I love credit cards so much!

ok 1st acct to drop has a 12/1/16 date on it, does that mean we're good to go re 5/24 after the 1st,or do we wait longer? that will determine the order of application for us since we fly out on the 7th of Dec.

I always count the month after a card drops as the first month I'd want to apply. So, for me, I'd say Jan 1, 2019 would be when you are under 5/24. I've not seen a lot of DP's on when exactly Chase would consider you under 5/24. It seems to get that higher offer, you are going to be forced to apply earlier unless Chase ups the offers on these cards through public offers or referrals. I'm not expecting that at all though.

@hsmamato2 I'm confused on what your current 5/24 is and how many cards are dropping off. Can you lay that out again, please? Just want to make sure we are advising you right.

so if I already initiated pooling option, but nothing else,(emails not clicking thru) can I go back in and do the transfer?
any benefit to pooling vs transfer? like odd number of points etc?

I think you're misunderstanding.

There's no general recommendation of waiting 90 days between Amex credit card apps.

Amex has a timing limit of approving 2 credit cards in a rolling 90-day period. Credit cards include both business and personal cards. Note Amex has credit cards (mostly their co-branded cards) and charge cards (think Green, Gold, the Platinums, and their business versions). The 2/90 rule does not apply to Amex's charge cards. So in a 90-day period, you can apply for 2 credit cards, but you can also go for as many charge cards as you can meet spend on and Amex is willing to approve you for.

Amex also limits you to holding 5 open credit cards at a time. If you try to apply for a 6th, it will go pending and you'll have to close one to get it approved. Amex does not limit the number of charge cards you can hold.
Ahh got it. I got the Biz gold and green within days of each other and then the SPG biz a few weeks later. My last amex was 3/16 prior to all this back in July/Aug. So I should be ok to apply anytime but I’m also a bit nervous with people not getting sign up bonuses. I’m eyeing the Hilton biz and Aspire too. Great offers right now but I’m also still working on MSRs in x3 cards!!!

Just for a DP I was 5/24 going to 4/24 Sept 1st. I checked Credit Journey and credit Karma and I was in the clear with that card dropping off as of 9/2. Applied for CIP 9/8 and got an instant approval

Ah, it seems a major contributing factor of the welcome bonus denial pop-up is lack of ongoing spend on Amex cards after meeting MSR and getting the bonus. No way to know if you get the pop-up until you’re applying. There are DPs that one might get the pop-up when applying for one card, but no pop-up when applying for a different card. And then there are DPs of people getting the pop-up, putting some spend on their cards, trying again like a week later and getting no pop-up. So it doesn’t seem like the pop-up means you’re on some sh*tlist forever.

So an interesting thing with that Wyndham Property (Magic Village Resort)... I searched my dates for next summer that I'd need. A Thurs - Sat, 4 bedroom 2 level Villa, lowest price
  • 30k Wyndham pts; 15k pts/night
  • AAA rate on Wyndham's site - $907 total (I'm not part of their rewards program so I didn't check that)
  • UR Portal - $784 or 52,260 pts total
I'd probably consider URs for this. It would be easy to cover our portion with URs and BILs could give their share in cash... or, it's only 9k more points total in URs than 2 rack rate rooms at Pop, which is what I based the budget off of for us and ILs, so we could offer to BILs to just cover it

If you have 30k Wyndham points, I'd use that all day every day. For the type of person that finds importance in cpp, it's really tough to get "good" redemptions on Wyndham properties because of the flat 15k rate. There are a few that are very good - Magic Village, several Manhattan properties - but that also means a roadside $60/night Days Inn is also 15k points.

Tell me more. Just open the account, fund it from your credit union and they post the bonus?

Doctor of Credit has all the details. Let me know if you have specific questions.

I know I suggest UberEATs as an option to use those Plat Uber credits, but it's a terrible value. Here in SF, every restaurant -- except for promos that run now and then -- has a booking fee of $4.99, and then I'll tip my delivery driver. That's almost $10 of the $15 monthly credit used up on things that are not my food. It's terrible, but I don't ride Uber otherwise so the credits would just go to waste every month.

