I love credit cards so much!

If you have a legit name you should go for it!! Work up that courage, you legitimately referred somebody to the card :) That referral is worth around $200 probably!!

You should do it! The first rep told me no and I had to ask for a supervisior. The supervisor wanted the name. The worst they could do is say no.

You should definitey try! Nothing to lose!

Well, I called and was shot down. They said the links weren’t working because the referral program had already ended. Supervisor said the same thing. DH saw me ready to say "thanks anyway" and hang up and he took over. He got me 3000 points but the supervisor didn't sound happy about it. Hopefully my account isn't flagged now!

Thanks for the encouragement to go for it!

Do you mind sharing what your DH said? I may have my SO try. And by SO I mean me pretending to be him because he refuses to call.

Sure. He said something like "she did refer me to the card, I applied and was approved for it, but because she couldn't get the link to work I had to apply on my own". And then they said that I couldn't get the link to work because the referral program had ended and that's why there wasn't a link. DH kept saying things like "so what can be done here?" and "how do we solve this?" and then finally "are there any friendly customer service points that can be given?" That's when the supervisor said he could do 3000 and would put them in my account immediately.

DH is in sales and not afraid of hearing the word no, unlike me who was afraid to call in the first place!

Sounds just like me and my hubs...who is also in sales. We are opposite personalities. :lovestruc

Thanks so much! I may try. I’m the loud one in my relationship. SO hates calling for anything and is pretty passive and shy. We went to Taco Bell tonight and the person heard him order wrong and ordered us extra tacos. SO refused to say something even though it was double the amount of tacos we wanted.

Good on your husband! The Amex reps were either mistaken or, let’s just say, being “dishonest” with you. Referrals for the SPG Personal had an expiration date of 4/15/18; the SPG Biz referral program was open until yesterday 4/18/18. However, when I clicked through the SPG Biz links on DISchurners earlier this week, many came up as expired or unavailable, including mine. When I tried to regenerate a link via the website and the Amex app, both resulted in errors. If you read the original Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/8d4i1h/daily_discussion_thread_april_18_2018/dxl03pa/, several people contacted the technical team and they acknowledged it was a technical issue, not because as the reps claim that the referral program ended. When I checked what cards were eligible for referral, the SPG Biz was on there. Look! Both the SPG Biz and SPG Personal are still listed as eligible for referral: https://www.americanexpress.com/us/customer-service/faq.refer-a-friend.html

My link eventually came back to life (before the change in offer today), otherwise I would’ve called to complain too.

Well I see the Chase Freedom Unlimited has targeted some for 3x points the first year for new users.

Has anything like this been offered on this card before? Or any other differing sign up bonuses that I should hold out for?

My dh will absolutely not fiddle with rotating bonuses or try to use the correct card for categories no matter how many stickers I put on the cards. This seems like a good thing for him to have in his wallet as soon as his CIP MSR is met. (Hopefully within the week!)

Of course i just downgraded my CSP to this not even 3 months ago.:guilty:

This is probably going to be my next card. I can't apply now because I am over 5/24. Also was going to wait until after I had the Discover It for a year. Right now I am putting most of my spend on that since they are matching the cash back bonus for the first year. Oh well.

Since there is no sign up bonus you would have to spend $10,000 in the first year to break even with the normal 15,000 UR sign up bonus. But if you were planning to spend more than than it would definitely be worth it.

Good point. I was wondering about that but didn't sit down to do the math myself. Now I feel better.
Edit: Although if I were to put DS's tuition on here it would easily surpass $10,000. Oh well. Not under 5/24 so I can't get it anyway.

Having paid a bunch of tuition bills, the only school that didn't charge fees that outweighed the benefits of using a credit card was in the UK.
