I need a Kidney....

Well, about 7 years ago i was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease.....

Last month I was in the hospital for 10 days with an infection and the PKD has progressed to the point where I am now on the transplant list....

I have not started dialysis yet..but it will most likely be soon....

My dear sis is being tested to see if she can donate...

It is overwhelming.....

any good thoughts/prayers will be appreciated...

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear about that. My mom, brother, and cousin have PKD. Most likely I do too but I haven't been tested. My mom is probably only 1-2 years away from needing a transplant. Luckily a lot of her friends and coworkers have already told her they would get tested to donate. Its amazing how many people are willing to donate.

PKD affects 1 in 500 people. Its a wonder to me how few people know about and how little money is donated for research.

Good luck with your testing and I hope your sister is a match!:grouphug:

Thanks everyone ...the personal stories and good thoughts mean so much!!

You have such a good attitude about everything. I do understand about your husband. It's hard for men when they can't "fix" what's wrong. I'm married to a fixer who is learning that he can't always fix things and it seems almost doubly worse on them.

I will keep you and your family in my prayers and hope that things go quickly and smoothly for you. Remember to come here for some uplifting when spirits are low or some jokes when you need a laugh or even a shoulder when you need to cry. This is a great place for it. :grouphug:

I am sorry to hear your're facing such a serious health challenge. Praying the perfect donor be found so you can be restored to good health once again. Keep the faith and your chin up, we're all routing for you!!! Godspeed :goodvibes

My thoughts are with you:grouphug:

PKD runs in my family and my grandfather, dad, uncle, aunt and cousin all have or had it. My dad and uncle both had transplants within about 2 months of one another last year (their poor mother was a wreck!).

My aunt was the donor for my uncle. My mom was tested to be a donor for my dad but was not a good match. My sister and I were not considered as donors since there is still a possibility we could develop PKD. The doctor put my dad on the transplant list before it was absolutely necessary (and before he had to go on dialysis) hoping that by the time he needed a kidney he would be further up the list.

Last year he got a call in the middle of the night that a kidney was on its way from CA and he would have surgery that day. We were shocked since his doctor said it would probably be about a 2 year wait. Apparently it was such a good match that he was moved up the list.

It was an adjustment for him and there were some complications along the way, but now he doing better than ever. We are so grateful to the young man in CA who chose to be a donor.

Best wishes to you. I hope the whole process goes as smoothly as possible.

:grouphug: Sending thoughts and prayers. Wishing you all the best. Blessings to you.
