been there done that. I got a fraud alert from paypal for buying an $100 itunes card @85% off. It locked my entire paypal account down. I had to call to get them to unfreeze. was also paypalgifts haha.
yeah, weird stuff for them.
I was fully verified by PayPal over a decade ago (like scanned social security card, the works, the had a money market account thing or something I believe) since then I have used the account a little bit each year for ebay and stuff. This year I actually tried putting money into the account and PayPal said I needed to be verified. I started the process online and PayPal said "you're already verified". Tried again to put money in "you need to be verified". Contacted PayPal support they said I was verified, explained again and they said to send screenshots of what was happening. After 2 days of back and forth I gave up. I'm verified but I'm not, that's PayPal's bottom line on me. Seriously weird company!

You do earn the extra 1x. I did a room charge though instead of swiping my spg card. For future references if Starriott does this again, restaurants in an SPG hotel do not get included in multipliers. they get charged separately.

Didn’t stay. Just ate at the restaurant in local Le Meridien.

Wow this is moving fast as usual. Lost internet for over a day due to the rain.

Congrats to all those with new cards this week!

What can Hyatt rewards be redeemed for?

For those bank bonus experts, I was looking at 5th3rd today. It says to open online, I need a debit card. Does anyone know if a credit card will work?

@speedyfishy or anyone else that have done Discover saving's bonuses in the past - Looking at the current Discover savings bonus but is it kind of like AmEx with lifetime language where you should see if there's a higher offer available before jumping in? Current $150/$200 has the language "Offer not valid for existing or prior Discover savings customers ..." so are they all like that? And if so has $200 been as good as we've seen? It's as high as I recall, but I have way too many numbers running through my head lately to be sure :)

And like that's not enough questions, am I missing something or is there no requirement to keep the money there a certain period of time? I can just drop 25k in, get the $200 bonus, then pull it out? It's a high amount for $200 but if I don't have to leave it there for long seems ok. (And worse case I could try the cumulative approach, I guess)

FYI "New" Reddit is very picky about formatting. When you share a link you need to format it like this: [name](website) because if you format it [name] (website) New Reddit is too stupid to know what you're doing if you put that space in-between the two it posts your full link text.
I hate new Reddit...that is all, lol!!

I am sticking with old Reddit as long as I can!

And mine was seamless at Lowes. I had loaded my daughters authorized user card to my Samsung to buy a gift card using an amex offer. Worked perfectly. Do you think it was a Sam's problem?
This is genius- occasionally we use an offer off my ILs cards that they won't use. I'm totally adding them to my Samsung Pay!
I had an interesting experience referring my husband to the CSR yesterday and hope what I learned may help any of you planning to refer someone in the next few days (and I don't think I have seen this posted here). I started by trying to use my link from Reddit and it gave me "no longer valid" message followed by showing the expected offer (but I was too nervous to use the link because I didn't want to miss out on the referral). I checked a few Reddit links from the group and got the same message. I then tried to generate a new link on the Chase website and I got two messages: "you are not eligible" and then "we are updating the refer-a-friend site". I then used the mobile app to email the link and it said it would take up to 7 days. I really want us to have the new card before my next trip, so that was frustrating. I then texted him the link and it generated a link and I could have the pasted it into a text or anywhere else.

Overall a little frustrating, but we ultimately got it to work. Of course he got the 30 day message, so now we start calling the status line!
I must have missed the update on M9nday when I referred the ILs. I didnt go to reddit because I didnt think about it, just went to the refer a friend site and it worked fine.

Are you obsessively calling the status line yet? :)
Does anyone know if purchases at a restaurant in an SPG hotel earn extra points with SPG personal?
It sure does!

$200 is the highest I saw, but when I got it it was a 20k deposit for $200. There is no requirement that it be in there for a certain amount of time, but it does earn 1.55% interest so I have actually kept it open and moved my emergency fund there.

Discover last year had AAA accounts available too, so people were opening three different accounts and getting $200 for each. I hope they bring the AAA accounts back.

I'm with you so far. I try the new one occasionally, find something new that's total crud and send them feedback on it... then switch back. But considering my entire post count in on our private group I'm not sure how much impact that has :teeth:
I'm trying to "evolve" in general to site and app updates so I don't become one of those old farts with the "back in my day...." but so far I can't do it on Reddit. I can't even imagine the new site works well on mobile, which is usually the reason for a new site; well, at least the gripes I have with it wouldn't. So for reddit I'm an old fart :)

That’s bad news/GREAT news!

