I love credit cards so much!

I have put a few hundred on a couple different AMEX cards of DH, and still got the pop up when applying for the Hilton Biz for him. I think I am giving up. Not a huge deal, but the points would have been nice. It's weird because I don't spend much more on mine, that isn't MSR and I had no issues getting it a couple of weeks before him.
I hate not having a MSR lol, especially when going out of town next weekend. Oh well, just biding my time until it's time to try to start working towards my CP later this fall.

Just know that anything you spend toward CP this fall won't count toward your 2019-2020 CP 110K threshold, in case you're counting on that.

This is how my att bill posts to CIP. It is for internet/directv. How does the att wireless post to amex for those of you who have gotten the credit? Does it specify wireless? If so I won't bother switching this over to amex. If not, I will give it a try!View attachment 355832

This is what mine looks like after i click on it. See above, not sure why my pic went up there.

it should code both as cable and wireless provider.
i was able to double dip last time when it had 10% back on cable and wireless bill on amex.

Hmmm... maybe I'll book that and an airport hotel... then if we stick with our original flight getting in at 11:30pm we can stay at the airport one as it won't matter. But if we take the earlier flight, maybe we'll stay there...

Honestly, if I were leaving the airport in a rental car anyways (since there is no onsite hotel), I would just go to the gulch hotel either way. It isn't very far at all from the airport. When you wake up you can walk to breakfast and entertain yourselves around that hotel. Then go back to the room to freshen up for the day before check out. The airport area is sketchy.

Let me commiserate.

I've got maybe two months worth of MSR left between my Biz Plat and DW's new CIU. The Amex Gold card would've been perfect for DW, now in retrospect with the waived first year AF and 50k MR bonus, and another $2k MSR to work on. I guess instead, I'll try to have DW get the CIC in 2-3 months.

I've been hitting MSRs hard for 2-3 months, and with Plastiq 3x dead, don't really like the idea of putting thousands in organic spend on cards that don't have MSRs to meet. But it might be a blessing in disguise because I've now got 8 open Amex cards, my wife has 2, and keeping spending up on all these cards enough to keep Amex happy, while trying to meet MSRs on other cards, has been very challenging. Now my wife got the pop up for it, and who knows if I'm on the blacklist next time I apply. :sad1:

This is how mine posted: AT&T*BILL PAYMENT 97DALLAS TX
We only have Internet service with AT&T. I guess technically there is a phone number attached on our HomeBase for the Internet service.
I wasn't sure if it had to $200 to get the credit or if they would have issued partial up to $200 so I just went with the $200 pre-payment to be safe and it worked like a charm. I just used DH's offer since mine worked.

:offtopic: I know I can get a quicker answer here than the discount board...thanks in advance....
Is there any way I can look up AP room discount availability before buying my AP? I am trying to decide on the timing of my purchase. If it helps me with a room for my dec trip then I will buy now. If not, I can wait...Thanks dischurners!
I don't think there's a way to see it before you at least buy the voucher. But if you have dates/resorts you'd like me to check I can :)

We will probably skip a rental car to skip the parking charges everywhere :crazy2: I was thinking if we stay at a sad airport hotel, we'd just head right to the Hyatt in the morning to drop our bags then start with the Country Music Hall of Fame, since it's right there. I think most of what we will do is downtown.

So I'm thinking that the 4x on dining and groceries with the updated Amex Gold might just spell the end for our blue cash preferred and Amex Everyday cards - need to free up some Amex slots for future opportunities.

If i have this right - keeping the BCP, maxing the $6k grocery category at 6x points and paying the $99 fee means an effective 1.667c of fee for each $ spent on groceries. Therefore reducing my cashback earn to an effective 4.33%. As I value 4x MR higher than 4.33% cashback, then I think the BCP has got to go.

Amex restricting the Amex offers to one per person across all cards has certainly changed the keep/close decision process on these cards.

I think your last statement is the key one for me. I've long rationalized holding the BCP because of the Amex offers offsetting the AF, but if I need to pick and choose which card I want to have an offer then I'm going to want to have the least amount of cards with AFs. Seems to me that Amex is in effect incentivizing churning (thousands of points! waived AF! statement credit!) and not encouraging cardmembers to hold on to multiple cards (Amex offers).

Let's see, with 4x groceries, the new Gold card would yield 100K MRs if you max out the $25K cap. To compare to BCP's cash back, as statement credits, that's worth $600 vs the BCP's $360 maxed out grocery category. If transferred to Schwab, it's $1250. [Note to self - need to get a Schwab Plat!]

Realistically I'm not going to reach $25K organically, much less $50K (since I got the card for DH too), since I don't even reach $6K organically due to CF or Discover offering 5% back during part of the year, and Costco. But I might MS if it makes sense to do so.

Since you're considering the AF on the BCP, the Amex Gold's AF is being bumped up to $250, but at least it's offset by a $100 airline credit and $120 dining credit to Grubhub, Seamless, Cheesecake Factory, Shake Shack, and Ruth's Chris.

This is how I see the Gold card. It’s a $30 card. The $100 airline credit will be used to buy AA gift cards. I view those airline credits as a forced savings account for AA flights. The dining credit will easily be used in full one way or another. So it’s going to be a $30 AF card that works for me.

True - but I was coming at it from the viewpoint that I was keeping the Amex Gold anyway - so the AF increase on that card was not relevant to the decision to keep or close the BCP.

Not even sure I will get that much use out of the new dining credit - maybe $20 - $30 per year. Probably means DW and I splitting the check if we eat at Ruth's or CF.

If the gift card thing doesn’t work then I will make Cheesecake Factory the go to place to have coffee and chat with my BFF every month.

Haha. You're not going to swing by the Cheesecake Factory or Ruth's Chris every month to buy a $10 gift card? That's what I'm planning to do -- or a slice of cheesecake. Nom nom. I guess it's a good thing my wife isn't getting her own card. She wouldn't bother.

This is my current plan. I will swing by Ruth Chris sometime next week.

My problem with it would be... I don't like Cheesecake or the Cheesecake Factory :duck:

Yeah - i would, but T's&C's say gift cards excluded so I guess I'll wait for some DP's on that

I can let you all know next week what it does when purchased at the restaurant. T&C for airline credit also excludes gift cards. But it still works for certain airlines at certain denominations.
