I need a new toaster oven - happy update post #15

Any brand recommendations? My husband has begged me to get a toaster oven for years. I waited until our old traditional toaster finally died before relenting. We got a Power XL from Sam’s Club about 6 months ago. It is also an air fryer. However…it produces HORRIBLE toast!!! The toast does not brown or crisp at all. I’m getting rid of it ASAP. But we have found we really do like having the toaster oven as a whole, so I’d like another. I just want it to toast some dang bread. I’ve spent hours & hours reading reviews. But I would love some real-life recommendations from mu friends on the DIS. Does anyone have a great toaster oven that makes great toast? The air fry function is a bonus, but I definitely want to be able to do some light baking in it too….

I am eyeing a Black & Decker on Amazon. The price is right, it all the reviews talk about it baking or convection oven-ing. None mention how well the toasting works.

We have this same one. I really like it. I use it on pretty much a daily basis. I do not use it to make toast though, I just use the regular toaster for that. I have always thought that a regular toaster beats out a toaster oven for toast.

We have an older Black and Decker in the basement too, and it is perfectly good. Just upgraded to the air fryer feature for the main kitchen.

Yeah, it took some experimentation but it seems to work out OK. I don't make toast very often but I do toast waffles for breaksfast sometimes. I just turn the Toast dial to the first setting, then when that's done I flip the waffles over and do it again. I tried the same thing for toast, flip it over halfway through because the heating elements on the top seem stronger than the ones on the bottom. That way it toasts evenly. I also keep a close eye on it so it doesn't burn because that seems to happen quickly!

I agree that a real toaster does work better but my old toaster wasn't actually very good, so this is better by default!

Ninja Foodi Oven I love mine! Use it every day to either make toast or cook in it. Pricey, but we've had ours for 3 years and only have replaced the crumb tray.

I've had two and both times they caught fire, I love the function but they are way too dangerous- like how does foil catch fire with nothing on it? Still don't get it.

Breville! It's pricey, but the best made toaster oven we have ever had and we have had all brands.

We like our 2 slice Hamilton Beach Toaster that we got last summer. We have an older Toaster Oven by Black and Decker.

We have an Oster we bought in 2020 and love it. Our regular oven broke and we needed something for at least a month until the part to fix it came in. Our #1 want was it was big enough for a frozen pizza. We use the toaster just about every day, bake pizzas, roast veggies and have even baked cookies in it. We took our regular toaster to our RV and will most likely never go back. We have a Breville.. Delonghi and Black and decker. They are all boxed up in garage prob gathering
dust. Once we got an air fryer (Cosori) we could not justify the space the toaster oven used. I loved
it but more and more put stuff in the air fryer. As far as toast we just got a good toaster. I think
it is Hamilton Beach keep warm model. But even my husband makes his grilled cheese sandwich in
air fryer and it comes out perfect.

I second Breville! I have a countertop oven that will bake a pizza and hold a 9x13 pan, but it does 6-8 slices of toast at a time and has a separate bagel setting that gives extra attention to browning the top of the bagel. I use it every day for something, even more than my microwave or regular oven/stove. If it ever dies, I will replace it with another Breville.

This whole topic is so silly, but I’m also SO happy to report back that I finally ordered a Cusinart toaster oven/convection oven. I LOVE this thing! It makes fantastic toast, and bakes great. I don’t even care if none of the other features work! My family is just so darn happy to have legit, browned toast!
