I also say "I love you" to my DH every morning before he leaves for work & my 7 y/o DS before he leaves for school (& bedtime) ...no matter how much we've been fighting for him to get ready! My DH says it back but my DS does NOT. That hurts my feelings but hopefully he feels it, even if he doesn't say it. My DS does say it to his baby brother though, so I know he's capable....

I certainly hear it plenty from my DD, coupled with "I Love You Mommy" pics that she draws but, I really only say it back to her, no one else.

I think it's just as important to HEAR those words as it is to SAY those words! jmho
