Ok, so filling this out...I can't believe we had multiple rental properties for 9 years and I never used that to get a biz card. Of course we sold the last one last spring. ha!

so for selling stuff online do I put retail...automotive, food, gas, clothes, health, home goods. Or the other retail: books, hobbies, sports, general non store?

I mostly sell home decor, kid clothes and items, toys, etc

I did the other retail but I’m also not sure it matters too much. I was so nervous filling out that app!!

Oh points absolutely are taken back. I never disputed that. And see my earlier comment where I basically say this whole conversation matters little unless in regards to SW card purchases in the 4th quarter. Haha.
True, I'll have to pay attention end of this year as I plan on trying for CP. I'm not sure I'll even apply until Mid November, extra couple months won't matter if I'm not planning travel in Jan-Feb anyway.

OK I DID IT! Whoop! So got the 30 day message. Will see...score is 815, high income, biz income said $3k and 8 years in business...online sale of preowned merchandise or something like that. Fingers crossed!

ETA: I did a referral from dischurners. I will make sure to switch it up to new people each time, as everyone is so helpful!!!! Lain was the lucky winner today. :)

There's a number of frustrating 4th qtr CP stories. Obviously returns being a major source of them. Fraud is another - people have had their bonus points post early due to fraudulent charges. The really frustrating part of these stories is Chase gave you the points so they don't see what the problem is with them posting early. Most people aren't calling saying "take my points back please and give them to me in January again" lol.

I got the 30-day message too and had the card 9 days later. My issue was probably that I had five other chase cards.

Also checkout @Lain story with the iPhones LOL.

Seriously! Is it /r/$h*ttychurning worthy?

Apple has a very generous return policy, and this was during the holidays so the return period was extended. I wasn't trying to abuse the system, but if I'm going to spend $1200 on a phone it'd better be perfect, and I'm going to try to maximize my rewards whenever I can. I think I went through 6 iPhone Xs before Apple finally blocked me from making any more iPhone X purchases online for exceeding their customer limits. I went through the Marriott portal on the last three online orders, and points for all orders posted instantly but haven't been clawed back despite returns/cancelation. I ended up exchanging my last online order in store for what was happily my final, perfect iPhone X.

I'm not advocating this, but conceivably anyone interested in 7000+ free Marriott points could just shop Apple through the Marriott portal, buy and return the iPhone X 6x before deciding it's just not for you.

No joke SPG points are harder to earn and Hilton gives out points like candy.

I was shopping around for hotels for spring break, including looking at cash prices and how many points I might be able to earn on my stay. Then that scratch my head kind of feeling when I think I might earn ~4500 SPG for four nights (3x SPG Gold + 2x on SPG Biz). Our last four nights paid stay at a nearby Hilton netted us something like ~25,000 (I know, inflated) HH points after signing up for several promotions. These points systems will take some getting used to.

you should be able to gain more SPG points based on what promotions you get. I saw some people targetted for a free night stay on the first visit, 2nd night free on the 2nd. Im currently using their stay at a hotel, get 1000 points. I think next quarter is 2x. https://spgpromos.com/ see what u get.

Ok, I am excited! So should I do CIP today, wait for hopefully approval over next few days...then do the SPG Amex later this week? Or do both today but CIP first?

i dont think it matters since one card is a business card. SPG amex, i know it takes them over a month or 2 to actually post to your report, so that might help if your applying for another personal card.

Based on the SFF official valuations - SPG points are over 4 times more valuable than Hilton.

Hey if TPG can have official valuations can't I? LOL!

I have 4 at the moment.

Awww, thank you! Fingers crossed for you, even though I'm sure you'll be fine!

The CIP is my favorite and highest earning UR card because I pay a lot of our monthly expenses that might not otherwise accept credit cards through Plastiq, which is still coding what seems like all transactions paid with the CIP for 3x UR. Plastiq may have finally got around to blocking all mortgage payments using Visa (including the CIP), but we pay rent, student loans, utilities, our daughter's preschool tuition with the CIP. Plastiq charges a 2.5% transaction fee, but you're earning 3x UR back so you're actually making a little money if you cash out, or those 3x points could be worth 4.5x towards travel when you transfer them to a CSR. The CIP earns 3x UR on our monthly cell phone bills too, and comes with cell phone insurance if you pay your cell phone bills with the card.

