I love credit cards so much!

One thing that sticks out to me as a point of vulnerability is my in air Chase SW app on Dec 3. Maybe its just coincidental that the first breach was my Chase CSR card 30 days later, but a credit card app over an unfamiliar WiFi sure seems iffy but I don't know how this all works. Obviously I would make a horrible criminal. Lol

That is the one thing I worry about when I'm traveling. Using my laptop in hotels to access sites where I'll use my credit card, such as booking a room.

I have notified:
  • Equifax
  • Transunion
  • Experian
  • Innovis
  • Chexsystems
Everything went smoothly except Equifax whom I contacted first and by phone. Customer service sounds like it is India so very difficult to understand. After taking my info I was instructed that I need to establish an account on line. No go, resulting in a second call to a second hard to understand person who was unable to help me and her first response was try logging on later. Umm yeah, that's the best solution. So now I wait for IT to contact me.

I have read online I should file a police report, contact Social Security, the IRS and the FTC. (???)

Thoughts, ideas, any other agencies I'm missing? Boy I need a BIGGER glass of wine.

Thanks @wendow. I just have this nagging feeling that whoever has my ss# isn't done using it quite yet. :worried:

You should definitely call your police non-emergency number and request to file a report on it. Ask them to provide you the report number as well.

Not sure what state you're in, but my state attorney general's office runs an identity theft division where you can also find resources to help you there. Our agency will even issue a card for you to carry in your wallet stating that your identity has been stolen (more useful in the extreme event that you're pulled over by the police and "you" have a warrant out for your arrest).

Have you tried II Mulino at the Swan...we’ve gone there a few times and love it

We used to stay at Swan a lot and we would eat at the restaurant they had prior to Il Mulino and we loved it. Name is gone from my brain of course, but we always went for Easter and had their brunch even while staying at BWV. Son would sometimes babysit my younger daughter and he would do it if allowed to order room service (He is 8 years older than darling younger daughter). That gave me the opportunity to go have dinner with my internet group of ladies at Flying Fish or Yachtsman Steakhouse.

The other S/D restaurant that I really love is blue zoo. It's been a while since we were there but it was excellent and far above what Disney was offering at most of its restaurants with a few exceptions.

You've gotten some great suggestions already. The only real issue is this is an expensive area - it seems like there are more huge luxury boutique hotels and fewer values.

I would suggest the JW Marriott Essex House. It's a very nice boutique hotel that tends to be a little cheaper than the rest. Avoid the Park Hyatt. It's ok, but it's not worth the astronomical rates they charge.

If you're looking for slightly more value-oriented options that are still very nice, the Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Central Park, Courtyard New York Manhattan/Central Park, and Hilton Garden Inn Central Park South are all just a couple blocks away from Carnegie Hall. Don't venture much further downtown unless you go all the way on the other side of Times Square. Otherwise, you're just into Time Square and it's a constant madhouse. There are nice hotels (Marriott Marquis, DoubleTree Suites), but a lot of bad ones too (The Manhattan, Hotel Carter, The Wellington).

There are also lots of good options in Midtown East, but it's a further walk to Carnegie Hall, so it just depends on what you want. Intercontinental Barclay, The Lexington, and Hotel 48LEX are all good options there.

Pre-churning days, I used to love going on Hotwire and researching the hidden hot rate hotels, and getting the best deal I could. I haven't done it in a while, but every so often I still look. If you're feeling lucky, look in the Central Park South and Rockefeller Center areas for anything over 4/5 rating with an above 4.5 TripAdvisor rating.

Thanks very much for the suggestions! I'll take a look at them later today :-)

@Mopedmom1 So sorry you’re having this situation thrust upon you. Must be nightmarish. I’m there are a zillion other things you’d rather be doing with your time, not to mention the stress involved. Hope today brings good news with getting things sorted out.

I used my Chase offer on my CSR for Walmart Grocery over the weekend. In my order we’re two large pkgs of paper towels. I wasn’t too happy to be delivered paper towels with rips in the plastic wrappers. So I filled out a survey they sent out right after my pick up stating that two of my items were damaged, and they credited me for the entire amount of the cost of the paper towels! It was over $40! I can hardly believe it. Now I’m wondering how that will affect my Chase offer. Because it’s too soon for it to have posted yet.

I was approved for the Southwest Biz card yesterday. Could someone tell me how long I should wait before applying for the Southwest personal card?

Have you applied for any other Chase cards recently ? If not you could try today...if not approved wait a month or two

Since it's a last minute trip I wasn't able to get the Storybook Dining at Artist Point, but I put in a Touring Plans reservation finder. We will need a backup though in case we don't get it. Anyone have any reasonably priced options for dinner at the MK resorts? We've done Ohana before.

Not exactly a MK resort, but we love the burgers at Geyser Point at WL. The seating area is outside, so just make sure it is a nice day. We have eaten at Trattoria Al Forno several times and thought it was good and reasonably priced for Disney. We also love the ice cream flight at Ample Hills on the Boardwalk.

Enjoy!!

The 20K MR referral on the BGR put me over the edge and I decided to get DH the AmEx Gold before the offer expires. Instant approval! Yay! He doesn't know it yet, but he's getting a rose gold card. I hope he doesn't think it's too pink?? No Credit Karma or Experian alert yet, and not for my BGR app either, so hopefully they were both soft pulls.

I guess my BGR is too new (just got it yesterday), so I didn't see the ability to refer. But was able to get it using DoC's direct link.

Sorry this is happening to you! What a pain! Good thing you caught it early though. Sometimes I wonder if the churning puts us more at risk..?

We enjoyed our time at the JW Marriott Essex house as well. Of course it was for DD's sweet 16 and Thanksgiving weekend so it was super pricey but so worth it to watch the Macy's parade from our room in pjs! The service was very good and it's a favorite memory for us. Easy to walk to Times Square and Central Park is literally across the street. Rockefeller Center wasn't too far either, nor was the Chrysler Bldg. It worked very well for our brief stay.

Southwest Question:

We've never flown southwest before.

I have enough points to book one way flights with points in my chase ultimate rewards account.

For two travelers, can we transfer the points to one southwest account and that person make the reservation so we are both on the same ticket?
Or do we need to transfer points to each southwest account and make the reservations separately?

Yes - you can make reservations for both people from one Southwest account.
