50,000 UR signup bonus - may replace CIC

Yeah, with the rumors that the CIC 50k offer will expire 5/20, and this card rumored to come out on 5/20, I think it’s a good bet the CIU will replace the CIC.

I’ve been really thinking of having my wife apply for the CIC 50k offer and trying for my 3rd Chase biz card. Looks like either CIU or CIC option would get me a 50k bonus, so maybe I’ll try for the CIU because I don’t have a 1.5x UR card.

I would get CIC if you can beforehand 5/20 BUT it may not go away. Freedom didn’t go away when CFU came out.

It also feels like Chase is rounding out a Biz lineup to match personal:
CF = CIC
CFU= CIU
CSP = CIP
CSR = c’mon Chase this would be awesome!!

LOL!

Ugh, I want to, but DH would then end up being 4/6 as CSR/CSP are more integral to my long-term plans. And I just got the CIP for myself Tuesday so obviously that won't work.

So the Disney talk has me curious about Universal. Would the reservations work the same way? Could I book my Cabana Bay stay with Universal and move it to UR?

The benefit would be if I could use an AP or other discount to book and then transfer. Is this crazy?

I would think that it would work the same way, but there might be Universal rules regarding transferring to a TA, so I would try doing a little research first. And you can always call Chase travel dept. to inquire if this is possible.

Guys - remember when we are all down about IHG sucky free night change; SW devaluation; SPG changes; 1 SW card rule; etc. etc.

Now we have increased CIC offer; new Marriott card; Marriott upgrade offers; New Chase Ink Unlimited; rumored new SW card; new SPG premium card; IHG one more free night cert

It’s all cyclical. Can’t stay down for long in this game :D

I don’t know that I’d compare the CF to CIC. Sure, both have 5x categories; but CF’s 5x categories are rotating and capped at $1,500/quarter or only $6,000/year. CIC has office supply stores and internet/cable/phone services at 5x capped at $25,000/year, not to mention 2x categories for gas and dining. The CIC is potentially a MS machine, and I could see Chase wanting to get rid of that or further nerf the card.

Yeah but to me it seems like if you have a real biz then CIP and CIC and their categories are targeted at certain types of businesses. This CIU seems to be for somebody who says those categories miss the boat with them.

I always have to remind myself that these cards aren’t directed/marketed to us. They are actually trying to attract real business with real expenses LOL!

I agree with you both. I don't think CF and CIC are really comparable products.

And if they really wanted to make sure CIC wasn't being used for MS, then they could tighten up requirements to apply for the card, such as more proof of a legitimate business. But Chase probably still makes plenty of money on these cards.

Yeah, I thought about that — that real businesses actually do a lot of legitimate spend at office supply stores and would value the 5x category, so there’s a market for Chase to continue offering the CIC. Then I thought, well, this wouldn’t be the first time that churners have ruined something for everybody else.

I just told DH I need CitiBusiness AA card. We are waiting for the CIP to arrive. I need to stick with Biz cards to get back under 5/24. He’s all :confused:
I do try to do online shopping but it’s hard to get DS new clothes without trying on. And he outgrows them like crazy.
Whenever I start comparing redemptions, his eyes glass over.

I sold some stuff on Facebook Marketplace so I had to stop off at the bank today and deposit all the cash. But I actually like my local Chase branch. They are always so nice.

I've always had good experiences at Chase since I switched there, but DHs monthly expense check is still a paper check so I cheat and send cash with him when he has to deposit it haham

My husband very rarely buys anything but if he does it's online--with no coupon code or portal of any kind. It kills my soul a tiny bit every time. I am so close to making him tell me before any purchase so I can find it cheaper but I haven't said that out loud because it makes me sound craazy.
My small consolance is I put the swagbucks extension on DHs computer, and it normally activates itself so we at least get that!

So #1 - I don't want you to risk a Chase shutdown. I will recommend some Chase cards here...but you need to determine if you're at risk.