Also, a lot of online gift card apps/platforms that sell eGift cards for a variety of retailers code for 3x UR when paying with the CIP, including Gyft, Swych, and CashStar (which runs the Best Buy purchase $150 GC/get $15 promo code and Kroger discounted Best Buy GC deals, which we turn into Disney Gift Cards).

Like I mentioned, a lot of members have referrals for the Amex SPG Biz so please spread the love!

Ok great!

I think the recommendation is that @disneymagicgirl apply for the Amex SPG Business card because that won't report to her personal credit report and won't appear on Chase's 5/24 radar, but will give her another good bonus to put spend towards.

The Amex SPG personal card has a public offer for 25k SPG points, too; but you could try to trigger a 30k SPG points signup offer by using the incognito mode trick. However, the SPG personal card will appear to your credit report and count towards 5/24, although it typically takes Amex two monthly billing cycles to report it to the credit bureaus and for that new card to appear on your credit report (and Chase's radar).

HMMNN, I did get that 30k offer on the personal to come up about a week ago but I didn't apply. Wonder if I should do that instead. I am 3/24 with one falling off in June to go 2/24. Anyways, after the CIP and SPG (whichever one) I am gonna be in a holding pattern for awhile so I can do SW for a CP in late summer unless something else comes up that I can't resist between now and then. So really I can do the personal spg now without messing up any plans I think.

I always find the answer to be do both! When debating between 2 cards in churning just get 3 hahaha!

This would really be a "you" decision. If SPG personal is worth a 5/24 slot then go for it. Business gets 3k less points (I'm including the spend in there) and you spend $2k more so there are definitely differences there. However the business doesn't mess with your 5/24 at all.

Hopefully you'll get approved for the CIP quick, DH applied on Friday night and was approved Tuesday, called that day to have it expedited since we were traveling on Thursday. FedEx delivered it Wednesday and even our FedEx driver commented how much he loved the card.

Why is preschool 3x UR thru plastique...codes as travel or something?

I'm not sure what Plastiq is using as its merchant category code for the CIP. Plastiq transactions code generally as "trvl, ship, adv, telecom" on the CIP, which are the categories of spend that earn 3x UR. Whatever it is, it's the only Chase card that earns 3x on pretty much every kind of payment through Plastiq.

Earlier last year, the CSR and CIP earned 3x UR on mortgage and rent payments because they were coding as lodging ("travel"), but that died in the summer. Visa then issued new guidelines to Plastiq to not accept Visa cards for mortgage payments, and Plastiq's blacklisted mortgage companies from receiving payments and has been cramping down on mortgage payments that were still getting through.

The CIP earns 3x UR on a lot of different categories of spend (data points seem to say no mortgages and some trouble with car payments), but it's not coding as travel because it doesn't work the same on the CSP or CSR.

I'd also add that the CIP earns 3x UR on shipping via USPS, UPS (and probably FedEx), but not if you go through PayPal shipping for USPS and UPS, which is unfortunate because PayPal offers discounted shipping.

The CIP also earns 3x UR on eBay seller's fees if you set the CIP as the credit card on file to pay monthly invoices.

Hey if TPG can have official valuations can't I? LOL!

And, there can be a lot of value fluctuations in actually using SPG points. In summer at the Westin Hilton Head you are going to now pay 16000 points per night for a basic $350 room. Go over to Savannah and you will get the Westin Savannah for 10K points, a basic $350 room. Or you can get the new Perry Lane (luxury collection) for 12K points - getting closer to $400 a night here. I'm talking June or July. When the 'season' is over, the points are still the same but the price goes way down. When I am spending my SPG points, I'm looking for $30 - $40 value per 1000 points. Otherwise I consider paying cash, which helps generate more points. If I am cash poor or my trip is costing a lot of cash, then I may 'overpay' with points. Or I may use the points because I just plain like the hotel or some of the amenities or its convenience to other attractions.

If I add a night to my July 4th trip this year I may have to commute to Disney's Hilton Head from Savannah, lol, versus from the Westin Hilton Head where I've stayed a few nights every year for the last 20 years.

HMMNN, I did get that 30k offer on the personal to come up about a week ago but I didn't apply. Wonder if I should do that instead.

My thought on that is if you plan to apply for both the SPG personal and business cards, you may want to apply for the personal 30k offer first if you can pull it up again. Amex is kind of known to target high offers at potential customers who don't have their cards, and it can be hard(er) to get the highest offers on some Amex cards when you're already a cardmember. I'd hate for the 30k offer on the personal card to disappear after you sign up for the SPG Biz.
