I love credit cards so much!

RIP sapphire DD .jpg

I'm bummed for everyone whose immediate plans were ruined by this (especially for people who met the spend and are waiting on bonuses!), but secretly a bit relieved for myself. $8k is a lot of MSR to meet without MS or Plastiq, and now I don't have to sit on my hands for 6 months after doing a Sapphire double-dip. Now my only concern is if I should still structure my plans to try and get the SW Companion Pass or if that will be gone soon too! Argh, FOMO, or rather FOGSD (fear of getting shut down).

So with the new rules here my new plan:
mid-Oct 2018 - SW Biz <- 2nd business card
mid Dec 2018 - SW Priority <-First personal card 1/24
March 2019 - CSR <- 2/24
June 2019 - CIU or CIC (depending on bonus) <- This would put me at 5 cards in 12 months but just 2/24. Would downgrading or closing the CIP make it more likely I would be approved for more business cards?

After that, I'll evaluate the landscape and consider how to work in the other Ink and Freedom cards. I'll alternate with Amex biz cards as budget/timing allows - I guess this means I need to read up on how MR works.

Any other newbies/slow churners want to chime in about how your plans will be shifting? I'm hearing all the "take all you can, give nothing back!" talk which I am on board with in theory - but I *just* started, and I also want all these shinyshiny UR cards.

Well, the one DP was a guy who apped the CSP and United on same day and he was only 3/24. They let him keep his CSP but closed his United. Wondering if he would have been fine to app it on different days? I thought that was a weird DP since it was not DDing on same family of cards and it didn't put him over 5.
Right, I was kind of confused on some of the DP's also.

Not shifting my plans. My plan has always been one card at a time. Meet MSR then reevaluate which card to go onto next. I always have a list of cards I want but the priority sometimes changes. A few months ago I was seriously considering a Jet Blue co-branded card but that one has moved down on my list for various reasons.

I just found this thread in May, but I had the SW CP by opening a SW business and personal card and getting the bonuses in January 2018. My plan is similar to yours....CIP 5/18, CSR 8/18...planning on CIC, CIU, CF, CFU at 3 month intervals....Im also going to close the SW business card prior to applying for another business card

I saw that in the daily question thread earlier (https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/9f6e7r/daily_question_thread_september_12_2018/e5ujuom/) and was going to monitor before I alarmed everyone... and then life got in the way and the churning world ended while I was gone. So I guess if you have a preference for which to close, answer the call or they'll pick for you. I'm guessing they close the 2nd one applied if they don't call.

This sucks. Seems like they've been saving up all the changes while they gathered data and rolled them out all at once. The paranoid in me wonders about users in the question thread as they pick the sub's brains in detail about Chase rules really being Chase moles... I gotta put the tinfoil hat away this week...

What's the most disturbing is the guy with the CSP and United card. He wasn't doing anything but trying to combine a HP (otherwise no reason to double dip those two at 3/24, so I assume that). If this kind of double dip is affected then I wonder what the 2/30 rule will turn into. Still hoping this is something different and random like our @Budzooka 's CIP. (But "do not reinstate" is ominous)

Not sure if this has been discussed but I saw that Discover now has a business card . Anyone have one or going to be applying for this card? Just wondering how are they with a "business"? Kind of easy going like Chase?

Got some unexpected hospital bills so not sure if I should go for this or a Sapphire.

It's the same as the regular Discover It, but despite being a biz card Discover apparently reports biz to personal credit. I'd pass.

So I looked at that this morning, but haven't done any further research. It affects 5/24 (although not sure how much folks are going to care about that soon ) assuming Discover is still reporting business cards to personal reports - but I was curious if this might get around the Discover 2 card limit. Is this a way to get a 3rd one? Anyone heard of that? I wouldn't mind going for the trifecta with Discover.

I just double-dipped CSR/CSP yesterday

I 'liked' your post in support, not that I enjoy your misery. :sad1: Ugh poor timing, so sorry. :(

Baby Churner here!! I got my 1/24 (CIP) last month, next move was to DD CSP/CSR in November. We organically spend about $3K a month, but I'm trying to get that down (cutting down on extraneous expenses - I'M LOOKING AT YOU, DH, AND YOUR MULTIPLE GAS STATION VISITS A DAY!), so MS would've likely come into play.

