I love credit cards so much!

I have an AMEX Delta, and DH has an AMEX SPG (has 100,000 points on that SPG)
We are thinking about our next trip, which could involve some expensive airfare. It would be nice if we had enough Delta points to at least do a Miles-and-Cash.

My DH had cancelled his Delta card almost a year ago.
Has anybody here had any luck getting a new Delta card, with the intro miles, in this type of situation?
I know that these credit cards are really cracking down on holders who seem to be playing the perk games.

He does still have the AMEX SPG, so he hasn't cancelled out all AMEX cards.
I wonder if maybe he were buying an expensive Delta air-fare if that would make the more likely to do another approval when purchasing?
(Then he could buy his ticket when the intro miles post.)

Any insight would help!

I've successfully churned the Delta Amex gold. I had 2 years in between my card cancellation and new app tho. If you poke around, you can find apps without lifetime language. There's currently some targeted offers. Try here: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/ymmv...es-200-statement-credit-no-lifetime-language/

I needed another contract but I wanted to wait because I was annoyed at the 2020 point reallocation. Now I have to go ahead and buy or my points will be split into "usable for all" and "usable at the old only."

It is a first world problem of course. But it is sad to see so many changes like this.

Agreed, makes me worry for my contract price if I ever need to sell. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

Could you add on direct thru Disney? For smaller contracts it can make sense.

I am really behind and having a hard time getting caught up so you may have moved on...

I am in the midst of planning our Australia trip, have flights mostly finalized. I had the grand plan of transferring to Qantas, but I had to sign up for Qantas to be able to see point requirements. Once I signed up, I discovered that for the flights I was looking at anyway, the Qantas points required were waaay higher than AA. So my advice would be AA points for sure for Australia. (The flights are obviously on Qantas still, just booked on AA site.)

Most of the flights I have looked at internally have been 10k economy which I think is pretty good. We also got flights from NZ to Alice Springs (in the middle of Australia) for 15k which I was happy with too. Although we only fly economy so your situation might be different.

I would definitely suggest signing up for a Qantas account and playing around with it though because I was sort of surprised that the amounts seemed so much higher.

Wow. I was hoping I could turn MRs into a trip there, but I also have other places in mind as well, but I'm sad to see it's not easy to get tickets. I do have some AA miles, but not nearly enough.

I am so with you. Disney's greed is really bothering me. My dd18 is hoping to do DCP later this year. If she gets in, yep, we will be there. Probably a lot. If she doesn't, I have still promised one trip this year to wdw but I really want to branch out from Disney. I have no Disney plans for 2020, and I think I am actually very okay with that.

I feel the same way. The greed, the crowds, etc. is making it less magical in my eyes. We loved our DCL trip in Europe (still Disney touches, but we really got to explore other areas of the world) and I'd like to branch out even more. I'm still sad that what was once a $200-$300 annual pass is now something like $1500. It's just making it easier for me to walk away I guess. I'm thankful I'm not tied to Disney, and also thankful for all the wonderful Disney trips we took when my DD was little.

So cancel in a year. That’s our plan. In fact it’s this week or next we need to cancel.
I know, we just like to have the option to PC if we want, but we'll probably just end up getting it anyway. It really will help with our train tickets.

I really should start pricing out a trip to DLP or one of the Asian parks. Still Disney, and I'm not wanting to give them any money, but maybe we would get more out of it.

I loved DLR and felt there was more value simply cause you could go back and forth between the parks so easily, and stay at a less expensive offsite hotel so easily. I used UR's for our Hojo room but pretty sure it was like $200'ish a night for a room that slept 8, was newly updated very nicely, could see fireworks from our balcony and walkable to the parks. Find that at WDW. Ain't happening! I'm just floored at what WDW is trying to charge for the values these days :sad2:

With all the price increases at Disneyland pushing one-day, one park tickets to $104-149, I keep thinking what a value the Japan parks are with ticket prices to Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea running less than $70 per park/day, and with discounted tickets for entry after 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. My wife thought DisneySea was the coolest of the Disney theme parks she’s visited. I think the Tokyo parks have cooler/cuter merchandise and food too.

The trick is getting there and staying for free or on the cheap. But that’s why you’re building up your MRs, right? (MRs have great transfer options for travel to Japan.) You’ll find a lot of lodging options in Tokyo with Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt too.

I do have a nice stash of MRs in the making. Hmm, I guess I should start looking at how to get 6 people to Japan with MR points! No Hilton points but Marriott and URs. I actually think this would be so cool to be able to do this for my family. I think I’d completely blow their minds if I could pull this off!

Hi everyone, I've been gone for a little while, and have been trying to catch up. Happy 2019!

I just read on DoC that Amex Biz Gold's $295 fee is waived for the first year if you apply through a link (not applications directly on Amex). The T&C's don't show it on the offer page, but after you're approved and look at the card agreement you'll see it say $0 AF for the first year, then $295.

I used DH's link from his BGR (which I'm going to cancel soon after his AF posts) for 20K extra, and the offer is 50K for $5K MSR. Instant approval, yay! I missed out on the BGR on the night before the changes to the card went into effect (back when it was officially $0 AF the first year) so I'm really glad DoC reported this. It totally wasn't a card on my radar, but I was looking for a new card to MSR anyway so this works great.

