I love credit cards so much!

I got tired of replacing luggage every year and did some research on the brands that were recommended by frequent travelers. I wanted something that was durable, with great zippers, and with a super easy for wheeling about. I was pretty close to deciding on a Briggs & Riley carry on that was about $549. Since I'd never paid more than about $100 for checked bags I was having a hard time accepting the price tag. I also saw that many flight attendants and frequent travelers swore by the TravelPro Magna 2 Platinum carry on. Ebags had this one for $254 and I considered it a compromise. I now have it in checked size, domestic carry on and international carry on. Needless to say, I am quite happy with the luggage and anticipate it lasting for many years.
::yes::

I have this one in the rose gold color: https://arloskye.com/products/the-carry-on-polycarbonate

It was expensive but it has about 50K miles on it since January & still looks brand-new. Plus, I never need to look for an outlet at an airport again!

My brother, his wife and son do HHN multiple times and I can guarantee you there is no way I would be going! I saw a show once where they were hiring for some of attractions and it was things I would rather not see- people caged in with snakes and mice, no thanks! This is where I would take Disney and Not So Scary instead :)
HHN is too much for me. I am a fan of spooky, suspenseful, thriller-type movies. I cannot stand the "if it's bloody, it's scary!" trend. It's not scary. It's just gross.

Which would annoyingly make you pay the AF to get it, right?
Sounds like it, which is really annoying. I got the SPG Lux but don’t think its worth paying another $450 AF to get the 50K free night. Maybe if I also use the $300 credit a second time, then I’d essentially be paying $150 for the free night, but it’s still a stretch to make it feel like a good value.

Same. A big reason I got it was I was planning on spending the $300 I got reimbursed anyways, so I felt like I was getting 100k pts plus the free night for $150. I'm sure you could find somewhere that is more than $150 a night to use it, but I agree it wouldn't feel like a good value because it is very unlikely I would be paying that OOP for a room...

Has anyone found any good cat 1-4 Marriott redemptions for their 7 night package? I am looking at the first week in June or sometime in July and truthfully just randomly looking at places we may like to go. Right now I am looking at Boulder, CO or St. Louis. Could we entertain ourselves for a week in either of these locations?

It would appear so, since the AF posts at the end of a statement and payment is due about 3 weeks after statement close. Amex does not prorate AF refunds (unless you’re a MA resident). You have 30 days from the close of statement on which that fee posts to cancel your card for a refund. After that, the AF is non-refundable. I was worried about this when I saw the free night certificate would be deposited 8-12 weeks after your anniversary date.

However, Amex still gives prorated refunds if you downgrade an AF card. You’ll receive a prorated refund of the AF for your original card product but will also be charged a prorated AF for your converted card product. You can even then cancel the new card within 30 days of downgrading for a full refund of the prorated AF.

My concern is the SPG personal card likely won’t be around as a downgrade option when renewals for the SPG Lux come around starting next August.

DH went with his siblings a few years ago and a chainsaw guy followed my BIL around all night long. He would go in one of the safe spaces and the guy would wait until he came out. Ummm, no thanks!!
I’m equally horrified & laughing. Didn’t know that was possible.

Well, it’s not my cup of tea but I respect it is some people’s. I remember the shark tank company that ran HHN-like overnight camps so definitely a decent amount of people into it. (Decided to google up info to see if the company was still around- they are so I guess it’s working out. I was going to google “shark tank horror” but thankfully my brain kicked in before hitting enter and I added “company” at the end :sad2: )
ETA: oh! That would have been fine, it’s a shark CAGE that is dropped in water with live sharks. Need. More. Coffee.

Not credit card related but I know many of you fly.
I booked 2 round trip flights on aa. Tickets are now much cheaper. Do you know if I can get a refund or voucher for the difference?

No. The only airline that does that now is Southwest. Depending on how much money you are talking you could look into changing the ticket which will incur a cost of $200 per ticket for domestic routes or $750 for international tickets.

I’m way behind on this thread so don’t know if this has already been discussed. I got an email from PNC with an offer for a $15 bonus for paying 2 bills through their bill pay service by the end of the calendar month. You can pay individuals through it as well as companies, so I set up 2 x $150 payments (my $300 opening bonus posted last week) to my wife. We have the same mailing address so I’m not sure it will work, but I didn’t want to go through the hassle of changing any of my regular bills for one month just for $15. The email says the bonus can take up to 10 weeks to post after the payments are made, so I’ll probably have forgotten about it by then and wonder where the extra $15 in my account came from, lol.

I had the same offer last month. I paid two of my small CC bills (less than $100 each). No sign of the bonus yet, but I hadn't noticed the 10 weeks language so I guess I will keep waiting.

America's Christian Credit Union, looks to be a $625 bonus for $3k spend, must attend or be involved with a long list of christian/catholic churches or organizations to qualify for membership. Comments say they require you to upload a copy of your W2 or paystub. I'm hoping to see more DPs on this one personally before applying, my church is (shockingly enough) on the extensive list of denominations they'll approve for membership but I really don't want to waste a hard pull if they're just going to be like "you've opened how many credit cards?!"

Any ideas whether the direct deposit “owner” matters for these bank bonuses (any that require them). DHs DD paycheck is easily changed online. Mine is not. Just completed PNC for him, wondering if I can open an account in my name but have his DD into my account?

Haven't done PNC, but have done other direct deposts where I've sent DH's paycheck to an account in my name only with no issues. I'd expect it would work.

I’ve seen both shows, the Christmas and “houses” and they are AMAZING! Best spot to watch the show is to say you need to use the restroom and sit on the patio at the back of restaurant. Terrific view without fighting the crowd.

Cool!!! How do I figure out when the show will be on? We won't be there at Christmas time, but I was hoping for some kind of evening entertainment thing.

I need someone to hold my hand wrt Chase Pay.

Tomorrow I'll be going to Shoprite. I always use self-scan bc there are special registers for those with reusable bags. I know I've seen a sign promoting Chase Pay at those registers. How do I actually use it? I generate a QR code in the app? and then scan it...how?? With the little scanning gun thing?

I think I'm up too late :p

You do use the little scanning guns. Maybe they've gotten better, but at my SR back when chase pay first came out, the self checkouts didn't take chase pay. I was able to do my order, then had a staff person "suspend" the order and move it to a different register that had the right scanner. It took a couple of minutes, but worked. Hopefully the technology has all caught up since then (sometime this spring).

I'd vote for Boulder! CO is beautiful, and Boulder is supposed to be a cool town. I'm using mine in Lake Placid (not exactly an easy place to get to if you're flying in...)

Speaking of TSA pre-check, there has been a bus parked out front of the Coronado Springs Convention Center the past 2 mornings that is a mobile sign-up for TSA pre-check.
I took a picture and then remembered that it's been 8 years since I posted a photo on The Dis and I don't know how it works anymore haha.
haha, well I believe you even without the photo! Intriguing. I had no idea that was thing!

Man, I hope it's there in November! Haha.
