Marriott Provides Update On Existing Travel Packages - OMAAT

When our loyalty programs unify on August 18, our new Travel Package award chart here, will go into effect and members will be able to book for packages at all 6,700 of our hotels.

However, if you currently have a Travel Package Certificate that’s not yet attached to a hotel reservation, you have the following options:

  • If you know when you want to travel, make a new reservation or attach your certificate to an existing one prior to August 18, 2018.
  • If you are still trying to plan that perfect trip, you can hold onto the certificate and will be able to add it to a reservation starting September 18, 2018.
Please note that you will not be able to modify your certificate for an existing reservation or attach it to a new one between August 18 and September 18, 2018.

It sounds like floating certificates will not be converted back to points, but rather mapped somehow to the new categories.
Way to basically announce nothing Marriott. LOL!

I’m pretty sure from what I’ve read here..Chase considers personal and business credit limits vs income...that’s how I’ve been interpreting it anyway and reduced both prior to applying for a new card...with both what % are you at

I’ve read that people call chase and offer to move credit from one personal card to another to get approved...you could try that.
With both I’m at over 50%. The individual credit lines on each of my personal cards are fairly small, so there’s not much to offer to move around. My only chance would probably be to lower the limits on my business cards and then try calling.

But I think I’ve decided to just walk away from it in favor of applying for the SPG Lux. That bonus is rumored to be 125K points, plus I’ll definitely be able to use the $300 Marriott credit and Global Entry credit next year.

And the devils advocate in me sees "will be able to add it to a reservation" and thinks you can't make a new reservation with it but can attach it to an existing one, but that's stupid, right? It's just the play on words from the first sentence that specifically points out 'make a new' or 'attach it to an existing' to the second sentence where they just said 'add it to one'. I'm sure that was just a quick way to say the former. But for people who plan to actually use it I think it's good news. Hopefully they work out the mappings to everyone's liking.

What I just realized is, did they ever say they're keeping the Marriott practice of letting you book a room without the needed points available? If so that seems like an easy way to hang onto a reservation with a favorable category change, or was a former SPG property where you can't grab it now.

Applied P2 (DH) for the IHG Premier this afternoon and got instant approval. :flower1: I know it’s not the best use for a Chase slot but I think it will be a good fit for us and the fam. By the time we’re ready for more Chase cards for him he’ll have more slots opening up. That’s going to give us an 8,000 MSR over the next 3 months (IHG plus a new CIP). Hoping to make good use of Plastiq to get us through that. :stir:

Congratulations!

If it’s the best card for your family, it’s the best use of a slot.

Do you (or anyone) know when the 100,000 point sign up offer ends? I have the old IHG card so this card isn’t top priority for me, but I am interested in it with the increased bonus.

Yes, they are keeping what they call "Points Advance: Book a redemption stay even if you don't have enough points. As long as you earn or purchase the needed points at least 14 days prior to check-in, you’re good to go." I'm so glad they're keeping this.

Excellent! With so much to read I couldn't remember if I spotted it in the all new stuff or I was just wishing I did

I would transfer to KrisFlyer, and get 4 around the world business class tickets for my family. It's actually what I'm working toward now :)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I looked into it a bit and it would be great for people who are retired or can take 2-3months off during low season months. If you do this in a busy time period you may not see availability for business class seats, from what I am reading, since they book you in the Saver category, from what I understand.

This is a great use of points!

No, no one seems to know based on what I’ve read. I’ve followed their offers for a while now and it’s the best I’ve ever seen. DH has stayed ihg on business trips for years (not much lately though), and we typically use them on road trips.

@Lain - thanks for your advice last night. DH wants to wait until we get back from our trip since there really isn't time for a card to come in the mail at this point since we are leaving this weekend. I only hope will have the time to sit down and really think about our long term goals before jumping into applying for more cards, but if not, I'm thinking I'll try to pull a good AMEX offer and hope for the best. I really appreciate your help and I hope I'm not too annoying. Still working on learning about all of this and hoping that our next trip will be more on points / fewer actual dollars spent.

I'm a little bummed that the Marriott certificate won't be turned into points, but I knew that was a gamble when I redeemed my points for the package. Hopefully they will still let the certificates be extended.

Would 7 nights at a Disneyland area hotel be too many? We'd probably go to the parks 4-5 days and would have a car.

Speaking of beachfronts, DH and I booked a night at Bethany Beach at the Residence Inn Ocean Suites. The cash price was $711 a night plus taxes so used Marriott points instead to the tune of 45k since it is a Cat 9. I hope it is really nice to be that high of a cat. Anyone ever been there?

I would guess that the category is because of it being ocean front. This is where peak pricing might benefit a bit - perhaps the points will adjust to reflect the seasons as time goes on. I've never stayed but I hope that it is special for you. Enjoy Bethany! I used to eat at a place called Patsy Campbell's and it was pretty good but it's been years since I've been there. I think it's on Second, beach side. Editing - it's on Campbell Pl.

If I were staying at the GC or DLH 7 nights would not be too many for me! I LOVE those hotels and would not have a problem at all. Even staying off property I would not have a problem, as long as it was a nice hotel. There is a lot to do near DLR if you decide to go off property (beaches, Knots Berry Farm). We did 4 days at the parks and it was great. I could have done more without getting bored. The only problem I had was the heat and the crowds at the time we went.

Personally if I wasn't at a Disney hotel I think I'd prefer to split it with a couple of days near the beach. We had a trip like that planned (splitting GCH & the Hyatt Huntington beach hotel) but had to cancel it, so I can't say for certain. But to me a few days in Anaheim is enough. Of course it's just personal preference and we don't mind changing hotels.

”best use” is what works for your family. No judgement here. When I first got my CSP a few years ago, I used the bonus as statement credit to pay for part of a kitchen remodel. Best use? Not for some, but worked fine for us.

Question for all the recent applicants for the Hilton Biz card, did you get an instant card number? (I think @amalone1013 you were one of the ones on this latest promo with the waived AF, right?) Trying to guess the odds we'd get an instant number we can use for hubby's DoubleTree stay next week. That's why he was thinking of that card, with the stay coming up that'll be reimbursed and "only" needing 3k for the bonus on this offer we could swing it and not throw off other plans (I don't think). But he checks in on Sunday :p

This is why we initially didn't go for it, didn't think we'd get the card in time and we'd be banking on that instant card number... and if we didn't get it we now have to come up with all 3k to spend. I'm still not wanting to bank on the instant number (or getting the card before check out next Sat) but knowing the odds will factor in whether he decides to apply tonight. Thanks!
