I have a couple big expenses coming up and thought I was at 4/24 so I applied for the CIP on 9/9. Got the 30 day notice. I checked my credit report after and it turns out I'm actually at 5/24 because of a Banana Republic card opened 9/25/16, which I thought was supposed to be a store card only but it's actually a Visa. I'm assuming I'll be rejected for the CIP. Do you think I can reapply on 10/1? Or do I need to wait a full 30 days from 9/9? One of my big expenses is car insurance which is due 10/16 so I'm hoping to get the card before then to help meet the MSR.
If you’re actually 5/24, your CIP application will be denied. Have you checked the automated status line?
Check Chase's automated status line by calling
1-800-432-3117, follow the prompts and press #, 3, 1, SSN. This should give you the status of your application. If it's pending at "30 days," your application is still being reviewed; "2 weeks" is still looking good, with likely approval; "7-10 days" is likely denial and you'll get a letter explaining the decision.
If it looks like you’ve been denied, wait for the letter to see for what reason. If it’s because of something like too many accounts in the past 24 months, that’s the 5/24 rule at work. It looks like the BR Visa will age past 24 months on 9/25/18. That’s in less than 2 weeks.
You have 30 days from submitting your application to seek reconsideration. If you feel confident enough to call recon, you can call Chase after 9/25 and ask that they disregard the BR Visa since it’ll be older than 24 months (and thus drop you back under 5/24). However, Chase could ask you about your business on the recon call, and I don’t know how comfortable you are about such questions.
The reconsideration line is
1-888-270-2127 and should be on any denial letter you receive.
Recon really is the best shot you have at getting the CIP approved in the next 2 weeks; and if approved, you can ask Chase to expedite the card to you so you can put your big expenses on it.
If you don’t feel comfortable calling recon, you’ll just let the denial stand and reapply 31 days after submitting your previous CIP application. You won’t be able to reapply on 10/1, because that’ll run afoul of Chase’s 0/30 rule. Wait 31 days from 9/9. Keep in mind that Chase business card applications can be approved instantly or take a few days to get a decision. Once approved, you can request the CIP be expedited, and that takes about 2 days.
