I love credit cards so much!

Congratulations on the bonus posting! As for the missing Starpoints on your tax payment, it’s been discussed here and on reddit that many (legitimate) transactions from the first week of April did not earn points. It’s an issue that Amex is aware of, but it’s supposed to take several weeks for them to fix it. If you haven’t already, you could chat with Amex so they can open a case for you.
I'll probably do that this week or next. The worst thing we did for minimum spend was buy $800 in Disney GCs at the grocery store for our DLR trip at the beginning of April, but with some other stuff so it wasn't an even number.

regarding double dip, same day, do I wait to see if approved first? I'm leery of the spend to tell the truth. I use my regular budget for spends, and right now I'm focused on discover and FR categories. This is tough call for me at the moment.
ahhhh nevermind... I didn't get it! thanks for the tip tho- I think I'll go for the 15k offer to start then....or can I/should I double dip that one with the green? which should go first if so?
So the idea of "double dipping" a biz green is that the hard pulls likely would combine (or it's AMEX and maybe no hard pull at all) :)

You definitely want to apply for the card you "want" first meaning the Everyday (or blue biz+ or whatever). Then once you're approved in a new incognito window or browser apply for a biz green through a support link. That offer should say 5,000 MRs for making your FIRST purchase. So no worries on the spend since you could spend $1 and you get the bonus :)

I know numerous people have hit that Biz Green offer and just spent a very small amount and got the points. Then leave the card open for a year and cancel when the AF posts. For somebody looking at MRs those 5k are just low hanging fruit :)

Ok... I feel like now I want to throw out my inklings of a European trip for now, and go with my backup Florida plan for this Fall... Do Disney, Discovery Cove, Sea World, Busch Gardens, maybe Aquatica, maybe Universal... see if DH can take a couple days unpaid so it's a week and a half or so.

Then focus on CC points for next year, for fancy flights for a Europe trip. And have the big trips for the year be that late in the year, plus the family cruise trip next summer. Ahhhh so many decisions...

Amex Promotion: $30 off your first Uber ride, promo code
UBERAMEX
You all think I could create a new Uber account to get the discount? I'm thinking we could use this to get from MCO to CSR in 10 days!!! or maybe for UberEats?

I think Uber can tell if the app has been downloaded before on a phone. You could probably reset factory settings on your phone, but idk if that’s worth it. Can you use a different phone? That is a good offer.

Would you suggest the same for the VISA GC since they're going to be offering the same on those as of next week.

you generally dont want to float them. From what ive been told, these card numbers are sequential so thieves can easily guess the card numbers through trial and error. That being said, Meta/Sunrise tend to be a lot safer than US Banks. Ive seen a lot more DPs on MCGC funds go bye bye than Metas. I float a meta myself every month, havent had any problems so far. *knock on wood*

TL:DR Visa okay, just dont go overboard.

Will do. I think I may even do it for 10k.

We got the card in December. Haven’t paid $85 yet.

I hope it’s this and Chase just doesn’t really hate me. I always get the worst offers lol

I got my card in December also. Had to go back and check and I did pay $85. Did you double check if you paid it? (Not doubting you, just trying to validate my own ideas, lol.)

We did the Bahamar in Feb while in Nassau on our DCL cruise and loved it. I wish I was smart enough to have realized I could have used points. I think you’re correct that you won’t have to use resort fees.
It worked out great for our family, me, DH, DS 24, DS 22 and Dd18. We loved the pools and the beach. Didn’t get to use any paddle boards as they were all being used. There is one pool with a cliff jump that we all enjoyed.
We’re planning to go back for my DDs spring break next year and stay for a few nights ....on points! Ended up getting the Hyatt card for my DH! Comes with 40K points.

It has been a couple months since I was reading about bahamar, but it seemed there was still a lot u set construction, which turned me off. Did you notice the same?

Just went to look through my transactions. I didn’t have a fee post. I got the offer for 12k spend 120k points and the annual fee was waived for the first year.

Debating if I should get SO the Barclay Aviator AA Biz card. $50,000 miles after the first purchase. $95 annual fee is not waived. I have no plan for AA miles since I have been using Southwest, but it seems like a good deal.

