While I was cleaning, I was listening to our local country/western station and this song came on:

"Let There Be Peace On Earth and Let It Begin With Me"

I believe it started off with an adult singing and then went into a solo by a child.. Oh my gosh - it was SO beautiful it brought tears to my eyes and a huge lump to my throat..

Does anyone know who sings that particular version? If I can find out I can have my son-in-law pay to download it from the computer..

Thanks!

That's probably Vince Gill and his own child, daughter Jenny Gill, circa 1993. :)

lol..I was just listening to that cd today..it says on the cover Let There Be Peace On Earth..performed by Vince Gill and Jenny Gill..and the cd is dated 1993 as another posted guessed!

I remember singing that song in chorus in the 70's. It must be a pretty old song that's been redone along the way.

It's a really nice song. :D

Looks like the song was first copyrighted in 1955. :)

Let There Be Peace on Earth

By Jill Jackson and Sy Miller

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth,
The peace that was meant to be.
With God our Creator,
Children all are we.
Let us walk with each other
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me,
Let this be the moment now
With every step I take,
Let this be my joyous vow:
To take each moment
And live each moment
In peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.

Another one I really like is "Let It Be Christmas" by Alan Jackson.

We are Catholic and this song (instrumental, not Vince Gill! ;) ) was played at our wedding. It is used quite frequently during Sunday Mass.

It is a touching and powerful song!

I love that version with Vince Gill and his daughter - it's really beautiful. Her voice is pure and innocent and he has the voice of an angel!

DH grandpa loved that song. He used to sing in the choir a long time ago, and he had a beautiful voice. I remember last Christmas, the choir from his church came to his house caroling and they asked him to sing with them, and he wanted to sing that song. We lost him in July, and the song makes me cry now when I hear it.

I also have had this Cd for quite a few years now. I was just listening to it today. I work at a preschool and for our graduations we do a slide show and pick some really great songs. I was just thinking how this would be a nice way to end the slide show. Our prayer for peace.

I think that I am going to try and find that CD. I sang that song as a duet with another girl back in elementary school (1970s)

Oh my goodness - that is a great idea - BUT - there won't be a dry eye in the house.. Better stock up on the tissues.. :earseek:

I signed up for AOL Music Net. It has a great search feature. About a month ago I did a search on the song and got about 10 hits and listened to them. I picked that one and downloaded it. It's great!

They are using the Harlem Boys Choir vesion at Epcot for the special Holiday Illluminations ending.
