I love credit cards so much!

Welcome!

Here is info on using UR for AA...
https://thepointsguy.com/2015/05/use-chase-for-aa/
I'm not great at any airline except SW, so I will let someone else help with the details.

Double dipping would be good. You would get 100k UR and then refer your DH for the same cards for another 100k + 10k referral (you) + 10k referral(you) + 10k AU points (CSPx2).
You'd get a ton of UR points!!!

ETA: You could actually each to a CIP as well. Those are 80k UR points...so x2 is 160k and 20k for referral as well!

PS- Don't forget to join dischurners on reddit and use support links for the first 2 cards. :)
Ugh - not an easy 1:1 transfer I was wishing .

Thanks I am already in the Dischurner reddit group!

Wow, wish I’d seen that deal. Not to resell but my sister does dog rescue/fostering. Right now she has 5 six week old pups.

A large box of training pads - extra large size and 100 in the box is 14.99 at Costco, regular price. It's their Kirkland brand.

Ok. This increased CIC offer is kind of messing with my overall strategy as well. Would love your advice on where to go next with DH and in what time frame.

DH's current situation:
9/2016 - AU on my CSR, although he was removed yesterday via SM (not sure if this makes him 1/24 or 0/24)
2/2018 - CSP (2/24 or 1/24, 1/12, 1/6, 1/3) [And I know I should have had him do the CSP/CSR double dip, but I wasn't sure he would get approved at all as a SAHD so I decided to start slow; definite SMH when he got instant approval that I didn't try for the double dip then. But it is definitely my plan to have him double dip once we either downgrade or cancel his CSP and he becomes eligible for another sapphire bonus down the road.]
3/2018 - CIP (2/24 or 1/24, 2/12, 2/6, 2/3)

I was planning to either wait a few months and refer him with my CF or wait until October and have him double dip SW cards (assuming bonuses are high enough) to get the CP good for 2019/2020 (and then start toggling with me on SW CPs). But UR are definitely king for me (trying to swing at least business class seats for 4 of us to Africa in 2019 and likely Japan in 2020), so that increased CIC bonus is calling to me. (SouthFayetteFan, I also saw your analysis on the CF, but that assumes maxing out the bonus, and DH's CF would make 2 CFs for us, because I have one. Plus, I'd like to start utilizing the bonus categories on the CIC before 2/2019, when I can downgrade his CIP.) The question is how soon do folks think it would be safe for him to apply (either for the CIC or the CF)? I know he needs to be 0/30 to apply for another Chase biz card, so the earliest he could apply for the CIC would be toward the end of April. But that would put him at 2/24 or 1/24, 3/12, 3/6 and 3/3. Is that 3/3 risky? If so, how long should I wait before having him apply? And then what does that do for a potential double dip of the SW cards later in the year (although I'm willing to sacrifice the CP for lots of UR)?

Quick correction: My analysis didn't assume maxing out the category. It assumed that all $500 towards the MSR would be in the bonus category :) (It was adding 2,500 URs NOT 7,500 URs which is what you'd get if you maxed it out).

Still interested in feedback, though, as to what "safe" timing would be to have DH apply for CIC, assuming the 50k sign-up bonus stays around. Given how useful the CIC bonus categories are, I'm thinking I'd rather have this one sooner than later. And also, what that means for "safe" timing for a SW double dip later in the year. I want to make sure I'm spacing the apps out so as not to risk a Chase shutdown for DH.

Welcome!!
2/24 is still a great place to start from :) I would start with the Chase Biz cards. Don't have a business? Yes, yes you do. Most of us have "businesses", often people didn't realize it before. Do you rent out property? Have you sold something on ebay? Craigslist? Etsy? Do you do some consulting or something? Dig deep and you might find a biz you didn't know you had! Once you've found one it's time to get a business credit card. Since URs are your goal right now start with the CIP, 4K spend for 80K UR then go for your double dip. I would love to say CIP then CIC then CSR/CSP but 4 Chase cards in one year could be pushing it too much, personally I just don't know on that. CIP then CSR/CSP will leave you at 4/24 so you'll still be able to grab some Amex biz cards maybe before hitting up Chase for more cards in year 2 of your churning! And if you have a player 2 there are referrals available for CIP (20K), CSR (10K) and CSP (10K), they do nothing different than use your link for the application!

AA.... AA miles are most easily accumulated by Citi AA cards and Barclaycard's AA card but they will impact your x/24 status. Citi also has a Biz AA card so you could hit that without impacting your x/24 status for Chase cards. Barclaycard has a AA Biz card but there is very little data on it so I cannot recommend that, idk what it might do to your x/24 status, I think that one has conflicting reports. What's your AA plan? Is it to used AA miles to book the fare and are you looking at AA saver awards? If so I'd seriously consider another route! AA generally has horrible saver award availability. Finding availability on domestic flights for one person has been quite challenging for me, can't imagine doing it for 4 internationally!
Hummm maybe I should change my goals to get our Disney vacations as cheap as possible using the rewards points and just plan on paying cash for our trips to Brazil.

What is the pin code American express is asking for for receiving DHs card?

Hi Everyone,

I am looking for some input in which card I should get. I am currently 2/24 with Capital One Quick Silver Aug 2017 and Chase Slate Dec 2017 ( got both before really understanding this churning game):sad2: I also have an old (8+ years) BA cash rewards card.

