I looked on the sticky and I couldn't find anything that seemed to fit what I need. I have a Canon DSLR rebel and I know it has so much more potential than what I'm using it for. I usually fiddle with the dial to get the effect I'm looking for and it's nothing like what I've seen from you guys! I don't know what an ISO is or how to know what to change it to. Is there a good beginners guide that will help me before our next trip? :confused3

the digital photography for dummies spends about 1 chapter talking about taking pictures and the other 9 talking about Post Proccessing.

"Understanding Exposure" is a good place to start to learn about what changes in ISO, apeture, and shutter speed will do for you photo.

But the first place to start is your users manual so you know how to make the adjustments you'll need to make.

Bryan Peterseon has some good photography books, Understanding Exposure: 2dn Edition, Understanding Digital Photography (which has alot of the same content as Understanding Exposure). National Geographic has a while line of photography books as well.

Here are some I have that I picked up after taking several different titles from our local library (I like to try before I buy:thumbsup2 )

This first one I liked because it was easy to understand and covered many practical areas in a way I understood and also provided some interesting topics for future reference (pinhole photography and infrared photography)

Digital SLR and Photography for Dummies by David Busch

This next one I picked up because it covered photography generally such as composition and exposure again in a way I could easily understand. It is apparently used as a text book for courses in England (according to the foreword in the book) and has photo assignments suggested at the end of each chapter. It also covers film developing, if you want to know about that.

Langford's Basic Photography by Michael Langford

And I just got this one for Father's Day! I like this book for a lot of practical tips on shooting certain types of scenes or in certain types of lighting. It also has lots of gorgeous photos and talks about how to use a monopod!

Digital Photographers Handbook by Tom Ang

I also like the http://www.luminous-landscape.com site which has lots of good information in its "Understanding Series" and tutorials.

Have fun reading and shooting (pictures of course;) )

Sorry for the late "thank you" but thank you!!! I've just ordered those books from the library and I'm copying notes from the links so I can study those as well. Thank you so much! :goodvibes