I called Chase and the rep wasn’t seeing any offer available for me to upgrade my Marriott card. :badpc: She did say I would still get my free night in December which was when I originally applied for the card and I won’t have to wait until May if I choose to upgrade. Is that right?

You probably won't get the night right in December. I think there is some language about 8-10 weeks for processing, lol! I'm expecting mine in January or February - applied Xmas day and did spend fairly quickly.

I won't be under 5/24 until July 1st. And, last night I got an offer for 50K on the Amex Premier Rewards card (website says 25K so I'm sure some one will chime in and say you can get this incognito all the time, lol!)

So now I'm sitting here wanting to do something and it's just not the right time - because I need to get under 5/24!!!!!

I can put my roof off for a bit - it's not critical, just planned maintenance. Common sense tells me to wait it out until July, get under 5/24, and plan a couple of Chase (1 personal, 1 business) cards and an Amex at the same time to maximize the spend.

Is your 50k MR offer for $1k or $2k MSR?

50k MR/$2k MSR on the PRG can be pulled up using incognito and other tricks.

I would hold off.

The PRG will eventually count against 5/24 when Amex gets around to reporting it. Amex can take 1-2 statements (about 1-2 months) to report a new card, so Chase could potentially not see a new card to count against you until as late as July, but why risk it?

Targeted Amex offers usually have an expiration date that’ll give you some time to put off applying. Additionally, even after the offer expires, you can call Amex, mention the offer and ask for the same terms, and there are many DPs that say Amex will honor the expired offer. So keep the mailer/email just in case!

Isn’t Barclays supposed to be really hard on “business” applications?

I think this is right. It seems like if you upgrade that resets everything. The elite nights aren’t a big deal to me since SO has Marriott gold. Which should turn into platinum and he should have that for a year??

Hopefully, they do this for you. They should because if they don’t you have no way to get any Marriott personal card.

This merger has been super confusing. It doesn’t help either that reps are clueless.

They would not reinstate my closed Marriott personal. My guess is that it has been too long. Now, I'm gonna try with DH's account, but I'm not holding my breath.

Not at all! We checked in and headed through the casino to the pools and beach. Never saw any construction. We didn’t take time to go up to the room. They gave us wristbands at checkin which identifies you as a guest.

This is how I understand it: I think your SO, as a Marriott Gold, would automatically become a Platinum in August but how long that lasts will depend on when status was achieved. If it happened from 2017 activity, it will expire end of Feb 2019. If it happened from 2018 activity, it will expire end of Feb 2020. Best case scenario here would be achieving Marriott Gold by 7/31/18 would get you Platinum until end of Feb 2020.

I have one and only one data point on that: last year when I got my free Cat 1-5 night, it was awarded to my Marriott account on the exact anniversary date of the card.

I'm going to have hubby check for the Marriott upgrade offer for giggles and kicks but even if it's 30k I keep thinking we want to keep his regular Premier. A lot will depend on the new award charts, but we've been ok using the anniversary night so far. But really it's down to the Elite night credit for spend on the card. We do actually put spend on this card and earn nights, not a lot, but for a few reasons we'd want to try to hit the new Gold level and since we don't usually spend 10 nights in a year that would help us do that.
Now with picking up new CC's with different benefits the spend will probably change as better options may be available now. I haven't run all the numbers yet. But we like the points and since we don't stay much the CC is the main generator so there will be some spend still. I've thought about going for the new card myself just for the points but I'd like to pool them all into one account. Did anyone hear anything about what transfer options will be available? I'm assuming they'll adopt Marriott's method rather than SPG's in which case I think we'd want to transfer before the merger to avoid fees. (but that won't work since I'm at 4/24 now and no Ink card yet. it was a gamble doing the double dip before a biz, so I'm out of personal cards for a bit)
Am I missing anything else? Am I crazy for thinking to keep the regular Premier?

It may be worth it for the elite nights and 3k spend bit. In your case. For me I think I should upgrade to get the less restricted free night. If only we could see the award charts for next year!!!!!!!!!!!

my interpretation is where you received the status. If your Marriott Gold is from a status match from SPG or Amex Plat, you will remain at gold.
If your Marriott Gold was earned through Marriott, then you get the new Platinum.

Alright. Thanks for that. And definitely won't go overboard. Don't want to upset Chase...