It's a terrible value here in DC as well, but for someone who otherwise wouldn't use Uber it's better than nothing. But yes, we never use it - things like Caviar frequently have free delivery so we just do that.

Whoa, that could be perfect for next summer with the big family trip...

Just make sure you check out the reviews. I looked into Wyndham Magic Village for a trip this past summer. Seems like there were cleaning fees and resort fees that weren't disclosed mentioned in the reviews. Not sure how if these apply for reward stays. We ended up booking a house since there are some really good deals.

I have a couple big expenses coming up and thought I was at 4/24 so I applied for the CIP on 9/9. Got the 30 day notice. I checked my credit report after and it turns out I'm actually at 5/24 because of a Banana Republic card opened 9/25/16, which I thought was supposed to be a store card only but it's actually a Visa. I'm assuming I'll be rejected for the CIP. Do you think I can reapply on 10/1? Or do I need to wait a full 30 days from 9/9? One of my big expenses is car insurance which is due 10/16 so I'm hoping to get the card before then to help meet the MSR.

I'm about to crap my pants. I'm on hold with Virgin Atlantic since they spelled Dh's name wrong. The guy told me with this kind of booking they can't make a name change.... Are you kidding me?! After all this crap and now they're saying my husband's name is going to be spelled wrong?! They better fix this or idk what I'm going to do...

Oh my gosh, I feel like I've been on a roller coaster ride with you through the whole CIP points posting and this Virgin Atlantic booking, and I was happy to hear that you got your flights...and now this. Ugh, I'm so sorry, I hope it all gets worked out. Your DH's name has to match his passport, they have to have a way to fix it!

I believe you'll have to wait the full 30 days from your current CIP app. The good news is Chase will expedite the CIP for you if you call, assuming that you can get it approved quickly.

So I've been on hold for about 25 minutes off and on. He said they have to cancel his ticket and book a new one, but there aren't any available. Now he is meeting with a supervisor and they even listened to the phone call from last night when I made the booking. If they don't fix this I have no idea what we are going to do. He tried looking for other dates to book us, but couldn't find any. I feel like this is all their fault and they are responsible for fixing it. I don't understand why it's such an issue to change one freaking letter of a person's name.

If you’re actually 5/24, your CIP application will be denied. Have you checked the automated status line?

Check Chase's automated status line by calling 1-800-432-3117, follow the prompts and press #, 3, 1, SSN. This should give you the status of your application. If it's pending at "30 days," your application is still being reviewed; "2 weeks" is still looking good, with likely approval; "7-10 days" is likely denial and you'll get a letter explaining the decision.

If it looks like you’ve been denied, wait for the letter to see for what reason. If it’s because of something like too many accounts in the past 24 months, that’s the 5/24 rule at work. It looks like the BR Visa will age past 24 months on 9/25/18. That’s in less than 2 weeks.

You have 30 days from submitting your application to seek reconsideration. If you feel confident enough to call recon, you can call Chase after 9/25 and ask that they disregard the BR Visa since it’ll be older than 24 months (and thus drop you back under 5/24). However, Chase could ask you about your business on the recon call, and I don’t know how comfortable you are about such questions.

The reconsideration line is 1-888-270-2127 and should be on any denial letter you receive.

Recon really is the best shot you have at getting the CIP approved in the next 2 weeks; and if approved, you can ask Chase to expedite the card to you so you can put your big expenses on it.

If you don’t feel comfortable calling recon, you’ll just let the denial stand and reapply 31 days after submitting your previous CIP application. You won’t be able to reapply on 10/1, because that’ll run afoul of Chase’s 0/30 rule. Wait 31 days from 9/9. Keep in mind that Chase business card applications can be approved instantly or take a few days to get a decision. Once approved, you can request the CIP be expedited, and that takes about 2 days.