I just opened a Chase checking and savings account to get the intro bonus. I initially funded them with my debit card and then deposited checks to each via the app to meet the minimum daily limits to avoid fees. I placed an external transfer to help meet the savings minimum since mobile deposit will not allow that much money in a month and now that I re-read the fine print it states "deposit."

Would my transfer from an external checking account be considered a "deposit?" I really wanted to avoid going to the bank if I could and was planning on making a second transfer this week. Am I reading too much into it, or should I just go to the bank one day and deposit enough and take my transfer money back?

A transfer is fine, that is a deposit. That's how we did it, opened with a couple bucks then pushed the balance from an external account.

Pretty nice, congrats!

Thank you for this! I saw the DoC post, but didn't realize there was a 50K bonus through referral. Just self-referred with my AmEx Everyday (only 10K, but best I have). Instant approval! 60K MR, $5000 MSR, no AF - I'll take it!

I couldn’t agree more. The Tokyo parks are amazing. I can totally see us positioning the points hobby for visiting the Tokyo parks every couple of years the way many here visit the US parks.

This is totally do-able. I’ve had the same thoughts for my family down the line.

Not true.

i recall reading something about that. Do u happen to know the reason?
Even the tickets are not allowed to be used there... but works at all other parks.

Anyways, I just applied for the Rose Gold Card, was weird that it asked me for additional AU cards before it told me i got approved.
got my card instantly. i can start using it tomorrow with Samsung Pay

Thank you! I would have never thought I needed AA points. I did check the UR portal and there were flights in economy for $737 nonstop for this Aug. I am trying to go as little in the summer as we can since when we went in July last time, it was a little cool in Sydney to enjoy and the wine country was pretty nippy.

We’ll probably drive from Sydney to Brisbane and then fly from Brisbane to Cairns and fly Cairns to Sydney. Last time we had someone coordinating and booking the trip for us since it was our honeymoon so it was a lot easier.

Yes but you've got to worry about the value proposition of your contract. The extra perks that you get with a blue card (direct) points don't mean much. Not being able to trade into all the properties is really a big value blow. As it stands Disney contracts are really worth a lot of money. Not like any other timeshare. Keep up with stuff like this and the points won't be nearly as valuable. That's problematic when it costs, say, $15k for a DVC resale. It's not like most timeshares you can buy on eBay for a buck. Really concerning stuff.

I'm going to chime in here. I think it's really concerning for some properties such as OKW and SSR and of course Vero and HH in off season. These are the 'last to book' properties. I would not be at all concerned if I were buying a 'near park' property such as BCV, BWV, BLT, GF, or even Poly on the resale market. These are the properties where people most want to stay. So, if I buy 100 points at BCV, who cares if I cant go to Riviera - didn't want it to begin with, sky gondola to Epcot or not. And, if I get OKW or SSR at a lower price and I'm prepared to stay there, I've still got a Disney property and possibly a good deal. I think the key is to get that small contract from Disney up front, and then buy where you don't mind staying. Or buy where you want to stay from get go, which is what has been preached for all the time I've been a member. I haven't read what they are saying on the thread referenced yet, so of to check it out.

DVC has obviously been good for the bottom line. And also, thankfully renting is allowed in the POS! No DVC point ever needs to go to waste with care and planning.

DVD's job is management and sales. This is obviously another sales tactic aimed at pushing the new resale buyers over the edge. And, it's a lesson to all - Disney is not the benevolent company or the happiest place on earth when it comes to stockholders and their bottom line.

Well, just finished MSR on DH's CSP. I went ahead and made a $1000 payment towards our Disney trip, which I'll cash out URs to pay. The $600 I cashed out in URs for our deposits has already credited. I guess this is technically a test run in seeing if cashing out URs towards your bill will still count as meeting MSR, but I don't see why it wouldn't since I still spent the $4000, I just used URs to pay my bill.

Once I get a little bit of work done, I'm going to apply for Amex Rose Gold. I guess I need to figure out how to self-refer.

As soon as I know for sure what I'm doing with paying off my student loan, I'll apply for Citi AA biz. Need the government to open back up first since I was planning on taking whatever my tax refund is applying that to my student loan via a credit card payment :sad2:

ETA: OH, also I got the fastest refund ever from Disney this morning. Canceled my magical rates last Thursday and received the confirmation emails at 7:30 this morning. At 8:00 I got an email from Amex that the credit for $394 was on my card! I'll hit up Staples to pick up GCs with that. Any limit on how many GCs Staples will let you buy at one time?

Thanks for reassuring me! I was definitely reading too much into it haha

I adjusted my DD at work to put $100 to Chase checking and it should hit this Friday (win!) I just want to complete both offers and forget about it until the bonus posts.

Ugh, I thought I was gonna get my companion pass this month, but I didn’t make it for my 1/2 statement so I’ll get it in February.

But my flight for March has only 6 seats left. I don’t want to transfer 8k ur to book the flight.

Can I book a refundable ticket and then change that to a companion ticket once I get it?
