.....dropped my DS (8) off for his first week long summer camp at 9:00 AM this morning. First time he's ever been gone like this before. My baby is growing up......

My smilies aren't working so here's a <hug> to you. My dd is 3 but when I think about her going to kindergarten it makes me cry. I hope your week flies by!!

It'll be much harder on you than it will on him! He'll have a great time. And you'll be fine, too. :grouphug: It just takes awhile to adjust.

Hugs sent. I'll be doing this for the first time with my dd (12yo) & I dread it but I know she will have a great time! Hope your son does also. Do something fun for yourself!

You are so right! When we got there this morning one of the girls from his class was already there (they've been in school together since kindergarden) and he forgot mom was even there until the registration tables opened up. By the time I left there were several other class mates there waiting to check in, I know he'll have a blast, it's just so hard letting them go....

Thanks everyone else for your support and the virtual hugs! Thankfully I've been so busy here at work trying to get caught up, I haven't had much time to think about it but now it is time to go home.

I'm sure he's fine and you will be too!! Remind me of that next summer when I'm doing the same for my son. He'll be going away for a week of summer camp too, and he'll be 8 as well!!!

It's Ok, Mom. He'll be allright, More importatnly YOU'LL be ok. Take a deep breath and enjoy the freedom this buys you both! ***BIG GIRL HUGS**

Thanks everyone! The house had a completely different atmosphere last night but we're okay. DD (3) kept saying "I miss my Micah"

I'm sure he is having a great time. He signed up for the midnight water slide one night and another night they will be camping out in this huge tree house. They said that parents could come to the Wednesday night service but DH and I are heading up the children's summer program at our church and can't miss, kinda think that might make it worse in the event that he was feeling a little home sick anyways.

:grouphug: I know how you feel. My ds5 is an only child. We've been through a lot w/his dad... but it's much better now that I'm re-married. He's starting Kindergarten in the fall and it's killing me. My baby is growing up too. I was telling the lady at his preschool... she couldn't believe he's going to be in K already. I said I know its scary.... he was standing there and he said "mom you might be scared for me to go to kindergarten, but I'm not"... it was so cute!!! :grouphug: I'd be going

This post was the one showing on the main page for the Community Board when I signed onto the DIS just now. Curious, I clicked on it - whew!!! I KNOW the feeling!

Last year, my daughter (6 yr old last year) went to camp for a week in North Carolina. We live in Middle Georgia and it was about a 5 hour drive.

Thinking I was doing so good that morning as we unpacked her stuff and made up her bunk bed, it all of a sudden hit me that she was growing up. Big time. I looked around the cabin, realized I was driving home 5 hours without her and started BAWLING. I had to take her outside and assure her that I was happy for her and that she'd have a great week...even though Mom was a complete basket case. But it was SO HARD! I am a crier. And once I turn it on, it doesn't stop. I cried all the way home.

Anyway, she had a wonderful week and the camp kept us updated with daily updates and pictures on the website. I was glued to the computer worse than I am when I DIS! She will return to the same camp this summer for two weeks and she can't wait. It was a great time of growth for her - and us, too!!

Best wishes for a special week for you and your son - closing day will be here before you know it and your son will have enriched his life with some great time and memories.

Have a great day! :)

Finally had a minute to post. Just wanted to let everyone know that we survived our first camp experience. DS had a great time! The only thing he lost was his water shoes, and he came home with an extra pair of shorts. He did break his glasses somehow but is due for a new pair anyways so it wasn't to bad.

When I picked him up on Friday he said, "mom, mom come meet my counselor, he has a fake ear." And then he proceeds to run off with me following after him. He runs up to this teenager and says "Mr. C, this is mom, show her your ear." At which the teenager proceeds to pull off his ear and hold it out to me and said "I let them play with it". :faint:  I wasn't really sure what to say so I said, "oh, cool!" :teeth:
