I made a duct tape FE

Just wanted to add that I was in Tractor Supply Co. this weekend to pick up animal feed for our farm & they had a huge bin of patterned duct tape in the front of the store right as you walk in the door.

DS can't wait to make one of these for our April cruise!

Cool. I'll have to check them out next time we go and see if ours has any.

Thanks so much for the idea! It was super easy to make and I'm very happy with how mine turned out!!

Oh wow! These are amazing! Thank you so much Daniellenbella for your inspiration and instructions! This is a perfect alternative for non-sewers, and I bet more DHs will be involved too!

Cute! What material are the red & black parts? Are those duct tape sheets?

Thanks! I used "oilcloth" which I came across at a small local hardware store. They sell off of big rolls here, by the meter. Most people use it for table covering. When I saw the two rolls with the dots, it just screamed "FE" to me! I cut the pieces from the oilcloth and then used duct tape to fasten and trim everything. It went really smoothly!

THANKS! Love yours, too!

ok. I am really bad at this. How did you make the pockets?

I took a paper grocery store bag and cut it and folded it the way I wanted the pockets to turn out and then taped over both sides and then taped it to the FE.

Sorry it took me a few days to get back to posting about the pockets - it's been Purim here, our big dress-up Halloween sort of holiday, so it got busy! Here's how I did the pockets:
First I cut 12" X 6" pieces out of my oilcloth, as per this plan (ignore the picture after the folding; it's not completely correct):

If you're using paper and duct tape, cut the same out of your paper and then cover it with duct tape.
On the back, I made 4 marks, at 2", 4", 8" and 10" from the left edge.

Because I used oilcloth, I taped the upper border of my pocket with some duct tape BEFORE folding, just to strengthen it.
With this backside still up, I folded the 2" mark ONTO the 4" mark, then folded the top flap back again, along the 2" line, towards the left edge of big piece. Two folds. Then I did the same on the right side. 10" mark overlapping the 8" mark, then fold the top flap back toward the right edge. Voila! To make it easier in the next step, I also fastened the folds with a small piece of tape that I'd later remove.
Turning the pocket over so the good side is up, I then taped the bottom of it to the front of my FE. The tape holds the folds in place. The top folds are then free to fan out and make the pocket.

I placed each pocket 2" above the previous one. (Don't forget to remove those little pieces of tape inside that helped hold the folds!)
I started taping the lowest pocket and worked my way up.
Hope this helps!!:goodvibes

This is absolutely terrific! My 8 year old loves everything DUCT tape! I can't wait to show him! Thanks for sharing the details!

Bumping this up - there has been some "chat" about making duct tape FEs on other threads, so maybe this will be of interest to those folks...:goodvibes

I'm going to bump this once again for a couple of people on our cruise meet who were looking for it!

These are precious! :goodvibes

My DS came to me last week and said he wanted to make one for us. This is such a great idea. He loves his duct tape and making stuff and he gets to feel like he has put something into the cruise. My oldest DS put together the FE gifts.

Subbing :goodvibes

My DD is soooo into Duck Tape crafts right now! I see this being a main Easter Basket gift for her and I'll just have to show her this thread and put her to work! :thumbsup2
