I miss the old Community Board

Heaven forbid this place be "nice". Oh the horror!

I like nice. Nice is good.

Nice is good. So you click on a nice topic. The reason I started this thread was because I do miss the debates that were on here. I don't go to any other public forum. This was the only place I knew. I never walked away from this board thinking I didn't want to come back. All I'm saying is I miss the board the way it was. Nice is always good but sometimes you have to take a walk on the wild side. That keeps life interesting.

Nice is GOOD but why is it not nice to have an eduacated debate with someone of opposite beliefs. I agree personal attacks were not nice but just because a few jerks who could have been easily banned were unkind that did not mean those of us who like to debate should be penalized. Debating is an actual extra curricular activity in some colleges and high schools.

I miss the Certain Person Hates Animals thread. It was hysterically funny and couldn't we all use a little humor? I many on both sides got a kick out of that one.

I still read here everyday, but I miss the days where I would rush home from work to see what I had missed. There are many days that you can catch up on the first or second page and not missed anything.

A separate forum was suggested but it fell on deaf ears. What is happening now is becoming scary, yet we cannot comment on it.

I used to read the political threads, but don't miss them. They were often petty and repetitive. Helping someone with a pet, PC, TV, plumbing, etc. questions is just as satisfying.

OP- Why not PM some of your old debate allies/opponents and find where they get their 'fix'?

I'm sure alot of people enjoy the topics posted but sometimes you like a little drama. That is what I miss.
If I want drama I'll turn on the TV and watch the professionals do it. I visit the DIS for planning a Disney vacation (or reading about other people's vacations).

I visit the CB to see what other people are doing in their normal, everyday lives; preferably without snarky undertones and hidden agendas. I just finished a five or six page thread that was soliciting opinions from salaried workers about how many hours they work. I truly enjoyed hearing about their experiences and mentally comparing them to my own.

I prefer the new CB. Snark is a dime a dozon on so many other message boards on the internet (not to mention the plethera of "reality" shows out there). I find the DIS CB to be a much-needed respite from all that melodrama.

Eh, they're just protecting their own interests and didn't want to end up being the target of some government watch list. Mwahahahaha:lmao:

This is the old CB. Once upon a time, all debate, political and cat-fight threads were relegated to the debate board.

I don't think it's a terrible thing to spend less time on here. There's RL out there.

But I miss the OLD old CB...back in the early days, with all sorts of people who have since moved on. It's never been the same since then.

I agree this IS the old CB! I don't miss those stupid fights and ignorant remarks for anything. Give me boring ANYDAY!!! :worship:

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

:banana:The debate board! Good times.

:wave2::wave2:

Haven't seen you around in a while

Give me a good old political debate over the Michael Jackson threads any day. I spend a lot less time on the DIS than before the change. On the plus side, I'm getting more work done on my sewing, machine embroidery, and photo editing.

I don't understand. What is this "real life" of which you speak? Out where? :rotfl2:

lol...

OT..I saw your signature..and had to go to that site... it's pretty cool.. I'm gonna start a thread for it :)

While I didn't necessarily like some of the threads that are now outlawed, it was nice to see the differing opinions. Many times if you go to a "political" message board it would be slanted to one side or the other. Here, certain posters were expected to defend their opinion to the high heavens, no matter what, but there was still a great base of differing opinions, which made it interesting to read/participate in.

The timing of the "NO POLITICS" was suspect, but the board owner is entitled to make restrictions whenever he wants. Members can choose to abide by those restrictions or move along to another board. The "no religion" part of the mandate seems to be forgotten. It seems there is no religion debate allowed, but you can "talk" about religion. As far as politics, there must be some type of alert that goes out when certain names are even posted, as part of a thread;) as those go away quickly!

I posted on that thread. I think the alert that went out was due to the racist comments one poster kept making.

If the issue was mentioning Obama, they could have just locked the thread instead of deleting it.

I didn't see that one..

Generally before, I stayed clear of the political threads because I'm not a very political person.. I visited a few on occassion, but I wasn't as passionate as some, so guess thats why I never got my feelings hurt. It seems that was happening alot
I think there should be a debate board for those who want the headache :headache::laughing:
But..that said...doesn't matter to me either way :flower3:

I wish we could have a debate board on this site? Maybe someone would consider this?? I have know idea how this board runs and the politics behind it but it would be something to think about. I have no problem with the threads that are posted but alot of the topics I could google to find the answers.

Yes..you could google for answers...

but here, you get opinions and experiences... I like that aspect :goodvibes

It's like adult conversation about trivial things for those of us who dont' have other adults around at the moment to talk to...

I wouldn't mind a 'debate' board, and I know I wasn't the only one during the election and the months that preceded/followed it begging for a 'political' board. I can't tell you how relieved I was to come to the boards the day after the change and not see ever other thread being something political and nasty. To me, the community board is candy and I like it much better this way.
