We've had anything "Harry Potter" programmed into Tivo since we got it for Christmas. It catches things every once in a while. Well today it caught an HBO special preview of Prizoner of Azkaban! :jumping1: I would never have seen it if it wasn't for Tivo! Gotta love technology. Gotta love Harry Potter even more! :wizard:

Living without Tivo is like living without caller ID. Once you've had it, you can never go back! ::yes:: I can't stand it when I go my mom's & watch real time TV. :hyper:

MagicalMom - I totally agree! There is no way TIVO is leaving this house!

I would rather give up my cell phone then my Tivo!

I'm with you, I LOVE our Tivo. We've had it for almost 3 years and now I feel so annoyed when I actually have to watch a commercial and can't FF it! There are so many people who have never heard of Tivo, it suprises me. Tivo rocks.

I'm thinking of getting this for DH for his birthday (this weekend!). Do I get it at Best Buy? As I understand it, we need to subscribe for a monthly service? or is it yearly? Who do I contact about that? DH usually figures these things out. I know he wants it - I figured I'd surprise him with it. Any help?

We have DVR service from our cable provider. It's just like TiVO but it comes inside the cable box. I don't know how we got along without it before. :)

TiVo truly is fantastic! It's one of very few things I own that actually live up to all the hype about them. I get so frustrated when I have to watch normal TV now, LOL!

This is going to depend on what type of service you have right now. Do you have Direct TV, Cable, etc.

If you have Direct TV, then yes you can go to best buy and buy one for $99. You have to activate it within 30 days and it's just $5 more on your bill. Not sure if you can do the lifetime Tivo charge with Direct TV. If so I think that is a $250 one time fee for the rest of that Tivo's life. :teeth:

I LOVE my TIVO! Sometimes I start watching TV in the family room (TIVO is in our bedroom) then I go to pause or rewind the last scene and forget! Then I have to run upstairs and start watching it from there. I love that machine!

hmmm...we have Comcast Cable. Can I still use it with cable?

has comcast come out with "on demand' in your area yet? I think it may be 'included' in your cable package.

it's similar to Tivo...not as advanced in my mind though....but you are able to hook up a tivo to any cable/satellite provider I believe.

We just got "on demand" - but it's just a few series on HBO & SHO. I haven't looked too closely at it though. DH gets home from work after a lot of sporting events have started. Could I "tivo" it and then, when he gets home, he could "start" watching it from the beginning, even if it's not done yet?

See - that's the thing about comcast - it's only a few things (like Soprano's or other series things..) you can't pick what you want.

And with your example - YES! That's the beauty of it! You could start recording it and your DH could come home well after it has started and start watchign it from the begining - AND be able to fast forward through the commercials!

It's like that "set it and forget it" roaster - I just "set" my tivo to record all these shows once - gilmore girls, the oc, what not to wear, CSI, CSI:Miami, Survivor, Friends, etc... and it just does it for me every week.

with my system I can record one channel and watch another - and I still have the ability to 'rewind/replay' on that channel i'm watching.

We have "on demand" service through Time Warner Cable, but that's a little different from DVR service. I'm not sure if Comcast offers DVR service, as we don't have them in this area.

"On Demand" service gives you a menu of shows that you can watch any time you want. We have "On Demand" channels for HBO, Cinemax, etc., and also A&E, Travel, Food Network, etc. You can also get pay-per-view movies on demand as well.

DVR service is completely separate. It works similar to TiVO, i.e. it's basically a big hard drive in a box. You can set it to record all episodes of a show, save them, and watch them later. Time Warner offers it for only $5 extra a month, and you don't have to pay for the box, since they include the hard drive in the cable box-- you simply take your box to the cable office and swap them out.

I really want satellite, but we live in an apartment and we're not allowed to install a dish.

Garrett..

Listen to me buddy, it is time to buy a house. Just so you can get a Satellite and Tivo!:teeth:

I bought a Tivo in March after my VCR messed up twice and didn't tape shows that I had programmed. The tape advanced, but there was nothing on it. Anyway, now I am a confirmed Tivo fan--so much so that about two weeks ago while I was driving to work and listening to the news on the radio that I reached for the dash to "rewind" the radio, because I had missed something that the newscaster had said. I forgot that there isn't a Tivo on my car radio too!

We have Tivo in the living room and watching tv in the bedroom is so frustrating! It's so bad, that we are actually thinking of getting a second TiVo for upstairs!