1) You and your Player 2 could both open a Marriott Business card. This card is NOT subject to 5/24. You earn 75,000 Points for spending $3,000. You stated that you will soon have 40,000 SPG points (which becomes 120,000 Marriott points). With these cards, you would earn 78,000 Marriott points each. I'm not going to bore you with the details of how to combine those points but you could get them all into one Marriott account through some different methods and you'd have 276,000 Marriott points total. With this total you could redeem though Marriott nights & Flights for 120,000 SW RR points and you'd get a bonus 7 night cert for a cat. 1-5 property. 120,000 SW points will likely cover $1,700 - $1,800 in flights.
2) You and your Player 2 could both open a Hyatt card. This card is also NOT subject to 5/24 and the signup plus MSR would earn 42k pts. Hyatt points transfer to Southwest at 5:2.4 I believe and if you transfer 50k points you get a kicker. In theory you could transfer 8k URs (if you have them) to Hyatt to hit that 50k mark and so that signup + some URs could be worth 29k-30k Southwest points (times 2 = about 60k Southwest points worth $850ish). (I know these are rough numbers but I'm not as familiar with the Hyatt program)
3) You could earn AMEX MRs from cards like the BGR, Biz Plat, BlueBiz+, and Biz Green, and transfer to SPG then to Marriott. AMEX MRs are 3:1 to SPG and then 1:3 to Marriott so it's basically 1:1 from AMEX MRs to Marriott. Then you could revert to step 1 and make them Southwest through a Nights and Flights.

I believe those are all the ideas I can come up with :) Again I'll reiterate that getting Chase cards when you are > 5/24 (even though the cards themselves are not subject to 5/24) can be risky due to all the shutdown reports.

EDIT: I should also add that you could just take your 120,000 Marriott points (from your 40k SPG) and based on the new conversion program that I think it coming soon you can turn that into 50,000 SW points (without the whole nights and flights thing).
Thank you so much for all this detail. Definitely gives me some options. Didn’t know the Marriott bzn would not affect my 5/24. Also wondered if MR could be converted. Sounds like they can.

the CI+ still exist today... i would think they would shut that down before they take down CIC.

What I meant is Chase might stop taking applications for the CIC after 5/20, not discontinue the CIC for existing cardholders.

yeah, thats most likely whats gonna happen. Quite a roller coaster with chase this year.
An interesting point I saw on Reddit was “why would Chase offer an increased signup bonus on a card they were discontinuing.” :scratchin

Seemed like an interesting comment to me. Of course I am always mr optimism too haha :)

I'm so glad my husband applied for the CIC last month. He met the minimum spend today. He'll continue to use his CFU as he doesn't have much spend in the CIC's bonus categories, but I think that I will get a lot of use out of my "employee" card.

Also, my SW Business statement closed today and I received by 60,000 bonus points. They haven't posted to my Southwest account yet, but I think they should show up within a few days and I'll have my companion pass.

Opening day for booking the new Adventures by Disney 2019 itineraries will be on Monday for us. We will be booking the new Japan trip for next year! DH just spent the evening running around to various Best Buys purchasing Disney GCs with the Freedom and using Chase Pay for the 5x. Apparently they are now limiting the variable load Disney GC to $200 if paying with a credit card :rolleyes: We will be putting our deposit down with those Disney GCs and will spend the next year buying Disney GCs at 5x or discounted in some way to pay for this trip. We have been waiting on pins and needles for several years for ABD to come up with a Japan trip! I've already got the miles we will need for the flights too!

DH picked out the ring as I am not really picky at all (I actually only wear my ring during the work week; weekends and vacation I put it away). But the funny thing is that I effectively paid for it. He put it on his credit card with the intention to make payments. I wasn’t a churner 14 years ago but I also could not stand to have a balance on a card month to month! Plus even then I made more money than he did. That is actually pretty awesome @speedyfishy you were able to meet your minimum spend with the CIC with the ring. Only thing better is if you could have got gift cards at the office supply store for the jewelry store and got the 5 times a point. :)

I’m kinda paying for my ring too. We have shared finances for awhile and it’s coming out of our joint account. We each have a small separate amount of “fun” money every month, but the rest we share.

thankfully we will be able to pay the card off right away. They offer financing for rings, but I didn’t think it would be worth the hard pull lol. I think some places have 0% financing, I didn’t look into brilliant earths policy. We financed our mattress when we first moved in together when we were in college. We got 0% for 12 months. I was a college kid making minimum wage and bought a $1000 mattress lol. Thankfully, we paid it off in the 12 months.

I couldn’t even find a cashback portal to use. I wish I could have gotten 5x. maybe the coding will surprise me lol. I actually regret not putting it on the Amex since the $1500 left on that is harder to complete than 3k on the CIC. Lol

@speedyfishy we got engaged at Disneyland :)

DH picked my ring out himself... he got me a promise ring about a year before and had me send him some, so he had an idea for style and size. He had been doing some odd jobs for work on Saturday's at the time, so he told me he was doing that when he went ring shopping.

I stalked some of your proposal trip. It sounded like the perfect proposal and your ring is gorgeous.
