insistence that 95% of the population thinks the way she does that's the problem.

I'm going to post what she thinks & what movie the quote is actually from after I get a few replies.

what popped into my head when I read the title was those lady's pad ads in the late 80s (the always pads) then I got to thinking Tinker Bell & she has several guy friends that do have wings

honestly I"m not sure what you are talking about

I was kinda hung up on the quote. I know it is a movie quote, but I kept thinking how sad for the boys and that in Tinkerbell boy fairies have wings.

Well, shoot. I now have to go back & apologize to my mom. :worship: That's exactly what she kept saying it reminded her of. I was convinced that no one else was going to think of pads when they saw that. :confused3

I stay away from the new age Tinkerbell. So I didn't know if there were any male fairies in her new movies. I'm still ticked about her trying to get Wendy killed.

Either way, thanks for the feedback.

The movie you are referring is a very obscure Jim Henson movie. Many if not all people will get. Most people will think Tinkerbell or something Fairy related and as another poster said the tag line from the pad adds.

Swamp Fox

I hope you aren't making those shirts for any males to wear, because they aren't going to be very happy about it.

I know what you're talking about, but only because my DH loves that movie and was talking about it with DD the other day. My second thought was something to do with fairies and Tinkerbell; maxi pads didn't occur to me but I was fairly young when those commercials were on tv.

Or else by none

Yeah, I know what movie it came from.....:p

I know what movie you are talking about. If I remember that movie was fairly popular when it came out, but it doesn't seem like one that many kids or young adults know about today. I think a lot of people won't understand the meaning of that shirt. I don't think you would "look stupid". I think a lot of people would think it was some type of inside family joke, or just wouldn't have a clue what it meant.

Nope, just for me! princess:

That was my progression of thoughts!!

:cool1: Thank you!! :thumbsup2

This whole thing just got blown out of proportion b/c she wouldn't stop insisting that "95% of the population" thinks like she does. :crazy2: I tried to shrug it off but she kept yammering on & on about how it would make me look stupid. IDK if she's just mood swinging or what, but it set me off. :furious:

I'm going to scrap the whole quote. I'll keep the wings on the back of the shirt, :artist: but it's just not worth the hassle of dealing with her mood. It seems to me that people, in general, don't understand the quotes on the merchandise they buy. They just seem to buy it b/c it appears popular. The girlfriends of all my male friends have shirts with various quotes about Schrodinger's cat. Not a single one of those females actually understands the reference. They only know they saw it on BBT. I worry for my generation sometimes. :scared:

I don't think you should scrap the idea. It's for YOU, not for anyone else. Your mom can just deal with it. Children of the '80s will get it, and I bet you will get compliments.

I appreciate that. It's so funny that you mentioned "Children of the '80s." :rotfl2: I am one! :cool1:

I even tried to ignore her, simply *because * it wasn't really about the shirt. It was about how she reacted. I would love to have that on a shirt, but IDK if she'll keep her mouth shut. That is what has ruined the idea of it. I don't care if no one else understood it. I own a ton of shirts with obscure references or jokes on them. She just got really rude about it. I'll admit I could have been more mature, but by the time I :furious: exploded, I was ready to scrap the whole t-shirt making idea.

To be honest, I didn't recognize the quote until Dannysmom posted the other bit. I knew that quote was from Dark Crystal, so I assumed the yours was also. I loved that movie when I was a kid.

Someone said that people would assume it was a family joke - if the shirt looked homemade that would be my assumption upon seeing it. If the shirt looked store bought then it may occupy my mind for a minute, but no more. I get where you're coming from about the butting heads. BTDT - but with my ILs...

wow this is a lot of discussion. wear what you want, don't worry about what everyone else thinks. just please don't make your kids wear them. let them have a choice.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does that mean? ^
I know right? Some times the abbreviations drive me up the wall. Especially with the hotel and attraction names. I have to google at least one a day. Sometimes I wonder how many newcomers and first time Disneyers have left the boards because they can't understand anything and can't get info. Also the "DH, DD, DS, SD" stuff gets on my nerves. Why is it so hard to type the word HUSBAND? I just did it, I didn't explode, or hurt myself...SMH FYI that's completely IMO. IDK maybe I'm LOCO. Now I'm annoying myself. LMAO I suffer through it in order to get info though. I am a complete and utter B word, and irritate easily, so I figure I'm just over reacting to it.
