Currently im running a very small company with a few of my pals, although we dont own it. When i say very small, we have 6 employees, including the owner. The owner, for all he is a good guy to work with, is a bit of a liability and the possibility of it going wrong is quite high, as he has the business brain of a dead hedgehog. I love the job, but probably as im pretty much my own boss and as we were all mates previously, owner apart, we have a great time. Theres no way i would stay in the same line of work with another company!W e run a small urgent delivery company in anybody is interested

Ive also just graduated from university, well i finished last year but due to one thing or another and a huge mix up ive only just recieved confirmation that im getting a degree(in november). However, i dont really want to work in the industry my degree is in( BEng Product Design Engineering).

So, does anybody have any pointers or recommendations on an interesting and rewarding career path to take? Anybody work for a company looking for graduates, regardless of discipline? Im 23 btw, soon to be 24.

Have you thought about teaching ? schools or colleges, you have a degree think you only have to take a year teaching course if you already have a degree, well at least you do in scotland anyway.

good luck and i hope something comes your way, you are still young and have a lot of opportunities to find.

Good luck, im sure you will find something soon :goodvibes

No ideas but you have a lot of experience and what with your degree your CV will make good reading so Im sure the world of work is at your feet. GOOD LUCK:thumbsup2

No advice sorry but just wanted to say good luck I am sure that you will find something suitable soon. :) Congrats on your degree by the way.

No real advice here (i'm in a similar position myself, working at the moment but looking for something better!) but FWIW my bf isn't using his degree (he did CAD which I think is fairly similar to what you did, definitely has aspects of engineering in there) and I think the same is true for a lot of people. He works for our local council now and when he was interviewing for the job they focused more on his substantial work experience than his degree, I think the fact that you have that going for you will work in your favour :)

I graduated in 2006 & have had to start looking for a job away from what my degree is in due to there not being enough work. However I would love to work in the US as there is loads of work in what i'm qualified in but have to do another 2 years minimum at a Uni out there, which I can't afford at the present time.

Good luck with your job search:thumbsup2

ahhhhh, the crossroads situation. Just keep you eyes peeled for something that takes your fancy and apply. You never know, you might get lucky and bag the ideal job. Happy job hunting.:)

Why do a degree in an area where you do not wish to be employed in?

I did when i started the degree. Its easy to lose interest in something. Plus, i wasnt very good at the design, or the drawing, or the innovation, plus i didnt enjoy many aspects of the design process and dont want to spend a career doing something i dont enjoy. Aged 19, it can be difficult to decide what you want to spend the rest of your life doing. There was plenty of aspects of the course that i did enjoy, such as marketing and advertising, supply chain management, product branding, and facility design so i may follow a career in one of these areas, but i don't want to spend my life being a product design engineer.
