I love credit cards so much!

So Disney cards now fall under 5/24? DoC seems to think so. FYI the premier is up to $250 in bonus now. I said it on DoC but imho $1 is not worth the hassle of downgrading! https://www.doctorofcredit.com/disney-premier-credit-card-from-chase-250-cash-signup-bonus/

Personally I’m really happy I have a Disney card & knowing what I know now I would even have taken a 5/24 slot for it. (I’m in a Disney park approx twice a year. And I always buy merch.) But still- YIKES! Disney cc becomes a much tougher call subject to 5/24.

I always start with the most recent posts and read backward, went back 5 pages and still have absolutely no idea what FIRE is!

My 3 kids are all out of college and self-supporting Yay! DH retired when the youngest graduated (he was 63 at the time). In laws were a great help with college costs.

No Marriott points from the game/contest for us yet either.

Go Browns!

Most likely, we have our own DP here, paging @striker1064

Confirmed denial :(

Yeah - Disney cards are now under 5/24.

Given the choice between $250 for the Premier (less $49 so net = $201) OR $200 for the regular Disney card...I'd take the regular one since I can at least generate support links from it in the future. That Disney card is one I have decent success with friends and coworkers I encounter in the non-internet world.

EXCELLENT point. I added it to my DoC comment lol ;)
ETA: omg I love it. Beat me by 3 mins. Off to edit in a shout out!

I CREATED A FIRE THREAD....
https://www.disboards.com/threads/the-intersection-of-fire-and-disney.3724231/

I figured...let's try it. It's always encouraging to discuss that with others while on the journey. I know we have a bunch of people here that are "in the game" so jump on there and maybe say hello.
Also - if anybody has any suggestions on that first post let me know. I tried to be welcoming but also set a tone for what it was about. I'd welcome feedback/tweaks if anything either came across the wrong way, too strong...or not strong enough ;)

I think it's a great idea, and I will follow along for a while, but I'm definitely not in the camp of people who are saving 50-75 of their income at this point, although we do hope to increase the percentage in the next year or two when we are done with tuition. Kids can be expensive. ;)

You could fit into what I called the "curious" camp, lol! ;)

That’s all you can do is try and book it and see what happens. After the stress of our wdw trip I like not having to plan anything ahead for Tokyo Disney. I am going to try to book dining ahead of time on the Japanese site but that’s it.

The cash rate for our Hilton room is $154/night. The normal king ocean view room is only $141. I wish wdw had those prices. I know it’s a Hilton but it’s still right there on the monorail loop

We had dinner at Megellan's in TDS and it was wonderful! I'd love to do that again.

Me too!

Yep, yep.

It's worth noting I went for it at 23/24, so mine probably isn't a good definitive DP. Pre-5/24 it's entirely possible Chase would have denied me anyway with those kind of stats. But Chase used to never be inquiry-sensitive at all on their personal cards, and with all the other DPs I've seen, I'm inclined to believe ALL Chase cards are now under 5/24. It's kind of a shame for things like the Disney cards, because if you're limited to 5, they really don't make any sense at all unless there's specific hotel chains and airlines you know you'd never use, so you won't get the card.

Also, I wasn't shut down for the application.

Yet.

I might also enroll his AX Gold in the AA program too and get another $100 this year for future use.

I enrolled my card in Southwest last week. Yesterday morning I finally took the time to buy my gift card and the site glitched out. Instead of leaving it alone, I closed it down and started again. 2nd time I successfully bought my $100 gift card and immediately got the email as I decided to get an egift card.

Later on I looked at my gold card account and I had been charged for 2 pending gift cards. No worries - no email for the first order. Until 5pm - got an email for the first order that did not process in the morning.

I was going to use the card for my son anyway, so he'll get $200 in SW gift cards which is okay. At some point he can use them to visit his Dad which is a Southwest trip.

We may start a 529 now since you can use the funds for private school which DS will be starting in the fall.

We've started multiple 529's for the 2 grandchildren as there was a matching $50 promo earlier this year. Free money! Aunt, Uncle, Grandparents and Mom and Dad. You can't have too many 529's. When the first one was born, I put the word out that opening education accounts would be much appreciated. Also, whoever holds the 529 gets to do the tax write off and controls it at least in Md.

o worries - I didn't take it that way. :-) I just like to carry forward the FIRE mantra that it doesn't take crazy six figure income to achieve financial independence :thumbsup2 One of the most common misconceptions about the FIRE movement is that it's only for people making $250k and such. While I will acknowledge that we have had a few fortunate events occur in the past 3-4 years, we were already well on our way towards FIRE (and still are) despite being a single-income household that has never had a six-figure salary figure :)

I've sort of always taken it for granted that FIRE people were living at a level of not quite a $250K earner. I will be interested in reading about FIRE, although I'm well past that point in my life. At one point I may have been in a similar to FIRE state, where I decided to shed myself of all debt. I was also then making that six-figure salary so it wasn't that difficult - I just had to stop spending. And, when I learned to stop spending, my net worth started increasing by default, with no real plan in mind.

hough I do wonder if a FIRE thread was started if the kooks wouldn't eventually give up, leave id the thread moved fast enough. That's what has happened here, just not sure how fast a FIRE thread would move. We're lucky they haven't really been in this thread, have left quicky or just get scared away

This thread is pretty daunting and requires work to keep up with it. I think a lot of people may read and absorb the info without joining in, and I think a lot of people may jump in and get drowned early and swim away to safety.

I'm kind of wanting to see/hear what will be discussed in the fire thread, but not sure if I'll have input.

Got home from Vegas around 2 a.m. my time. So glad to sleep in my own bed! As much as I enjoy travel, I do love getting home after being gone for several nights. Going to lay back down before I go into work at 1 p.m. DH went ahead and went to work at his normal time. Better him than me, lol.

Alos, there is an Amazon coupon on books right now:

Use promo code GIFTBOOK18 to save $5.00 when you spend $20.00 or more on Books shipped and sold by Amazon.com.

I just subscribed to the FIRE thread but I will probably just lurk. I haven’t been feeling great about retiring at even a normal age, but losing my job makes me feel like I never will. I am at or close to, the age some of you are planning to retire. I won’t be there for a long time. First have to find a job so we can pay the bills LOL. We done have a ton of debt, mortgage, two cars, cell phone, satellite, but it all adds up.

@striker1064 - Navy Fed sent me the email to get 10% off on visa gift cards with points. I have no/negligible points so I won't get any this year, but if you do have enough to get a gift card this is the time to cash in.

And, a funny little story: while I was in Lowes the other day, a young employee who had asked me if I needed help started having a conversation with me about credit card points. She was probably just under 25 and her mother had signed her up for a Navy Fed account when she was younger and eventually she got a NF visa. Just this month she learned that she had 'points'! Nice surprise for her and she was able to cash out for visa gift cards! I let her know that soon NF would do their 10% off promo and wait for it for next time. I didn't get into any other CC talk with her, but she was sort of pleased to tell me that she was working on making good choices. A nearby customer kept looking at me over her shoulder and smiling. I think he was also pleased that she was sharing her success and that I was listening.
