I Misjudged My Orange Tree!

No!! It's not a sour orange tree. I just didn't let the oranges get ripe enough. I was judging when they should be picked by seeing what the groves were doing. Evidently different trees ripen at different times and when I saw a truckload of newly picked oranges go by yesterday, I thought I'd give the few oranges on our tree another shot. What a happy surprise to find them sweet and juicy.

So now I'm sitting here drinking fresh squeezed OJ from my own tree. Way Cool!!

Didn't they make some people cut down their trees, due to disease? I am glad to hear not every tree suffered that fate.

Only if they were infected with citrus cankor and quite honestly it does nothing to the fruit or the taste just that the oranges look bad and it will spread from tree to tree.

An idea for you.........I don't have orange trees just 4 grapefruit trees, so I squeeze the grapefruit and freeze them in plastic, then when it sets I dump it out of the plastic and put back into a zip loc bag, this way I have "fresh" juice all summer long, I even put some in ice cube trays to add to ice tea, or kool aid. I usually end up with enough to last me until the next "season" and even give some of the fruit away.

That's a great idea. Because I thought the oranges were going to continue to be awful, I've been throwing them away for weeks now. Next year I'll be better informed that this particular tree doesn't rippen until April.

We have the same thing here. SOmetimes it is just a slow season. Last year the lemons were done by late Feb. We are just now picking lemons and it is late April. WIth oranges, some trees are ready for picking in Dec and others are around March/April.
