I love credit cards so much!

Yeah I kind of thought so. I have no idea what he was thinking applying for the Cash card. Between us we've got at least 4 cashback cards already. He was supposed to figure out how to keep his MR points but with no fees... he seems to have missed part of that conversation.... including the part where I said we needed to plan this out so wait on doing anything; this is info gathering only. So now we have a card which is not a bad card to have, but a total waste of a 5/24 slot and possibly delays going for a useful card. Sigh...
Ok 2 options to keep your MRs active...

1) Apply for the Biz Green card. It offers 5,000 MRs after first purchase...annual fee is waived for first year so that buys you 12 months to figure out another way to continue to keep them active. Also this is a charge card so it won't count against the AMEX 4 card (or 5 card) limit. ALSO it's a Biz card so doesn't hurt 5/24 status.
2) Apply for the Blue Business+ Card. There is a way to get 20k MRs for $3k spend PLUS this card earns 2x MRs on every dollar spent and there is no annual fee so it allows you to keep MRs available. It's a business card so it WILL NOT count against 5/24. This is a credit card so it will count against your 4 card (or 5 card) limit with AMEX. EVERYBODY MAY WANT TO READ THIS NEXT PART: I recently had an exchange on r/churning with somebody who said the Blue Business+ 20k MRs for $3k spend offer was still available. Here's how you can apply for that offer (maybe):
  • You call AMEX at 1-866-690-6736. This is their number for targeted offers.
  • They will ask you for an RSVP code - tell them a friend gave you the number as they had recently applied for the blue biz + 20k for $3k offer and you were wondering if they could check and see if that offer is available to you. You may need to repeat yourself/be firm.
  • They should take your name, address, a little other info and then look up what offers are available to you
  • You may also find other offers for Biz Platinum or Biz Gold Rewards (BGR) available as well
  • IF you find an offer you like (I wanted the 20k MR for $3k on the Biz Blue+) you can apply over the phone
  • The application likely may go pending and if it does you have to wait 24-48 hours to check your status online - it won't appear immediately.
Hope this tip helps you and the larger biz card offers line helps others too!

Checking in from the Palazzo and I think we just found our new place to stay in Vegas. I used 60,000ihg points from the increased sign up bonus on the ihg card that came out last year. Our suite is 750 sq ft which is half the size of our house.

This has to be one of my best redemptions to date as rates are over $300 a night. This place is total luxury and I’m so happy to see where points can take me. We were upgraded to strip view because of my Platinum status with ihg by virtue of having the ihg credit card.

Good to know!! Thanks so much. I need to call DVC to see if I can switch my method of payment right now, and then I'll be all over that (edit: or Office Depot GC 5x with my CI)! When are you out? I'm about to go in, LOL.

I’m not out toward the end of October, but at least I’m in the same year now, lol. The good news is that if I get a new Chase card in Oct., I’m out again in January.

Ok so if dh applies for the cip how do I transfer his ur to my account?

You have the CSR, CSP, and CIP, right? Don’t forget to have DH use your referral for the CIP! When he gets his own CIP, he should be able to “Combine Points” by entering your CSR’s account number and last name, since I’m guessing you two share an address (in the same household).

You may get an error if you already have someone else (even yourself) in your household or another card set to combine points into your CSR. You should be able to get around this by setting DH’s CIP to transfer to your CSP or CIP instead, then transferring the points from your CSP or CIP to your CSR.

The next time we go to vegas we are totally staying there on points. I've been drooling over those rooms for years now but we've had other trips we wanted to take before heading back there. I don't think they'll top the Mandalay Bay suite we had- it was as big as our house, on the 62 or 63 floor, we were even with the hotel name and could see everywhere out the windows :) But Palazzo looks darn close and I can't wait. So jealous right now, have fun! :)

Just noticed my SW Plus and SW Premier Business are coming up on a year already. I have the CP through the EoY, I can still cancel them both though correct?