Unfortunately, the 7-10 days message for Chase applications means likely denial. They’ll send you a letter with a reason and we can help you figure it out.

But fantastic news on the Amex Platinum retention offer! It sounds like you took the 50k MR, and I hope those didn’t come with a spending condition. Amex retention offers become available on your card 13 months after you’ve received the last one (probably to discourage cardmembers from calling in every year).

As many have said before - Amex was there to pick up the pieces of my shattered heart - Lol!

It serves me right as I didn’t review the best practices on the app before applying to Chase but live and learn! Ironically I do have a true LLC - my guess is I shouldn’t have applied within 30 days of getting the Amex preferred biz or I am over on my unused CL versus income or something.

As I am going to focus wholeheartedly on my beloved Amex for a bit my plan is to next apply for the 100k through Amex biz plat - will be able to make the spend as it will be just in time to book the DVC cruise and I have a bunch of biz related expenses coming up. Any concerns - traps for the unwary - before I apply for Amex plat biz? I hope not as it is a charge card - but I’m of course still a little traumatized by Chase rejection! TIA to all!!

I figured it must be a recent change since I hadn't see anything here and was pretty sure someone had mentioned referring recently (must have been you).

We haven't called yet! My husband is a very reluctant player 2 (the reason we didn't double dip on this app) and I am trying to play it cool...which should last another hour or so.

Thanks! AAA sounds interesting, hope they bring that back too, although I was just realizing I have a P2 that can always open an account later if a better offer comes up. I've got a Synchrony account that earns a littler higher, but I was thinking of keeping Discover open anyway if it's got better bank transfers. Synchrony changed how they do transfers and it takes like 3-4 business days to move money now when it was 2 before. So for a small amount I'll take the small hit on interest if I can get at it quicker. Which then reminds me to check if Discover's got ATM access on savings only, that's a nice feature on Synchrony as it's got a high limit on ATM withdrawals per day so if I needed like 1k fast I can hit the atm's at least.

I think a few people were looking at the Hilton Biz card possibly, DoC says possible statement credit on top of increased points offer with dummy booking: Hilton Honors American Express Business Card 125,000 Point Offer

Thank you! Just app'd and approved under this offer for DH. Glad I was busy this week and didn't get to app prior. Whoop! It gave me the card number to use, which was awesome, but then the screen crashed as it was loading. Boo. Oh well. At least we have another MSR to work on.

I am opening mine now. For funding options it shows link savings, link checking, or fund later. Is there any issue with linking savings and send the money that way? Didn't know if matters whether I push or pull the transaction.

@miztressuz as well. I was one of those people lol. I have three different Discover Savings opened. One is my primary and the other two were the AAA and AAII iterations when they were being offered last year. Despite having a Discover account, I still got the bonuses for the other two. They were considered different products, so it's definitely possible. Actually, for the AAII account, I transferred funds from my AAA account and still got the bonus :cool1:. If those come around again, definitely go for it, especially since there's no early termination nor any minimum monthly requirements. Can't get easier and now they've managed to keep me as a customer as well :)

Oddly, the AAII always pays slightly more (a shocking .05% more :goodvibes) than the other versions.

I'm in the initial stages of planning our first trip to Niagara Falls. Any particular hotels you recommend? Does it really make a difference (view wise) if you choose your hotel on the US side or Canada. Can you still get the full experience even if you stay at a nearby non Fallsview Hotel. Remember, first timer so any and all advice is welcome.

Also, this will help me with my point building strategy. :)

Thanks

I'm a day behind here, so a little late responding but here goes . . . The Canadian side is supposed to be nicer (prettier). We were there in 2008 before I knew anything about points/miles. We stayed in a falls view room at the Embassy Suites and LOVED it! Free lounge food in the evenings if I remember correctly. We took a day and drove up to Niagara on the Lake - beautiful! I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this trip (was a spur of the moment thing since we had some time between DH's jobs).

I'm having a productive churning week. DH's spg biz bonus should post any day now, he has a hilton biz on the way, and I opened an ally savings 'hub', and funded a discover savings for a bonus. I am going to take a break now and just focus on maximizing current cards and the hilton biz spend for awhile.

ETA: Will see how long this break lasts. o_O
