I love credit cards so much!

Target seems to have a collaboration with Disney that I knew nothing about until I swung in store yesterday. Lots of bright summer apparel, beachwear, and accessories for the beach, picnics, grilling and camping. I picked up a new swimsuit for the kiddo, some slippers for the wife and me, and a picnic blanket.

They were super quiet with this because I normally hear about stuff like this as well. The one blog I found googling seemed surprised to come upon it as well. I got the bobby pins that I wanted and looked at the rest of the stuff. A few things were already gone in the outdoor stuff. There's some super cute stuff but I resisted buying what I don't need plus I'll be at DLP a week from tomorrow and it seemed silly to buy stuff this close even if it's cheaper. Stuff from a park I've never been to or from Target, hmm... I did get one last tshirt for the trip from the boys section with Mickey on it. I was close to getting a star wars shirt but I'm not a fan and can't justify it especially when I live in tank tops at WDW not tshirts.

This is what happens when I stay on task during my grocery shopping. Disney sneaks into Target. On the bright side I should think of all the money I saved...

Those of you looking to save on movies, have you looked at moviepass?

I love our movie passes! We got them online at Costco when they were $89 near Christmas. We have totally already gotten our money’s worth. I’ve seen 10 movies and DH has seen 19 since all since January and we aren’t even half way through the year. I got the movie passes as stocking stuffer gifts for my family too. So we usually take my mom with us. She finally learned to use the app with some coaching and has gone on her own to see movies too. I’m not sure if the program will continue or how it can sustain itself but we love movie pass!

MoviePass recently made significant negative changes to its plan for new subscribers, including a four movies per month limit and no repeat viewings.

They have the unlimited back or you can get a 3/4 movie plan for $2 cheaper I think. They took away repeat viewings though. My original plan had repeat viewings and we aren’t even grandfathered in. It’s a bummer. but movies here are like $14-18 a person so we are saving money. Although, I use to only go to the movies a few times a year before moviepass now I go 2 times a week.

I have questions about the Disney Visa card. I've been trying to get one for 10 years now, but I was just finally approved. I feel accomplished. I didn't realize the regular card has a sign up bonus and applied for the premier card. Anyway, I don't plan to use it often except for our trip so that I can pay it off with saved money, but I noticed that there are discounts available for cardholders at select restaurants and stores. I know this may be a stupid question, but do you only get the discount if you use the card or can you get the perk for holding it? I'm asking because I would likely charge everything to my room and pay it with the card at the end. I didn't know if discounts would be honored if I did that.

Also, what other perks are there at the parks for being a card member? Meet and greets? This may have been answered already, I'm sorry, but this is a huge thread!

I think I’m definitely about to sign up for the Disney Visa now that they’re offering $200 instead of $50. A little nervous with my score. My Angel Card has done so much damage on it.

Kind of confusing but can I show my mom’s debit Red Card to get the 5% off then pay for the rest with my Disney Visa?

I think you are asking if you can show your mom's debit red card at Target to get the 5% off, unfortunately you cannot get the discount without paying with the red card.

In regards to the Disney Visa, do you hold a balance on the Angel Card and that is why you are worried about your score? Typically your score should improve with having a credit card open. Before you get into opening new accounts, in this thread we would recommend not opening any cards that you would hold balances on (pay balances off in full every month), otherwise you negate the benefits earned by using the cards. If you have questions ask, this thread is probably the nicest on the disboards!

Typically, Target will only allow you to get the 5% but put your payment on a different card if your Red Card is maxed out.

I have only received the discounts at the restaurants and stores if I actually paid with the Disney Visa. There is a special M&G in EP & DHS.

Yes, you have to use the card to get the discounts. There are also special Disney Visa meet and greets and discounts on their private tours. We typically put all charges onto our magic band to charge to the room except for when we can save money with the Disney Visa. Enjoy your trip!

Thank you and my Angel Card is like $400 over the max and my other card is at 90%. Interest rates have been killing me but I’m eligible for like 60% less interest rates starting my next statement on the Angel. I’m just tired of all my money going toward paying the balance when it can go toward a much needed vacation. I’m not opening up anything until I get the Angel Card at least to the maximum balance and my other card to 30% which should be in a few weeks hopefully.

You have to use either the card or the rewards redemption card to receive the discounts. Charging to the room doesn't seem to work anymore since you can't just show it to get discounts. There's not any advantage to charging it to the room and then paying with the Disney card unless you're starting to save for the next trip. We usually use a different card for room charges to get better points :)

I totally agree with what @GusGus16 said. I mean this in the nicest way possible but I would not start playing the game we play on this thread until you eradicate these balances. Many of the cards we discuss here have VERY high interest rates, but you won’t see us mentioning that because it’s just understood that the first rule of playing this game is Dont. Pay. Interest. :)

However, the good news is you can dig out of the hole. I know people who were in a similar situation and dug out and then dominated the churning game. Perhaps you should look to open a new card with a 0% interest rate period, put all new (reasonable) expenses on there, and then put all of your available cash towards paying high interest balances off.

Some may remember that a while back I booked a room at the Times Square Marriott Marquis (40,000 points for a $700 room? Yes please) for this December to take my mom on a Christmas in New York trip she’s talked about for a long time. I’m contemplating whether I should go ahead and send her the confirmation email for it tomorrow for Mother’s Day as part of her gift. It’s so far away though!! But I know she’ll be thrilled since she’s never been to NYC. What do the moms here think? Super early surprise to time it with Mother’s Day?