Based on advice from @SouthFayetteFan my plan for now is to continue without DD'ing. I'll hit MSR a little more quickly now, which is a little bit of a relief. I want to get the most of what's available out there, and my plans for the points aren't crazy (first goals are a trip to Disneyland, and another to take our kiddos to see snow).

I totally believe that the banks have people that monitor for things like that - so if that puts me in the tinfoil hat club, I'd like to apply for membership!

Which all this Chase news reminds me to move my CIC points over to my CSR. I know, I know, should have done it before, but I had kept them split as they are allocated to separate pools of my budget for this trip. I'll just have to make another line in the spreadsheet so I don't think my cruise balance is really that rich.

...Passing...Thanks. Didn't realize they report to personal.

Not only that they report but there's no sign up bonus so there's really no point to getting it when you could get a personal Discover with a signup bonus and the same double cash for the first year.

I only wanted it thinking it would save my */24...Thanks

Oh they do, I'm sure, but they used to just lurk and monitor. There's reps for all the cruiselines monitoring cruise critic forums, you have Starwood Lurkers over on FT from the SPG social teams, etc etc but most of those teams monitor and report, and occasionally respond if there's a customer complaint. All kind of passive. But I wouldn't be surprised now if the banks and what not actively engage... and if it were me it'd be on the sly... but that's where I'm trying not to be paranoid conspiracy freak and question the motives of every new question. Sometimes you just have to trust, even if it hurts in the end, just to avoid the tinfoil body suit. :p

But welcome to the club! It's very shiny in here, hehe.

That's what spreadsheets are for!! Don't go risking them changing the UR transfer rule - that's where my tin foil hat comes out :)

I sometimes look suspiciously at new Dis members who have only posted a couple times when they join us in this thread. :rolleyes1

Wow, big news today...still working on the CIP and AMEX SPG Bus spends. At this point hoping to get a CP with SW business and personal cards closer to the end of the year, we will see how that all pans out. Then will plan to upgrade my CSP to CSR at the 1 year anniversary. Just keep moving with the punches!!!

Oh, I wish I could have done this to take advantage of the $60 credit on $300 Marriott spend or even the $100 credit on $500 Ritz spend, but my SPG Lux did not get targeted for either offer. In other bad news, I’ve been waiting on a Saks Amex Offer to stack with my MB Plat’s $50 Saks credit, and there’s one out there but my MB Plat was not targeted. It’s like Amex knows!

Yeah, I got lucky I think that I had the Marriott offer on the Lux. Hat tip to @Judique for reminding me to check. Though, I actually have it on a few cards...oddly. But not trying to hoard too many Marriott GCs (already have enough Amazon GCs, gas GCs, grocery GCs, etc. to go through), though the 20% off is nice...

I have been waiting for the longest time for a Saks offer as well, so I can get a few skincare items...:snail: but alas, don't see one on my personal plat yet.

Just an FYI, my $450 annual fee posted yesterday. Since I'm trying to make it to $5K it didn't make a whole lot of impact on me. Just wish they would give me some more usable offers on this card. I got the $60 and $10 off $50 for Gap. So that is $70 off the $150 - now my 'free' room is at $80 and possibly falling if better offers come along. Does anyone else rationalize away their annual fees?

Me. :wave2:

The $300 credit was my rationale for the Lux; figured we will at some point get hit with resort fees, so I can live with the $450 effectively being $150 before the GE credit, the free night, and other Amex offers. Sometimes I try to rationalize and 'redirect' savings from Amex offers on other no AF cards; since the AF is waived on the SPG Biz, the $100 from Staples and Lowe's offers help to further 'offset' the AFs on the Biz Plat for example.

Maybe I shouldn't ask this "out loud" but curious on what exactly you do here. Do you buy MOs in your name every day? And from the same store? I am assuming you have to put a name on MO when you buy it, no clue here. And then deposit MOs into your bank account everyday?

they give you the MOs blank. you fill it in yourself.
when u deposit them, they require your address on it.

when i was doing MOs i hit about 4-5 walmarts.
deposit them all at once at a wells fargo.