Yes. You can cancel both SW cards and you’ll maintain your CP and your points. Note that points expire after 24 months pass without earning activity.

Thank you @Lain for the explanation regarding using gift cards. Like @brownhaired_girl I feel like I have known that but it helped so much to have it spelled out! Why I am using my SPG Amex at Petco when I could be using a gift card bought for 5 times UR!

Which brings me to my question: husband has CIP. I want to get one and (fingers crossed can get approved for one next month when under 5/24). Me getting the CIP makes more sense since it is the bigger bonus plus I can use DH’s referral. BUT practically speaking the Chase Ink Cash with the 5 times rewards at office supply stores would be a lot better. So any thoughts on the likelihood of DH getting approved for the Chase Ink Cash when he already has the CIP? If you don’t count the fact that he got the CIP last May and a business Amex this fall he is 4/24. Only Chase cards are the CIP, Reserve, and Disney. (Other two are AU’s...my bad).

There is not a ton of spend going onto his CIP right now, but I don’t mind keeping it as I like the phone insurance etc. Also, another bad part with any of his cards is that since his identity was stolen last year (and it came to light with Chase when the thief got into his account, changed our address, and ordered a phone), so I worry that they might not approve the other business card since they will want an explanation of why he wants it.

Hopefully that all makes some sense. Sorry for rambling. I dread having him/us talk to Chase again about a new card but I also hate his potential earning points going to waste. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Ok. I think we’ve figured out our day-to-day spending strategy for this year. It’ll involve a PC from a slate to a CFU, a new CF, and a PC from AmEx BC to BCP. Slate and BC are both DH’s with me as an AU, so we should be able to get to PC’d cards in both names without causing trouble with my 5/24 slot opening up later this year. But what about the CSP he got yesterday and the CF? I need to spend on both of those, since I do a lot of our shopping. Go ahead and get AU cards for both? CF but not CSP (I’ll be trying to double CSP and CSR later this year)?

Definitely don't add yourself as AU...do the middle name trick or pets name or have your husband ask for a replacement card because the current one isn't swiping properly. No reason to complicate your 5/24 status with AU cards. :)

Also - I take it you opted not to go for the double dip?

I still need to get the AU for my CFU which I'll do with my middle name but I really want to get one for my dog. I don't think they'd give me one for Dude last name though :) But it would be nice if he could pay his own vet bills haha.

Thanks! And no double dip. I tried hard, too.

Nice to see you around :goodvibes You are fine to cancel. All points and CP are attached to your RR account and not the CC.
Thanks :wave2:! I was pretty sure that was the case but since I have been laying low for so long I thought I better check. I just looked up one of your posts to see which AMEX card you use for the 6% CB at grocery stores. I have the AMEX Plat 100k MR offer which did not really interest me until I read Lain's very compelling post in DISchurners. I checked the AMEX prequal site and there is an offer for BCP also, spend $1K get $200 statement credit. I would love to sit around in indecisiveness until Sept and then I would be 4/24 again but I have a bunch of spend coming up that I feel entitled to points from someone :smooth:. Texas eh, if that's a play for running up points trust me the relo is not worth it ;)

FYI: there appear to be folks on DISchurners with links for BCP that offer $250 for $1,000 spend.

Yes, as @SouthFayetteFan mentioned, there are referral links for $250 credit once you spend 1k on the BCP. I am a huge fan of that card but it only works for some. You really need to spend at least $3,200 a year at a grocery store to make it worth it (which can include GC's). If the Amex plat works better, go for that! You need to do what works best for you and getting your fam to the vacations you have planned. Is it 1-year to Aulani now??

Texas...sigh, it's my home state and where all my family lives. Nothing set in stone though. We are open!

Hi guys, I need some sophomore advice. I opened the SW plus and premiere cards last June to earn the CP and am ready to close them well before the AF's hit. Do I have to call Chase to close these accounts? I also have the CSP which I want to pc to the CFU. I assume I have to call as well?
