I love credit cards so much!

I just saw an advertisement for United Explorer card for a 60k sign up bonus, no annual fee for the first year! It expires Aug 16 and would be perfect for dh/p2. However, I am waiting to hear back from his application for his CIP, which still says will notify in 30 days. I can't have two applications going at once, can I? Just applied for the CIP last week.

Stick to a plan!

1. Was the ad targeting you, or your husband? The 60k United miles offer is a targeted offer; it may not be available your husband if he tries to apply.

1(a). ETA: The United Explorer card is subject to the 5/24 Rule. If you were targeted, you don't qualify and will be DENIED.

2. The offer on the United Explorer card bounces around from 40k to as high as 70k miles. A high offer like this will come around again, and if neither of you jump now, you will very likely be targeted again.

3. Your husband's CIP application is still pending. If you apply for the United Explorer card for your husband, and it's approved before the CIP, the CIP will be denied because of Chase's 0/30 rule. Because the United Explorer card is a personal card, your husband will very likely receive an approval decision immediately, then the CIP will be DENIED.

4. Because the United Explorer card is a personal card, it will take your husband to 5/24 and lock him out of all of Chase's UR-earning cards (particularly the business cards CIP, CIC, CIU, which wouldn't add to DH's */24 count) until at least January 2020.

5. The CIP has a 80k UR signup bonus, the CIC has a 50k UR signup bonus, the CIU has a 50k UR signup bonus.

6. 1 UR point can be transferred to 1 United mile in 1000 increments.

7. You're considering trading an 80k UR signup bonus on the CIP, at the very least (and the potential for 180k UR in signup bonuses across all of Chase's UR business cards, and their continuing earning power) for 60k United miles.

DON'T DO IT!

@DisneyMandC @wendow : I don't feel like my profanity is over the top but considering I have worked on Labor and Delivery for 9 years my topics of conversation usually veer towards the inappropriate. I guess most people don't see/talk about anatomy in great detail regularly. Sometimes I forget when I am around 'new people' and I frequently leave thinking "definitely should not have said that".

Ok, onto serious business. Anyone here use Award Wallet? I gave up a few years ago, I think when there was a bigger push to pay for the service, and have been just using my noodle since then. HOWEVER, at the loss of 8k of my DH's AA miles :-)sad:)I think that's no longer working. I am cheap but that 30$ seems like it might be worth it. There is something very satisfying about having my award balances congregated into one login, much like my financial accounts in Mint.

My first Citi statement closed yesterday. I logged on this morning to set up my payment and noticed that I already have 20,000 AA miles, which I knew wasn't possible because I only had a $350 statement balance. Turns out Citi already credited me the 20,000 miles I requested for the match!! I'll take it!

Thanks for the reminder to check mine! I just got the email telling me my statement just closed.

@Lain I was able to just load one of the MCGCs I got from Staples to my MasterPass account and pay a bill through Plastiq. The only error I encountered was when I forgot to register one of the cards first and the "address" didn't match on MasterPass. Once I registered it, I was able to load to MasterPass and pay.

What is the issuer of the MCGCs from Staples?

Does anyone think Southwest will raise the number of RR points needed to get the companion pass once they announce the Hawaii flights?

I'm beginning to think about the next step once we meet MSR on dh's CSP (don't worry, I'll ask zillions of questions before we do anything :thumbsup2)

Oooh, debit is high tech.
Yes, my IT BIL uses only debit. CCs are bad, autopay is bad, blah blah. He had a change of heart this summer for like 10 minutes. My sister talked him into at least using Discover instead of debit for 5 airline tix to Greece. Buyers remorse led him to realize the next day that his Capitol One Venture would be better for the “miles”. So he balanced transferred from Discover then realized no points for balance transfer and he called them to ask for points. Last I heard, they were “looking into it” for him. I never asked what happened because I doubt it was favorable but also he’d lie or exaggerate to avoid looking like he lost out.(I’ve caught him a couple times when I repeat what he told me in front of my sister and she responds ‘where did you get that idea?’) He’s always the “I got a great deal” guy.
I was like “shoulda asked me to start with” :rolleyes1

When a credit card offer is to spend $2000 in the first three months, is that literally 3 months from the date (Aug 11 to Nov 11) or 90 days or...?

Of course...never say never, right?

That said, Southwest switched to their current points setup in March 2011 and earning a Companion Pass has remained steady at 110,000 points for 7 1/2 years! I would doubt they’d want to make a negative change to the CP at the same time as the positive publicity associated with Hawaii flights being released.

Who did you end up calling to get the card activated? I've called the number on the activation paper, which has no option for MC, and I called the number on the back of the card and they were not able to help.

The offer was targeted to my husband and came up when he signed into his United account. I thought the Chase rule was 2/30 ? This would be his second application then. Would they deny him the CIP because of this United application? I guess the plan should be to keep him at 4/24.

Being pretty new here this is the hardest part for me....and I thought meeting the MSR would be...lol

Sticking to my plan on opening Chase UR cards can be hard while you all open AX cards with 100,000MR...or go for the Marriott or other cards....but I know chasing UR points is best for our travel goals

The Chase 2/30 rule is for personal cards....business cards are 1/30. Agree with @Lain don’t apply for the United card right now

Your husband is 4/24 and doesn’t have a Card dropping off until Dec 2019. At 4/24 he could potentially get a bunch more biz cards and then do a double dip with Chase to go to 6/24. I can't imagine this one United offer is worth more to you than a CIU, CIC AND 2 more personal Chase cards (1 of which could be a United card)...
