I gave her this letter last night. I wrote it during lunch at work.

To my dear daughter,

In a couple of weeks you will be going into middle school. I can’t believe how fast time flies. It seems like only yesterday you were just a little baby. I want you to know that you are the light of my life and I love you more than I could have ever imagined. You will always be my baby even when you’re 80.

The next few years are probably going to be rough for us. You will become a teenager and forget that you have a mom. We will probably argue about stupid things and might even say things we don’t mean. It’s important for you to know that no matter what I love you more each day. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you and your happiness.

During these difficult years there are a few things I want you to remember.

1.) You are beautiful and if anyone ever tells you different they are wrong.
2.) You are very intelligent; use it wisely and apply it to your school work and everything you do.
3.) You are loved very much by your family and that will never change.
4.) Treat others the way you would like to be treated. It is an old saying but it is so very true.
5.) Always do your best and you will be successful.
6.) Hold you head high and be proud of the person you are.

I know these things may seem like common sense but somewhere along the line we all seem to forget them sometimes. I want you to remember them always.

Even though I’ll miss you being my little one, I’m looking forward to the young woman you are becoming.

I love you with all my heart and soul!

Love always,

Mom

After she read it she put it on the bulletin board in her room.

You made me cry... that was absolutely beautiful :goodvibes

More parents should do things like that! How positively nice!

That was beautiful. My DD is starting HS and I'm thinking of making up a letter for her too. Great idea!

Well, you made me cry, too. :teeth: Now I'm inspired to write one for my dd, too.

you made me cry too.

We're in the same boat my ds is going off to middle school. Youve inspired me Jules.

Yes, you have inspired me too!!!!! I also have one starting middle school. I do believe I will work on a letter for her now!
How precious!!!!!!!!!!!!! :goodvibes

I am sitting at my desk and crying! That was so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Amazingly beautiful and accurate. I would have that framed to either sit on her nightstand or bureau or to hang on the wall as a constant reminder.

Nice job Mom!!

Beautiful letter! Thanks for sharing.

What a wonderful letter. I love how positive it was and I hope she remembers what you wrote when a neg. issues affect her live in the years to come.

That is beautiful and I have tears in my eyes.

My mom wrote me somthing similar when I graduated HS. It was touching and I love her for doing it.

You are a great mom!!

What an amazing letter. I love that you have such a great relationship with your daughter to write something like that. Good luck to both of you with the Middle School years. :grouphug:

Just beautiful!
My DD17 is going into her senior year in HS......headng for a different transition...
you have inspired me to begin a letter to her...
Thanks!!

:thumbsup2

I hope you don't mind, but I shared your letter with my sister. My niece is going to be 13 in October and I thought she would appreciate it.

Wow. You and I are so much alike...it's scary. After listening to Felicia Rashad on Oprah yesterday, I sat down and wrote my DD10 who is about to enter MS a letter almost identical to the one you wrote. It isn't quite finished--but you have motivated me to finish it NOW...

Thanks for sharing!