So I am thinking to try and go for the double dip CSP and CSR. I should have no problem in meeting the MRS since I have a daycare bill of over 2K a month + all my organic spending.

My goal is to fly to Brazil for free or almost free since we now need to pay for 4 RT tickets! My home airport is BOS

I did some researching and it does not seem that UR transfer to AA. Is that correct?

You guys are awesome!

Correct. UR doesn't transfer to AA directly. However, UR does transfer to BA which is an airline partner for AA since both are part of the One World airline alliance. You can actually book your AA flights directly on BA's website for Brazil. That route is searchable on BA. Here is a screenshot.

Whenever you want to search for a flight that can be booked with BA but isn't searchable on BA then you do the search on AA for saver award flights. Find the saver award flight, write down the info and call BA to book it.

The last time the spg biz was 35k, was the spend higher? I feel like it was 10k spend maybe??

And speaking of the spg cards going away, my other thought is to get the personal for myself. With dh's referral, that would be 32.5k points for only 3k spend. Then there is no stress at all over meeting the spend. It increases me to 6/24 but I have a couple cards falling off later this year and my plan was to focus on my dh's card more this year anyway since he'll be 2/24 by June. So, would it make sense to get the personal for me, since the personal may go away first?

DH and I both have the SPG personal; signed up last spring when 35k offer. It has been a card I don't regret either one of us getting and I think you should consider it but maybe hold off and see if it goes up. One advantage of the personal is that you can put whatever on it and it won't be as high as a spend. It seems like if it does go away Amex would give some notice. (Just my opinion though).

Sorry to keep replying to myself but I'm thinking this through out loud now haha... CFU has a similar value proposition but without the 5% category it isn't as lucrative:

P1 applies, earn 18,250 URs (15,000 + 2,500 AU + 750 base) then refer P2, earn 28,250 URs (15,000 + 2,500 AU + 750 base + 10,000 refer). 46,500 combined URs for spending $1,000...pair it with a CSR and you earned $697.50 back on $1,000 in spend

One thing that I think for me puts the CFU over the FU is that the 1.5 is more lucrative on everyday spending. I could get DH the Freedom, but I doubt he would max out the categories. On the other hand, he buys a lot of different things that don't take Amex where the FU is perfect because it does not fit any other Chase bonus category.

I just wish Chase would announce the Freedom categories for the whole year. It would be a huge help in strategy.

AND my one other random thought with all this talk of Chase and being maxed out and/or being shut down came from knowledge I gained from my inquiry call on qualifying for the CIP. Chase there made a point to tell me they were not inclined to give me any more credit as I was already at their limit. They did give me the CIP but it was only for $5000 limit. So in thinking about what cards to get do keep in mind that the amount of credit Chase will give you (even if you are a good customer with a high credit rating) is not infinite. Try to prioritize the cards. It seems like when you are early on with Chase they start out high and then it gradually dwindles down.

BA is British Airways???
So I can do this for domestic AA flights too? I have been booking AA through the UR portal, which is fine because I am EARNING points that way. But booking direct with points would be less points used up.

So if I understand your question - here's an idea on the process:
  • Refer your husband via your CF - you basically can earn $450 for $500
  • Then PC your CF to CFU (so that you don't have a "CF" anymore
  • (this assumes that it's been 24 months since you earned the bonus on your CF)
  • Have husband refer you to CF - you can earn the $450 for $500
  • PC your CFU back to a CF - now you have 3 CFs (yay 5% categories) and you earned $900 back on $1,000
Make sense? :)

Hey. Whoa. Hold the phone. DH and I both have a CF. Are you saying I can PC to the CFU, have husband refer me back? Then could I repeat the process in reverse for him? You people are always thinking of new games. I love it!

Quick Clarification:
So we've done some "Chase shutdown" analysis today. That is different from "5/24" analysis in one way:
  • 5/24 analysis will be only cards reporting to your personal credit report (so basically this excludes most biz cards).
  • Chase Shutdown analysis you would include all cards reporting to your personal credit report PLUS any Chase business cards since Chase absolutely knows you got them :) And that's when we look at things as */24, */12, */6, */3

Hope that clarification helps if anybody was confused.

Wait, so when you guys talk about x/12, etc, you're including cards from other issuers than Chase? I thought as far as shutdowns, they only cared about Chase cards?

Yes, All issuers. Many of the Chase Shutdown reports are people who have gotten a dozen cards from other issuers then tried for a Chase card.

The two issues are
  • Applying too fast with Chase
  • Applying for too many cards and then putting Chase’s eyes on your account by applying for a non-5/24 Card (ie Disney, Hyatt, etc)

Did you earn a bonus on the CF in the past 24 months? If no then you could do this. Also make sure this warrants use of a 5/24 slot for both of you :)

Boy, they are really making it difficult, aren't they?

Next card...
Small risk = May
Very safe = June in my opinion.

Seems like a fun way to get some extra UR's for some of us slower churners. My dh will be 2/24 in June. I want to keep room for him to go for the CP at the end of this year but I could double-dip both SW at 4/24. I have nothing really to use those other */24 spots for right now. I'd like for us to get the hotel-branded cards at the same time so our anniv certificates come at the same time and I'm not able to go for those cards yet. So, why not play this game you threw out a little? I think I want to get the CIC first but maybe after that.
