i move in to the dorms tomorrow.

I am almost 38 years old and I would LOVE to go back to my college days!! It really is the most fun you will ever have!!! There is always something new and exciting to do, new people to meet, etc!! You will have a blast!!! Please post on here how you are doing so maybe I can relive the college days through you!!! :teeth:

Here is my standard First year student advice....and it is really good IMHO!

1. Join something right away - involved students are more likely to stay in school

2. Make sure at least one faculty member knows you this semester - make an effort. If you do this every semester you'll have 8 great recommendation letters later!

3. Think of school like a 9-5 job. Between those hours (with 1/2 hour for lunch) if you are not in class be somewhere working or studying. I promise that for the most part - if you work steadily between those hours that your evenings will be yours to do with as you will and your grades will be great!

You'll love it.....just give it time!! Some great advice here about joining things or getting involved! Have fun! :)

I must admit I cried when I moved into my dorm room because it was so small and I brought way too much stuff, but I ended up loving it!!! You really get the best of both worlds. You can still go home and visit your family, but you get all the fun of living in a dorm. Sometimes there's too many people and it's loud, but there's always someplace to go where you can study (sleeping may be a problem though). Remember, to have some fun. Come back and let us know how you're doing! Good luck!!!

Are you going to Ohio State? My supervisor's dd is also moving in there tomorrow. Hope all goes well!

Spam, you will be just fine! You'll have so much fun in the dorms and will meet lots of great people. I met most of my nearest and dearest friends in the dorms.

I feel for you SPAM, I really do - come this October I'll be doing the same and I just don't feel ready :(

My DD is living at home while going to OSU. You will love it! Have a great time! She has already met so many interesting people from everywhere!
Her fave is someone from Africa, that studied in England and then came here.
She is still dumbfounded as to why someone would want to come here to study!!

OSU is a good school, you will do great!!

GO BUCKS! :cheer2:

ack i dont want to. i like my house. i dont want to go to college. lol.

tell me everything is going to be okay. please?

Living in the dorms was awesome except for when you had the rare jerk who made life miserable for a whole floor. Usually identified as being the loser with poor grades who brought his or her stereo speakers out in the hallway at 1AM, and turned them up loud during finals week.

You grow a lot living in a dorm if all goes as it should. And not just the freshman 15 that you put on. :rotfl:

College is sooooo fun! DH and I are seriously thinking about going back to college when we retire in about 20 years.

My advice:

Try to eat healthy and get regular sleep.

Go to your classes. I skipped waaaay too many 8 a.m. Physics classes my first semester and it made my life much more difficult. Would have been totally better if I had gone to bed at a decent time and gone to class.

Introduce yourself (exchange phone numbers, etc.) to at least one person in each class in the first few weeks. That way, you'll have someone you could get a copy of notes from if you get sick and/or have a study partner.

Try new things. There are so many different opportunities at college -- if you hear about something that sounds like fun, try it! I took a weekend rock climbing course through the rec center, rented camping gear from the rec center, took flying lessons at the local airport, took swing dance lessons, played soccer through the rec center -- basically had a blast.

Oh, if you party (and you probably will at some point), go with a party buddy. Go to a party with a good friend who will make sure you "go together, leave together", avoid leaving your drink unattended (could get spiked), and don't give out your last name or room number to members of the opposite sex you've just met. Also, know your limits and don't drink excessively. (Not to freak you out, but there's a pretty high incidence of date rape at colleges.)

Enjoy yourself! College is so much fun!

thanks everyone, i'll let you know how everything goes later.
