We booked 5 nights at the DLH in August (we usually stay at the BWPPI but we're going with another family who wants to stay at the DLH). Not being APs, I figured what the heck, and figured I'd live with paying the $300 per night. Since we have about $1K in Disney Rewards, it's not SO bad, right?
Both our boys are going, but not my husband (he has to stay home with our very aged dog, long story) - my MIL will be going, and she's a great sport.
Booked one room through DL.com - $1,725 for 5 nights, including tax. They charged it all to the credit card at once.
Well, after reading another post on this board, it occurred to me that I might be able to get the senior discount since MIL is going. I called DL; the lady first had to check if the senior discount was available (it was!) so instead of $300 a night, the rate is $210! Woo hoo! She had to cancel my DL.com reservation (no cancellation fee) then rebook at the senior rate. She even asked if we wanted 2 queen beds or 2 queen beds and a daybed - I took the latter, since DS8 is almost 4 feet tall - with him on the daybed and DS6 sharing a bed with my MIL, I'll have a bed all to myself.
Then I asked which tower - she said that since we had the standard view, it would be the two outer towers, not Dreams. I asked how much to upgrade the view and get the Dreams tower - she said it would be $249. Still less than the original $300, so I upgraded. Plus, they won't charge your credit card like DL.com does.
I'm so very excited (this is the first time we're staying at the DLH). Upgraded view, and for less than full price (not as good as AP rates, but I'm okay with that) and the kids are going with their best friends - I can't wait!
Thank you DIS boards!
