I love credit cards so much!

I understand...yet...I don't understand. :worship: I don't think there was a hold before but now it seems like there is? Isn't a room paid before you stay in it, thus bringing your hold back to $100. Has no impact on me, but may with people that use those things...um...what are they called?? Oh...Debit cards!
I guess it probably won't affect us, but I'm not sure. I'm just kind of confused on the whole wording of it

I pulled the trigger on a Disney GC. At this point it doesn't look to have tracked for me. What is it with me & Staples & RMN?!?
Our reasoning behind not getting more Airbnb cards is because I'm worried enough using the ones we have with Airbnb. It sounds like using gcs through them is like going through hell in back and too many people have been left not being able to use their gcs at all. I don't want to buy a ton of gcs and be stuck not being able to use them. I would be pretty mad if that happened.

Pretty much, yeah, as soon as we all hop aboard the grAAvy train, it will stop being useful for Disney. But gotta try, right??
Too bad we couldn't have used it on this January trip. I say idk when we will go back after Japan, but we all likely know there will probably be a last minute trip sometime lol

I guess I don't understand

This sounds like it’s going to make paying room charges with gift cards a mess. I barely remember to go to the front desk the night before check out to pay off all the charges, now it sounds like I’d have to go daily, if not more to prevent the charges from going on the cc on file. I know the cc charges can be refunded if paying with a gc instead...it just seems like it would be a hassle to have to do that each time.

The less they reverse, the better. Mine got screwed up before. Since then, I tend to go every two days and bring my balance back to $0 with a gift card.

I'm not exactly 100% clear on it either. There is a dedicated thread and apparently people are stating they've arrived at Disney with room only reservations, haven't paid the balance in full, left from their trip, and then finally been charged and paid for the whole room (besides deposit) up to 7 days later? The reason being the system sometimes defaults back to old payment methods that are not valid so Disney is potentially losing out on money. I have never had this happen and always pay off my room only in full prior to arriving.

My main concern was also paying with gift cards. If the max charging cap is lifted because Disney will just keep authorizing $100, $100, $100, etc, I guess it could technically be easier and you would not have to pay off the room as frequently. I am a night owl and run to the desk every night when its slow and pay my balance off. I just like keeping track of every single purchase on the room folio and doing 1 big swipe.

I guess I will find out how it goes in March.

We always pay our trip in full. It makes me feel better going into my trip knowing the room is paid for.

As far as using gift cards, we always pay in one last amount at the end. Is that bad to do?

I believe Disney has thresholds in place to automatically charge the card on file once you hit a specific amount: value - $500, moderate - $1,000, and deluxe - $1,500. At least that is how I was operating. I could easily charge $300/$400 a day depending on my party size or what we purchased that day so I always just paid off the room pretty much every night. Now that I do split stays its not really as big of a concern, but I prefer taking 5 minutes to swipe my GC rather than having to work with the front desk on a refund.

I know MDE is very buggy, but maybe the next feature added should be paying off your room with a gift card or CC via the app rather than waiting at the front desk. I would very much appreciate that enhancement!

Did you get a mailer? I don't need one for the first one, right?
I’ll find a way to secure one when the time comes ;) none needed the first time tho :)

Wait what, is this new? I would be hesitant, though, because I could see them getting taken off after we get an AA card lol
New to us I guess. Somebody in a private churning group I’m in started talking to me about it. Luckily I have 2 backup plans for AA miles...Hawaii someday or Disney gift cards (admitedlt at a pretty terrible value, but given they cost nothing to acquire via the grAAvy train, it’s at least a backup plan).

By that same logic, the SPG Biz and Personal are worth keeping for the 35,000 Free Night if you can find a hotel worth >$95/night, and that’s not hard to do.

That’s my thinking too. I was able to use several 25K night rooms that were well over $95. I just don’t know if it’s worth hanging onto both the Lux and the Biz. My DH still has his Marriott. Maybe we’ll keep them all for the next two years while DD is still in college and we need the hotel nights.

You weren’t talking to me, but when you put it this way, maybe I should keep the SPG Biz. At least for another year.

You and me, girl, in the same boat :) As usual lol! I have the spg pers up this month (for dh) and his spg biz in March and then my spg pers and biz right behind those. I spent some time looking at resorts today that we could use the free nights at. There are lots of lovely options but most of what comes up on the blogs are int'l locations. That just isn't the season of life our family is in right now. I'm leaning towards cancelling the cards but I'm not wanting to get on Amex's bad side so really trying to find a valuable use for the FN certs so I can justify keeping the cards open for at least another year.

DH and I each currently hold and SPG Lux, SPG biz and Marriott Premier. We have never had any issues using the FN on each one at properties that cost over $95/night. So we have 4 35k point nights between us and two 50k point nights. Mostly we use them around WDW for a weekend. This year at our card anniversary we will be using the SPG Lux FN for the first time but we had already determined that it can be used for a staycation at beach side Marriott that is 15 minutes away from home during times when the room night is over $450. A two night stay over New Year's Eve there is $656/night but still 50k points. So this one won't be a hardship to keep either.

We've never used our FN certificates for anything international but they always come in handy for quick mostly unplanned getaways. We decided to go to WDW over Valentine's Day to forget about a certain "rite of passage" medical procedure I'm having for those of us who turn 50  :drinking1:sick: :faint: ... the joys of aging. Anyhow, only the Friday night was available for a DVC booking and we are wait listed for Saturday night. However, we were able to secure Saturday night with a FN certificate in case the wait list doesn't come through.

Is at least two months the recommended wait for another Chase Business card? I was approved for CIU on 11/20. Really want to get started on CP and apply for SW Biz but don't want to push it. I know three months should be safe.

It probably does help with auto approval...along with reducing CLs...When was your last Chase application before the CIU...but you should be fine 1/20

@calypso726, you have the Hilton Aspire, right? How long did it take to get the free weekend night after account opening? I'm at about 4 weeks, and I'm assuming it will take the full 8 weeks to get it (which is no big deal).

I don't think mine did either. I thought I went pending pretty quick after purchase last time and nothing pending now. At least I used up my last 30% Chase offer.

Does anyone know if a Netflix Giftcard has any weird restrictions? I once bought a Spotify GC and you could not use it on a family plan, which I still can't figure out why that would be a restriction, but now am leary of buying certain GCs. Just looking what I can do my last Staples offer on and thought I would try to use the RMN offer online with it. I don't really see anything else I might need. Maybe Target, but I still have a bunch left from the buy $300 for $270 deal awhile ago.

I used a Netflix GC on our regular subscription with no issues (other than when I peeled off the sticker on the back instead of scratching it, some of the numbers peeled off and it was hard to read). But once I got the right numbers, it applied it to our subscription just fine.

I'm not sure I totally understand the impact of the change, but it seems it would have more to do with placing a hold on your card rather than when they actually post the charges. Holds can be a problem if you don't have much room left on the credit card you are using or if you are using a debit card, but would likely NOT be an issue with folks on this board who are generally operating at the low end of their credit lines. I generally wind up having them charge my card for the whole amount, then go to the desk and have them reverse the amount I'm paying by gift card. The last couple times I have been have been a mix of work/pleasure (yes, I feel lucky that I get to go to a work conference at the GF!), so when I'm breaking out my expenses for work, I have to break out the bill between personal/work charges. If there are multiple payment methods on the bill as well, it gets super confusing. Easier to just do a swap to a gift card at the end.
