I love credit cards so much!

Just a heads up. If you open a Chase checking account you get a Disney debit card that comes with the most of the same perks as the visa credit card.
That way you don’t use a valuable ?/24 slot. The downfall is you don’t get the signup bonus. But you could get the bonus for the checking account.

Some may remember that a while back I booked a room at the Times Square Marriott Marquis (40,000 points for a $700 room? Yes please) for this December to take my mom on a Christmas in New York trip she’s talked about for a long time. I’m contemplating whether I should go ahead and send her the confirmation email for it tomorrow for Mother’s Day as part of her gift. It’s so far away though!! But I know she’ll be thrilled since she’s never been to NYC. What do the moms here think? Super early surprise to time it with Mother’s Day?
It would be an awesome Mothers Day gift!

I would do it. It'd be great and then you can start talking about the trip which is part of the fun.

Those of you looking to save on movies, have you looked at moviepass?
Love it. Our family still has the unlimited. Unfortunately as mentioned they put the negative no repeated viewings rule.

However my older daughter has one and rarely uses it so if i want to see something again I just use hers. I have had mine since
last Sept and the only saw one movie twice and that was Black Panther. There really hasn't been that many great movies to see
twice let alone once lol.

**Lot of rumors going around about how they might go under*

Wonderful Mother's Day gift! I would totally do it. That'll give you and your mom the next 7 months to plan all the things she wants to do and things you two can do together.

She will love it! We stayed there 2 years ago during Christmas Break with a combo DW trip. We looked right out the window and
was across from the New Years Eve ball! The rooms have gotten very pricey. 5 years ago i surprised my mother n law with a trip
there Nov/Dec and i prepaid a year in advance for 250 night. I haven't seen that price since. NY is beautiful Christmastime.

Having a no fee MR card to hold all my points is a big reason I want this card too. I'm planning on canceling my PRG next year (my third oldest card), and who knows what I'll do with my Plat (churn another flavor if I have the slots, or keep it if I don't?). Then there's the 2x MR on everything. That'll easily replace the 2x MR on gas, groceries, and restaurants that the PRG offered (but I never use anymore because there are more rewarding cards for those categories). The BBP may replace the SPG cards after the nerf as my go to non-bonus, non-MSR everyday card. And if CIP ever stops coding 3x for Plastiq, the BBP will probably be my backup since the 2 MR helps to offset the 2.5% fee some. I guess the "catch" is the $50k calendar year cap, which might pose a real limit on actual businesses, but not so much with personal spend mixed in with other cards.

I must be really behind on new cards . Which no fee Amex card is 2 x everything? Like you im closing my PRG when renewal time comes around. I have
an old green but that has a fee so looking for something i can park points on.

Blue Business Plus :)

EDIT: Not new, it’s been around for over a year. I’ve been a pretty big advocate of the card around here. It wasn’t talked about much for awhile tho since it had no bonus for a long time.

The Blue Business Plus (BBP). There's a targeted offer out there for 20,000 MR after $5k MSR/3 months: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/amer...lus-20000-point-offer-2x-purchases-50000-cap/

I've gotten an "offer not available" message when clicking the links and logging into my Amex account(s); but I've been able to pull up the 20k offer several times by going into incognito mode first then clicking the links.

There offer through support links is 10,000 MR.

....and how much do they scrutinize your "business"?

Do I need to post this again...

Probably a few additional things worth noting:
  • It earns 2x MR on every purchase up to a $50,000 cap
  • So the "targeted" offer is 20,000 MRs for $5k MSR (as noted)
  • The support offer is 10,000 MRs for $3k MSR (for those intimidated by "large" MSRs with AMEX)
  • The real sweet spot here is in 2 player mode - since P1 once they have a card can refer P2 and you each get 10k and the lower min. spend AND don't have to try to get "targeted"
  • This is an AMEX Biz card which as we already joked...they approve everybody
  • It also has a 0% interest period...AND since it's a biz card won't affect your utilization/credit score...so that's pretty cool that you could not pay things off for 15 months if you want to float the money elsewhere (maybe earn some interest).

Yes - do it! The anticipation is part of the fun!!

Well I’m here lol. We are planning on going to Japan next May. We aren’t set on dates but are thinking either April or May would be better for crowds/weather. We would like to see both Osaka with surrounding areas and then move on to Tokyo.

I’m kind of just struggling with plane tickets (where to fly out of/in to, when to buy, how long is too long of a flight) and also with staying at Disney. I like the looks of the Hilton Tokyo bay but it would be amazing to have at least one or two nights at the miracosta. Dh and I both have good credit with no debt besides student loans. We pay off our credit cards every month on time.

I’m completely new to this idea and will take any advice if it will save us $ for our trip. We’ve never traveled out of the country before together (dh has never and I have with my parents as a child).

You’ve gotten some great advice already. I’ll add that if you are going for the CIP to do that first before the double dip if CSR and csp since business cards hVe a 0/30 day rule meaning no apps in the last 30 days.

Which card for theatre/movie/concert tickets? What about hotel rooms? Oh, I guess that's travel, so that would be Ink. Does Costco count as groceries and if not, which card is best? Which card for Amazon purchases, or does Amazon break up your spending into categories?

My cards:
AmEx SPG Business
AmEx Gold Business
AmEx Blue Cash Preferred
Chase Ink Business Preferred
Chase Sapphire Preferred

Also, when I've used the AmEx Blue Cash Preferred card in the past, I've used the cash back I've accumulated toward paying my bill. Is there a better way to use this "money?" I want to do what gets me the most, of course, but it's somehow less fun just saving money on my credit card bill vs accumulating points for travel.

Regarding Plastiq, how are the fees offset by the points earned? I don't understand it enough to do the math.

$100 bill would be $2.50 fee. You would earn 307.5 ur. Even more if you redeem your ur through the CSR or CIP.

I have questions about the Disney Visa card. I've been trying to get one for 10 years now, but I was just finally approved. I feel accomplished. I didn't realize the regular card has a sign up bonus and applied for the premier card. Anyway, I don't plan to use it often except for our trip so that I can pay it off with saved money, but I noticed that there are discounts available for cardholders at select restaurants and stores. I know this may be a stupid question, but do you only get the discount if you use the card or can you get the perk for holding it? I'm asking because I would likely charge everything to my room and pay it with the card at the end. I didn't know if discounts would be honored if I did that.

Also, what other perks are there at the parks for being a card member? Meet and greets? This may have been answered already, I'm sorry, but this is a huge thread!
You would have to use your card at the time of purchase to get the Disney visa discount.

Thanks for the write up! I forgot to add that the 10,000 MR "support" offer comes with a lower $3k/3 months MSR, which I would totally “settle” for if I couldn't get the 20,000 MR targeted offer. It's not a big signup bonus, but I think anyone building up a stash of MRs should add this card because it's no fee, has solid earning power as an everyday card, and as a biz card won't affect your 5/24 count unlike the other popular no fee option Amex EveryDay (personal) card.

Definitely plan to add this card and cannot pull up the 20k offer to save my life! I'll be using a support offer I'm thinking :D I need a place to park my MR's.

Agreed :) The ideal scenario would be P1 targeted, then refer P2.

Totally agree with the others who have said they would definitely go ahead and do the “reveal” for your mom tomorrow on Mother’s Day. What a great surprise gift and then she will get to enjoy the anticipation and planning for the trip.
