I love credit cards so much!

Not sure if this has been discussed but I saw that Discover now has a business card . Anyone have one or going to be applying for this card? Just wondering how are they with a "business"? Kind of easy going like Chase?

Got some unexpected hospital bills so not sure if I should go for this or a Sapphire.

It's the same as the regular Discover It, but despite being a biz card Discover apparently reports biz to personal credit. I'd pass.

Not only that they report but there's no sign up bonus so there's really no point to getting it when you could get a personal Discover with a signup bonus and the same double cash for the first year.

Speaking of MS my Walmart that I have been trying to hit twice a day(one in the am one in the pm) just turned me down for buying an MO with a giftcard. It was fine for me this morning so I went after and bought 3k more in giftcards. Really hoping I can liquidate them still...

No good. I had no issues yesterday at Walmart. Have you tried a different one?

Oh, I wish I could have done this to take advantage of the $60 credit on $300 Marriott spend or even the $100 credit on $500 Ritz spend, but my SPG Lux did not get targeted for either offer. In other bad news, I’ve been waiting on a Saks Amex Offer to stack with my MB Plat’s $50 Saks credit, and there’s one out there but my MB Plat was not targeted. It’s like Amex knows!

I got both the Saks and the Ritz offer. I thought about doing the Ritz offer via buying a gift card but gift cards are excluded. The Saks offer is on the regular SPG card.

The $60 offer was on both my SPG Lux and SPG personal. I added it and used it on my Lux. (not about to try doing it on both cards with Amex's increased scrutiny)
I think Amex knows also.

@Lain - Thank you for encouraging me each time to go for the SPG and Marriott cards. I don't regret applying for all of them. (Actually secretly wish I'd snapped for the Ritz!) Glad to have all those discounted nights! And going forward, the Amex offers will hopefully continue and help reduce the fees.

I’m inclined to agree.

Plastiq 3x kept me slow because I could count on a steady stream of 10k-15k UR every month from my CIP. That died. The addition of 48 month language on the Sapphire cards meant I won’t be able to PC my CSR in a few months and re-up with a Sapphire DD that would’ve netted me another 100k UR. Now the DD is dead. Chase is trying to improve their bottom line by reducing their rewards liability. These changes all make it harder to earn URs, and Chase also appears to be delaying the posting of bonuses, which makes spending URs harder too. So far, Chase is making cuts here and there; I dread the day they take an ax to the whole UR system and restrict card and household transfers.

Get what you need to get, or can still get from Chase, and move on.

Agreed. I’ll get the CSR for DH as soon as we’re nearing the end of SPG Biz MSR. I’ll PC my CSP to a CFU next month and go for the CIU in February. Might even pick up a CFU or CIU for DH next spring just so we can pick up a couple more cards. I’ve only been hitting Biz cards with citi, Amex, and Barclays lately anyways, so I think I can sneak those cards in with chase and be fine.

All this chase news has my head spinning...it's like some new anvil drops everyday...So, I think I understand it all. It's not JUST the Saphhire DD'ing that we have lost. We have lost the SW DD (personal cards) and the 4/24 DD. Could you still DD say a 5/24 card and a non-5/24 card? Not sure why you would want to other than to minimize the CR hits.

That Amex plat 100k offer is really calling my name. I haven't mentioned it to my dh, and he pretty much is fine with whatever I do, but that $550 AF is going to have him thinking I've gone off the deep end. I've gotta have a good spin

And after today's news... MIL got ANOTHER Platinum 100k mailer.

So I should start trying hard to pull that in Nov/Dec, yes? So I can triple dip.

What is the earliest you can get the plat and still be able to triple dip? I'm wondering how long my targeted offer will last. I still have MSR that I need to make more dent in anyways so I'm good waiting.

Don’t they know you have $32k in MSRs to meet?!

I do hope it’s just that one cashier. And if not, you have some alternatives.

Well, the one DP was a guy who apped the CSP and United on same day and he was only 3/24. They let him keep his CSP but closed his United. Wondering if he would have been fine to app it on different days? I thought that was a weird DP since it was not DDing on same family of cards and it didn't put him over 5.

I think we should talk more about SLOW Churning. I actually just have the exact opposite thought. We're no longer in a marathon - we're in a full out sprint and we need to run as a fast as possible as far as bonuses are concerned.

Tell me how you would work the slow angle. I'm definitely intrigued!

This is what "slow churning" looks like for me:
  • I started this hobby in March of 2016 with the CSP. That put me at 1/24 although I didn't know about that rule at the time. I had 5 other cards at the time - the Disney card, Amex (since 1989), and a few store cards.
  • I got the CF in July of 2016.
  • Still not knowing about the 5/24 rule I "re-oponed" and old Old Navy card in store to get a 40% discount. Turns out this counted as a new account. This was Sept. 2016.
  • In Jan of 2017 I got the Chase SW card (the one with the $69 AF).
  • In August of 2017 I bought a new phone and financed it at 0% through Samsung. Not sure if I knew about the 5/24 rule at this point. And as it turns out it shows up as a CC on my credit report. If I had known, I would have financed through my carrier - live and learn.
  • Sept of 2017 I got the Chase SW card (the one with the $99 AF).
  • Jan of 2018 I got the Discover IT.
DH was not interested in playing along until recently. He is now a reluctant player 2.
  • CSP in July of 18 putting him at 1/24 (had other cards but they are older)
  • Chase United Card in Aug of 2018.
Our next card will be the Chase United Card for me in the month of October. No plans for when we are adding anything after that, but I would like the IHG card. I may put new cards on hold for 6 months or more. I do not MS and just use my cards instead of cash or my debit card.

ETA::I think that because I am cautious and move slowly, I am not as affected by the bad news of the churning world. The spg/marriott merger had no effect on me whatsoever since neither was on my radar. The new 48 month rule stinks, especially if they do that with SW since I would like to always have a CP. This DD news stinks too but I probably never would DD anyway. I like to meet one MSR at a time.

There will always be a card for me to get that will have a travel reward that I can use and I am in no rush to get them all.

ETA: I guess what I am saying is that slow churning equals less disappointment and less stress as the rules change.

Maybe I shouldn't ask this "out loud" but curious on what exactly you do here. Do you buy MOs in your name every day? And from the same store? I am assuming you have to put a name on MO when you buy it, no clue here. And then deposit MOs into your bank account everyday?

This was our first foray into Chase cards, and I have to say at this point we are both unimpressed. :sad2: If they don't post the points after we gave them all that spend I'll be pretty mad.

I think we'll stick with AMEX since it's worked well for us so far.
Amex has done the same. People on this thread have had issues with Amex denying points after meeting spend. It sucks but it’s not limited to one or the other.
